Very nice work ............. as usual !
I really like the numbers you use. I have 75 sheets of old numbers , I may try your technique sometimes.

the french guy 10-06-2010 04:59 AM

thank you !

it gives a nice old school hand painted aspect, less sharp than decals. But it's more work than simple decals thmbsp$

figure almost completed

Hi,

today I finished the sculpting on the figure. Added chest details, and stuff like that.

Tonight after work I'll sand the defects, fix the left shoulder and sculpt the face (the easy way with xacto knife), and it will be done. Here's some pics of it !

Here's some pics of the figure ready to paint...Actually I started to paint it :D

When I do a new team (or new squad) I like to start with one sample figure, especially when I test new technics or ideas.

Painting

I'm happy to paint again ! THese last weeks I tweaked, I sculpted, I customized...But I didn't paint. I didn't remember it was so much fun thmbsp$

I started the basic colors. I'm happy with the sculpting, the effect I wanted works. The light nicely shapes the muscles. With the bright colors of the away Steelers jersey, the figure looks a little more slim. Super heroic without being caricatural. Search for Hampton, Steelers nose tackle pics : I'm not so far from the reality :D (6-1, 325 lbs)

Here's some night pics :

Hi,

I completed my defense squad. Now I "just" have to add sculpted details and paint them :D

It's a 3-4 defense, according to Steelers depth chart. Later I'll add options, as a 4th down lineman for example.

The linemen will be like the nose tackle : HUGE. The real athletes are all around 6.5 feet and 300lbs  I tried to keep them not too much on front of base, to put them on mixed fast/stenght bases. I recently discovered that a good speed on line can be a good defensive choice, to mess up the more static O line and put pressure on the QB. Of course, strenght will be also needed, and prioritary, to avoid offense power runs and easy dives.

the linebackers has been treated in 2 diferent ways : 2 central LB, rushing positions, and 2 "static" LB, waiting pose, with the best balance I found, to keep them the most versatile I could.

the safeties are more "artistic", which is perhaps not a very clever choice for gaming but...I paid attention to balance and stance. The figures gravity center is low and very centered. On the free safety, I compensated the dynamic pose with an extra low gravity center. Well, mostly 100% theorical, of course. :D

Cornerbacks : once again, two diferent choices. Right CB is straight on his 2 feet, very stable and balanced. The pure pass interceptor (I play passing simulation) with the correct base under it.

Left corner back will be focused on proximity tackling. One foot pose, but balanced. With the correct base, I should obtain quite good reliability on short range.

Some of the choices are finally more "artistic" than competitive. But the sqaud is composed in the final idea of making extra options (at least 1 by position) to cover all my needs.

On my personal rulesets, I'll allow 11 players iron man teams, 22players teams, and on the "advanced ruleset", 44 players (22players max on each O and D), one unique base by athlete (it will not be possible to change the bases during a game)

to be continued...

edit : I forgot to mention the figures used for that squad : fab5, haiti repro, proline, ff.net and maybe (can't remember) a pair of buzzball legs somewhere :D

I really like these figs

Can I get some of these figures? Hit me on a PM let's talk about it?

the french guy 10-24-2010 06:31 PM

Sorry, not for sale, they are my personal teams figures :D

I tried to trade some custom figures (for new bases) before, without success, by the way, on MFCA trading section.

You know...Finally I'm happy with that. Now my personal projects can move on.

Tonight I'm working on my steelers d squad, for example thmbsp$

I'll just have to spend some dollars for bases like anyone else :D

CowboyMike 10-25-2010 07:53 PM

Just curious how much do those figures weigh? I'm still trying to get better with the green stuff. Im trying to get better at sculpting before it gets dry on me. good work buddy!!

CowboyMike

the french guy 10-26-2010 04:15 AM

Weight depands. My biggest linemen on TTC are about 4.15-4.2grams. (it's why I'm thinking about making another weight measurement in my ruleset, to accept these big athletes also).

All the other ones are about 3grams with rookie, a little more with ttc. All the weights are for finished figures (modelling flock, paint, facemask, etc...).

To save some weight, if you work with ff.net figures you can remove the plateform and replace it with a bit of plasticard, or an old thing miggle/tudor plateform. You can also drill holes in the ff.net plateform (Franny j boy do that for his biggest linemen).

All that to say that with minimal efforts, you can keep your heavily customized figures under the 4.0gs without too much trouble ;)

Using a mix between proline figure and ff.net head, I'm currently building a "waiting" LB pose.

Here's the first pics. Tommorow I'll make the shoulder pads.

I'm currently building on the other squad figure. I plan to finish the squad before the week end ;)

I finished the figure before I go to work.

Tight armor and jersey modern look. I like the today style of football players. Even the linemen wear light weight (sort of...sorry I'm not a specialist to tell you the right names) armors

I remember a decade before, the tight/light armors were reserved for safe/fast positions, now they seems to all wear the same, from WRs to tuff contact positions, correct me if I'm wrong !

new "fiber" style muscles

3 Attachment(s)
Hi,

here's the last additions for today, (LB and DE), I tried a new sculpting technic, adding a sort of "fiber" texture on the muscles, you know, like comic books super heroes or extreme body builders with 0% fat, just muscles and skin.

Here's the pics, you can see the effect especially on the last pic. WIth advanced painting effects, it should be pretty cool at the end.

defensive ends and linebackers

Hi,

This morning I finished the arms sculpting for the DEs and LBs.

Tonight I'll make the CBs and safety. They will be less muscled.

Then, tommorow, I'll make chest and shoulder details.

Here 's some pics of the "power athletes" of that defense squad thmbsp$

Hi,

Today coming back from work, I finished the chest and bellies. Just need to add legs protections and muscles, and the figures will be complete.

On the first pics, you can see the defensive ends and nose tackle. Last pics, my 4 linebackers.

to be continued...

At the same time I'm searching for UFL info ;) :D , I'm working on the legs of my athletes.

On the pic : SS, CB, LB, CB thmbsp$

speaking of UFL, I'm seriously thing about them for my solitaire league...I was thinking of arena football first, but now I'm thinking of UFL and France Elite 1, since these leagues are small -5 (6 next year) teams in UFL, 8 in France Elite 1)...

I'm even thinking of abandonning my Giants team to start a new thing in place of it...Since I already have 2 (almost) complete NFL teams (steelers and 49ers), I can already have nfl games (great for demo play, because everybody knows at least the Niners here in France, because of the big USA sports fashion during 80's-90's, with pay-tv/cable democratisation, etc...), add options guys to these 2 teams sometimes, so a third team will not bring so much more fun...The last thing is that I built my 49ers and steelers teams with the same style...My starting giants team is a way diferent (btw I'll probably mix the figs of that team with other ones to make a more mixed style...)

It's why I want to try new things...

edit : seeing the pics I need to fix that clown shoes on my right CB :rtfl:

the french guy 11-09-2010 05:42 AM

Almost completed

3 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Last days I added some legs details, towel, etc...

Need to add some arms muscles and shoulders on a few athletes (CBs and safeties), and the team will be ready to done.

I'm particularly happy with the left CB pose.

With the simple color scheme of the steelers, it should be quite fast to complete.

I'll undercoat them in white, not in grey, since the figures will be almost only bright colors (white jersey, yellow pants). It will make the job faster since I will have less painting coats to do.

By the way, the more I see that humongous nose tackle, with his low stance and static pose, the more I think it will be a center assassin :rtfl:

to be continued...
