Today, I did the black "pin stripping" to add a little contrast between the parts of the fig, and paint the socks and shoes. Here's a little sample of what I 've done !

Tommorow I'll make daylight pics, less saturated.

Hi,

I almost completed the figures. I made eyes, footballs, chinstraps, helmet fixations, pants stripes, and jersey basic stripes.

I still need to finish the shoulder numbers and stripes, helmet logos and stripes.

Here's a little pic of the current progress !

Hi,

I did the shoulder stripes, and start helmet detailling...Now I have to make the white stripe on helmets, logos, and shoulder numbers...and the painting will be done :D

I'm particulary happy with skin tones (black and white). :o

I believe tomorrow, my first customized O squad will be finished.

Awesome squad

Love the muscles!!!!!!!!!! Bruce #88 doesn't have any, but they look sweet!

Do you have Josh Morgan #84? He is the starting WR opposite #15 Crabtree.

Keep it up, just PM me when you need my address for S&H purposes!!!!

Thank you ! thmbsp$

Yes, my Niners are muscled, they trained in an old soviet olympic doctor I believe :rtfl:

The goal was to achieve a "comic/heroclix" look for that team. Using FF.net figures, the big muscles look just came naturally. When you "finish" (in a manner of speaking) the sculpting of a already made figure, the figure "drives" your tools and paste...difficult to explain. If I started modelling on a fab5 base for example, I certainly went to another style of sculpting.

Not for the moment. My goal is to complete before 20january a 22 atheltes steelers team and Niners team. I wanted to offer a Steelers team for Christmas to my brother, but I just don't have enough time, so I'll offer him the team for his birthday.

After I'll complete that 2 "core" teams, I'll make "skill options" for it, time to time, adding new roster players with a dedicated base.

I'm actually finishing the figures. I varnished the bodies, once it will be dry I'll paint the helmet logos and varnish them too. Next pics soon ;)

Remember I'm a pro modeller and miniature sculptor...so perhaps one day I'll make something for the MF little world ;)

Final steps

Hi,

I completed the paint and varnish of the figures. Now, I need to make a last coat of varnish on helmets, then I'll glue the facemasks...IMHO glueing facemasks is the best part of the job, because the figure reveals itself, and it also means that the work is finished ! :D

Here the last WIP picture before the facemask pose.

It's done, I glued the facemasks ! Now they look like real football players

Sorry for the pics quality, I'll do better ones tomorrow (and finish the bases too).

Just love them!!!!!!!!!!!

You did a helluva job on those 49ers....almost brings a tear to my eye.

Like Mark says, you have a great deal of patience. You have taken your time with every step of the process.

The warhammer guys really can paint their butts off!!!!!

Dozens of hours

THank you a lot !

I don't know how much time I spent on this squad, but certainly dozens of hours (30hours maybe just for that 6 figures ? Maybe 100hours to complete the O squad? I really don't know) :D

For me that is the pleasure of miniatures and modelling : finally achieve the result you had in your mind when you first opened the bag of figs. It's the same for scenery, perhaps even more spectacular : you think about a scene, and finally can see and touch what you imagined !

the french guy 12-20-2009 02:42 PM

preview of the complete O squad

Here two little pics I made to see the overall result for my O squad ! ltsplbll

I can't wait to play with that team ltsplbll

I would probably put these babies in a display case, never to be touch by human hands again. :rtfl::rtfl::rtfl:

Great job Dmitri. thmbsp$

the french guy 12-20-2009 02:55 PM

they will fight !

My brother goes to Paris for holidays, I hope we'll be able to play before he goes !

Otherwise, we'll play (ironman format since we doesn't not have enough prepared figs and bases to play the "standard" 22players team) on Christmas day (he come to family lunch, so we'll certainly make a game after...my first Christmas MF game !). It will be a massacre, since I'll play that 4g team against his 3 grams Packers demo ironman team :rtfl:

In january, we'll fight with better weapons (each one with detailed 4g 22 players teams and new proline bases). ;)

After that (completing the 49ers and steelers teams), I've got PLENTY (I mean...really PLENTY) of projects for MF... ;)

the french guy 12-21-2009 01:03 PM

la suite !

Hi,

Just a little pic to show you the last steps before completing the squad : the modelling flock stage.

I glue on top of the base some modelling flock with some PVA glue. As an "old school" figs modeller, I don't glue flock on side of the base : there is no really a reason for that...I just like it that way :D

The technic is simple : put PVA glue, spread some modelling flock on it (in wargaming you can glue some sand...but since I use FF.net figures heavily re-sculpted, the weight is already important (perhaps even too much !).

Once it's dry, You can paint it or better : brush it with some diluted PVA glue to fix it well (since the bases will destroy the flock if you manipulate your figs too often).

Reginald Rutledge 12-21-2009 01:54 PM

Your work looks outstanding Dimitri

Dimitri,

No doubt some of the best work I have ever seen and I appreciate you doing them on FF.Net figures. Keep doing what you do and stay inspired in the customizing.

It is so easy to start off strong and get burned out, trust me! Keep throwing out positive vibes with what you do. Sometimes, you know I am up after hours and I want to get you on my TV station but I don't like bothering people too much after hours.

Reg

Don't worry, I'll keep the motivation, I've got plenty of new ideas and projects for MF ! ;)

No doubt, the best looking squad I have ever seen on these pages. Fantastic work, thank you.

the french guy 12-22-2009 06:43 PM

thank you ! If I was a rich man, I would be able to custom and paint all the day, and make a new team each week !

It's fun and refreshing, after years of painting orks and barbarians, and more recently making scenery for model racing cars... :D

WEIRDWOLF 12-22-2009 07:24 PM

Yes, those are unmatched! Absolutely beautiful.

The "visor" (reminds me Geordi La Forge, in star trek next gen tv show :D ) is sculpted in green stuff, then painted in black, and varnished with gloss acrylic varnish to give it the look of a sun/light protection wear.

Hi,

Here 's some pics of the based squad. Finally, I recycled my demo team bases setup to save money :o

Anyway, since a MF team is complete only with bases, here's some pics !

the french guy 01-11-2010 04:10 PM

tweaking

Hi,

tonight I tested my new team on the old bases I "recycled". The linemen works well, as always, and bring an extra amount of strenght due to the weight.

The skill positions needed to be completly retweaked with the new balance and weight of the figs.

Here some vids I made. I need to work on the running backs...

Note : I have to change the used motors I installed first. One of them is really noisy, so I unplugged it. On the vids, the board is running with only one motor, at 40% voltage. More voltage make the board too bumpy with only one motor, and not really faster. The single motor is not consistant too...So I have to fix that (I've got new spare motors) before I can tweak again.

Second wide receiver : yellow miggle rookie base. The defect is that I often have to retweak the front prongs to make it run straight.

First wide receiver : buzzball speed diamond base. Very consistant base. As soon as possible, I will buy new ones, for sure.

Strenght test with center figs. Standard fab5 fig on a Revells strong base VS custom ff.net fig on Revells strong base. The weight adds strenght, logically.
