Greatest QB of all time
I am a lifelong Packer fan, but Favre doesn't make my top 5. I have him 6 or 7.
To me, Brett Favre is the "Arnold Palmer" of the NFL. Fans love him, relate to him, and like his hard charging style. Jack Nicklaus was a better golfer and made better decisions than Arnie. Jack's meticulous style helped him win more majors (the key tournaments) but was not more beloved than Arnie. Personally, Favre's performance in big games was sporatic at best. The best players have their biggest games (Jordan, Bird, Magic, Tiger, etc) on the grandest stages. That wasn't Favre. 1. Joe Montana (calm and cool...no interceptions in 4 Super Bowls) 2. Tom Brady (incredibly calm, throws an absolutely beautiful football) 3. Johnny Unitas (I have limited footage, but he revolutionized the position) 4. John Elway (the complete package) 5. Peyton Manning (definitely one of the smartest QB's ever...a bit too jumpy at times and the big game knock) 6-10...Otto Graham, Favre, Marino, Starr, Staubach |
1) Dan Marino.....an awesome QB playing with no "D" or running game to back
him up. Even his receivers tended to be 2nd tier. Clayton and Duper were good, but I doubt they would have been as stellar without Dan Marino. 2) Joe Montana.....intangibles off the chart. Probably one of the last great field generals. Incredible production despite not having all the God-given physical gifts. 3) Johnny Unitas....the greatest field general ever....and man could he throw! 4) John Elway....awesome physical skills and drive.....clutch performer. 5) Brett Favre...again, awesome physical skills/gifts...will to win off the charts! |
Favre most over-rated
How can you be the best of all-time when you've thrown the most interceptions of all-time? Think of how many ridiculous picks he threw in ridiculous situations. He's not even in the top 15 as far as I'm concerned. So many of us seem to forget how great Staubach, Fouts, Bradshaw, etc. were. Let those QB's of the 70's throw the ball as much as these guys today, and Favre would be nowhere near Staubach.
My top 5 Staubach Montana Marino Fouts Bradshaw |
when you play 17 years and take chances, your going to have alot of interceptions. one of the the reasons is, in the eras before him, they didnt throw that much in the first place.
the fact is he leads in basically every catagory because of time in the game and his great escape-ability. the Packers have won more games than any other team under his arm= at least that stat was true as far as I know within the last three years. he leads all QBs in all catagories in life time stats. that makes him no less than top 5 for at least a 100 year window |
