I think...
that for many leagues it is simply a factor that the coaches want to show and play games. Heck - sometimes it is a struggle to get all the coaches there so you can have a successful play date.
I am also guessing that many don't want fool around with everything that is needed to film and possibly miss some game playing time to broadcast - because people are needed to do it and they can't play games while doing it. Live video for the championship game or play-offs I believe is more likely and feasible to accomplish. |
Artlax, you are...
right on the money with this. But this is what I am talking about, from a championship/big game perspective. Your generic league games can be too demanding to do this.
No one is getting paid to do this, and the ones who even think of using their expertise in this manner to be compensated a nominal fee are often crticized (like myself). People never take into account the time, the cost of equipment, and the research to do these things. I know some of us do only look at this as just a "game", yet we want the respect of it being a legitimate hobby too???? That baffles me. That puzzles my mind??? In order to have "Big Game" events, you do need the trial and error games to chart what works and what does not work. That's where league games do come in handy. They help you play through the kinks. If you don't do that, even the championship game on Internet TV will not come off "clean". When you go to places that are unknown (like the Stearns Center), you have no idea of the technological capability of a place. Y'all are still figuring out what can and can't be done at the ToyWiz. Once you figure that out, then it's things like production. I have seen well done productions of miniature football right here in the DFW area, but that came with numerous trial and error-type games. So even in a championship setting, you've got to know everything will work. There can not be any guessing games, hunches, or unknowns. That's just been my experience. That is what concerns me about the CBSMF going to Vegas. I know they should have good technology out there but you have to have the right people and equipment in place. Greg and I will deal with that in time. I do know the Shootout will be outstanding because I know the lay-of-the-land and I have the equipment right here. I could do the Shootout Championship from my home or the hotel we will have it at. My equipment becomes portable at that point and I know guys like a Barry Stephenson, Michael Robertson, and a few others can give a excellent analysis and color feed. Reg |

Cost of all that ? Pretty nothing. Old computers can be found in your basement or relatives/friends, or for cheap on ebay or stores for used hardware. You can even buy a new very small atom based dual core +videocard +sound embedded motherboard (just need to add a HD, keyboard, screen, and mouse) for about 150USD. The camera cost ? about 30USD (19.99euros). It's not the perfect setup, but it's affordable. I'll post some tests I made offline to show you the result. |
"Shared Costs"
If all Regions agree to purchase equipment collectively, transporting from venue to venue. We must begin to look into solving these problems collectively, costs just like participation can be dealt with as a group.;) Each Region would sign for it when recieved, allowing for accountability, used for the weekend then signed over to the next tourny. 7 Regions $100 per Region, divided by its members, assume 10 members per Region, 10 bucks per member, $700 for equipment. Just an example!:D

Reg, Is there a way to put together a couple of "suitcases" that could be reserved by a league that would contain the necessary equipment that would essentially be a plug and play type video broadcast system. It would have cameras and instructions to operate including placement of the cameras, login info to a "MFCA" account. The MFCA could have an open online video account for any league to use to broadcast so that all games are stored in one area categorized under their league heading.
All the wiring and so forth would be setup so that they would only have to pull the cameras out, place them, plug it in, logon and broadcast. The MFCA could potentially purchase this equipment and make it available to MFCA members for the cost of shipping. Just an idea....I have no idea if it is even remotely feasible. |
I, for one, would love to broadcast our league games, especially our championship games.

cheapest way to internet tv
You can have a look here :
http://www.miniaturefootball.com/for...ad.php?t=19636 I'm currently broadcasting my dog sleeping on my bed. I'm using a 30usd camera, with native 640x480 30fps resolution and speed. THe secret/key I do is to use powerfull external tools (VLC) instead of using the web based tools most of the live streaming websites gives us. I'm pretty sure it exists easiest and perhaps as good solutions on other systems (mac and windows) but for me (linux) it's the best way I found. |
"Possibilities"
What would it take to put a cam on a cap or visor, enabling the viewer "COACH VISION"! them close ups would be price less!:D

Right Now, I am...
in the process of creating something similar to the rulebook I did for the Texas Shootout. It is the "idiot-proofed" version of plug and play for broadcasting games.
I was riding home today and just thought to contact Joe Greco and asked if he would do the writeup on his camera. He has a Canon camera. I am not sure what Mozeek got or Ken Allen or Greg Hardmon or Treks1. I will ask all of them to write the instructions from their camera brand perspective. There are several watching sites. Brian Healey alerted me to one last week (I can not think of the name of it). I know Dimitri uses Justin.tv. We use USTREAM so now, the "FREE" TV medium is there. What I will do is once I finish the document, I will make it available for any and everyone who wants to try to broadcast games. I will ask the people aforementioned to put their stamp on it with their instructions so that we can have the setup and everything else to show games. Then, if anyone else wants to add additional "How to's" on that, the document can be a "living" document used at any time. I hope people will take advantage of such a resource at their disposal. My wife Rose, is now reminding me of the due dates on my book and I miust put that first and foremost so if anyone who wants to take the lead on this, whether someone who knows this stuff technically, or an MF vendor or company, please be my guest!!!
