The boiled base era

I was thinking is the boiled base era gone from MF???

Electric Coach 02-13-2009 07:51 PM

Base boiling may be a lost art by others. It's still alive with me. Base boiling is not acceptable in leagues around the hobby.

Thank you Maurice!!! You got it brother! Boiled bases are frowned upon and surrounded by untruths and ignorance, it is a lost art, I love that phrase and choice of words.

The evil warlocks of the MF world meet on the 13th of every month that ends with the letter "R" and in the late, dark hours of the night they stand guard around their bubbling cauldron. The head of the local coven brings the pot to a boil and laughs hysterically while dumping in a bag of rookie bases!!!

This event has been witnessed by very few and those that have seen it cringe in disgust, their jaws agape, eyes locked wide open, their hair turns gray. They stagger off, not quite sure what they just saw, but they have the very nagging, real fear that something as evil and vile as the Devil himself is about to be unleashed on the unsuspecting MF community.

Oh dear God, help us all!

Shades of Fantasy war games

Hey you should write up mystical stories and instructions,
for games like Hero Quest and Kingdom.
Love it!

I agree Shabby, boiling is evil! Imagine, someone modifying a base to make it perform better!!!! Next thing you know, people will be altering the shape, length, and direction of the prongs!!!! When will it end???? :hmmmmm:

boiled base

is the boiled base era gone from MF? hell yes ,that was a f-up era and if you still play what way then your still on fantasy island.

this is just my opinion so don't get madd just play the way you want.

Base Boiling Isn't Bad

I have played with boils and unweighted tweaked bases. I have found that a boiled base is no worse than a weighted base. If both coaches agree on the style, it's all ok. The problem is when a coach uses a boiled based team against a coach who is only using tweaked bases. I have some tweaks that can match up against my boils, but for the most part boiled bases win over tweaked bases. Again, there is nothing wrong with any type of base. It's all about base movement.

Well put Jim, that is the key, play the way you want. The LAEFL allows boiled bases, but as of right now I have none and may not run them, but I do approve of them and the option exists.

Boiled bases will not win over a well tweaked standard base, I do it and I see it done every weekend out here.

Jim, I would like to hear just exactly why you think that way though. You have been around long enough and are an accomplished tweaker, lets hear some real reasoning from you, I think that would be good input.

Great points fellas (Electric Coach, Ned, Shabby J)...

In my not so humble opinion...the only reason boiled bases are evil is because the trend in EF is...if you can't beat it, ban it. If Vince Peatros was not able to make 1 boiled bases as strong as two of the average tweaker/boiler base stacked behind one another in strength tests. If not for that, boiling would not be a problem. I have been told that some who claim to be the best tweakers have been pushed down the field by Vince's boiled and unboiled teams. I have even heard stories about persons who claim to be the best strength tweaker...having requested Vince tweaked bases. I like how they do it out WEST...RUN WITH WHAT U BRUNG. No limit on custom figures, no limit on boat bases, boiled bases allowed, 9, going on 10 straight full EF/MF seasons complete. Call em sorry base boiling, amateurish, no skilled chumps if you want, but guess what...THE PLAY, & FINISH.ppls$

boiled bases

One of the problems was that everyone couldnt master that art and some of the stuff was questionable at best what type of stuff do u put in the water baby oil or cisco what brand of oil!!Like steroids it mattered what stuff u used!! Tweaking is a more natural form base fixing!!You right on the cant beat it ban it!!!

tweeking is the key

a boil base or a pro line. i have have played against both, won and lost. i have seen ttc's with prongs attached from a different base. so what is the difference. if you put a man and base together and the weigh is scale for your league, have fun playing the game.
a boil base weighs no more than a ttc base.
just my one cent.

Boiling Talk

As I said earlier, some of my tweaked bases can compete against my boiled bases. Overall, my boils win over my tweaks. I understand why base boiling is not accepted among leagues around the hobby. The main reason is one can never tell what a boiled base is going to do. The boiling process makes a batch of bases unpredictable. Some of the bases get the right balance of water and oils. Those bases can perform among tweaks. Those bases that absorb more oil than water tend to be those bases that push everything off of the table.

Since water and oil really don’t blend, the mixture has places in it where a base can get more or less of water and oil. The size of the pot, oil used, the balance of oil and water, number of bases, boiling temperature, time spent boiling, and texture of the bases along with other factors will have an affect on how the base will respond and perform after it has been boiled.

In regards to oil used, I use a mineral and baby oil mixture. That’s all I would ever use. I can’t imagine using anything else. I wouldn’t try using motor oil or brake fluid. That just seems to be too harsh and unnecessary. If you can’t apply it to your skin like baby oil or put it in your food like mineral oil don’t boil it. I wouldn’t use cooking oil. Yeah, let’s try base frying.
