My 10
These are coaches I have already played...I might have one a game or two, but if they were between me, and getting to the big game, I would rather play someone else!
Brian Healey Lomax Jim Davis Tom Johnson Mike Robertson Mike Turner Big Keith Raiderman Geno ************************* Now my want to play list Vince Oldschool & DC Any coach from the GLEFL! Reg Beenutt RD (Raidernation) Barry S. There are some other really good coaches that aren't on this list!!! Joel P, Those guys from the DSEFL, LAEFL & DFW, Tom Ruesnik, Matt Culp, and many more. I know you can only put so many names on there tho. I feel honored to be on it myself but I know I don't scare anyone out there. My vote for this poll is Brian Healey. We have played several games, and he has beaten me more games than any other coach. Mostly NEFL games, but he beat me twice in the BAM. I think I may be 3-7 against him or something like that. Good post Hulk!!! the F.O.T.H. PS Maybe someone can put their own poll of coaches they are familar with! Let's keep this thing going! |
The toughest for me
1. Simmie Lassiter-Just one of the best big game coaches I know
2. Jim Davis-My speed just doesn't get the best of his power. 3. Adrian Baxter-Total discredit to anyone who doesn't mention him. 4. Keith Chalmers-On his game can beat anyone. 5. Greg Hardmon-If he traveled more he'd be right there with Adrian 6. Norbert Revels-Beat him one time, by a hair. 7. Raiderman-Tough at Buzzball 8. Vince Peatros-Saw him srimmage with boils, but what precision. Universal. 9. Kelvin Lomax-Playing for the love of the hobby now, can't hold it against him though 10. Brian Nut-Should have won Miggle that year. Note: I have HEARD of other great coaches and their are some arguably that are better. I am only going by who I have played or saw play. I scrimmaged one of the coaches long ago but he quit when others started watching what was going on. The funniest part was he grabbed his team, then stated, "That's it, you've seen enough", and walked off like he was doing me a favor. lffng$ I had to remind myself that I scored three times on the guy and he didn't get a first down .Hilarious! :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: |
OK
OK guys were am I at....lol

A whole lot.
Jim why you gotta be startin' stuff!:fghttt: Here's my top 10 and there's no order;
1. Adrian Baxter (I'm 1 out of 'bout 100 against him) 2. Jim Davis (So much Power) 3. Norbert Revels(Power and Speed) 4. Reg Rutledge(Players that do Everything) 5. Mike Robertson(Adaptability) 6 Vince Peatros (All of the above) 7. Anthony Burgess( 3x Champ) 8. Don Smith (Professor to DC) 9. DC Smith (Grasshopper beats the Master #8) 10. Simmie Lassiter (4 app. in GLEFL champ) There's several more but these are the top 10. |
I wouldn't want to play against anyone who is better than me, which pretty much includes the entire MFCA, with possibly the exception of Weirdwolf, who I've been told can't even beat himself. Then again, from what I've heard from his wife, he beats himself on a daily basis so I guess that throws that theory out the window. :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

WOW...
Many factors come into play when looking at a list like this. A combination of adaptability, skill set, strategy and popularity are factors that I used to choose my top ten and this is my order from top to bottom...
Please note that there are many great coaches across the country but style of play is a huge factor in determining the skill set of a coach. Strategy is so important and that is a key element that varies based on style of play. So if you are not on my list, it is not because I don't consider you a great coach it is because I consider these coaches the top 10 that could be successfull under any style. 1.) Vince Peatros - I've never seen him play but the very sound of his name seems to make people quiver. They all say the same things..."The greatest Coach ever and he knows it"! 2.) Adrian Baxter - Plays everywhere and wins everywhere. Has the cerebral ability to plau under any rules set foreign or otherwise and win! Great reputation of character and ability to adapt to change. Wins in the most hostile of enviroments. 3.) Norbert Revels - If he knew the rules all over the country as well as he knows his league rules, he would be at the top of this list and no one would be able to knock him down. 4.) Reginald Rutledge - He is who he is therefore, "it is what it is"! 5.) Don Smith - I haven't seen him play but he's on most people's top 10 list and here nothing but great things on this coach. I'd like to see him come out of retirement and win playing the many formats that are around now. 6.) Tom Johnson - The best coach that not very many people know about. This guy is flying waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy under the radar. Great Coach! 7.) D.C. Smith - Same boat as I am, the EFL world needs to see him win in other styles of play 8.) Big Keith Chalmers - I've seen him play everywhere and he always seem to end up in some league or tournament's championship game. He's just a winner! 9.) Greg Hardmon - His name says it all...Greg is hard man! Awesome coach. If he traveled Kornheisser and Wilbon would have a field day debating him and Adrian. 10.) Don Hudson - The most accurate passer in the entire country. No one knows of this DFW superstar but under other formats he'd shine like a star. Hopefully he'll get out and spread his wings. |
HEY JIM ARE YOU FORGETTING SOME ONE?
YOU KNOW WHO MY NUMBER ONE COACH IS THAT I WOULD NEVER LIKE TO FACE...HOW ABOUT 4 TIME MIGGLE CHAMPION RON BELL...HE DID NOT EVEN MAKE THE LIST!
WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? :D   :dohdh: |
Quote:
Very well put Mike, especially that number 1. |
matt your right about RON BELL i just forgot that's my bad, and he should be in the top 10

Article idea?
There are many of us old but new guys getting back into the hobby who don't know many of these coaches.
I think this would make for a great multi-part article series for The Tweak. I think that an interview format delving into their style of play, years in the hobby, greatest moments, favorite team to play with, favorite figures, bases and techniques they have developed, etc... Along with a chart showing leagues/wins/losses/ and achievements. Of course include a picture or two of the coach. |
NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND

You are soooo right!
A lot depends on how serious you are about winning. Many coaches, present company included, play the game at a high level but many are totally dedicated to winning. It doesn't mean anyone is less or more, some just have a basic limit as to how far they can go.
Great coaches win anywhere, at any level. Maybe not the title, but they always seem to advance to the latter stages. Even in tournaments. Most tournaments are designed for my style of play but I can't remember one time where I didn't show up on game day or the night before and build my team. Now, on the other hand you have people months ahead of time with their team totally prepared amongst other things, gone in 60 seconds, and at what price? I commend their commitment but it comes, in most cases, with something I not yet prepared to do, personal sacrifice. Because a coach puts their family, career, or civic responsibilities ahead of electric football doesn't make someone better, it makes them more prepared. I am reminded too often of some of the horror stories associated with what is looked upon as dedication when it is actually sacrifice. It's a hobby, and maybe when I retire in a year or so then I can have some me time to see what my own competitve potential is, if I'm not traveling with one of my sons or whatever. The best coaches can win when they are not the strongest/fastest. To be brutally honest the people that sticks out, to me, is Mr. Simmie Lassiter/Adrian Baxter/Kelvin Lomax/Greg Harmon. Now I think it's another story when it comes to power. True, Jim has power, but behind it is a strategy. If you think we don't figure out ways to stop our power coaches, we do. Then strategy has to come into play. Being one dimensional for various reasons, Jim still finds ways to run even though everyone knows he's playing with one arm tied behind his back. For that reason, Jim is the best power coach to me because even when you come at him there is still a coach underneath. One note: No power coach has ever won our league but on the flipside, if Jim could pass only god knows how many he would have. The best all-around coach to me is clearly Greg Hardman. Now Greg may be Mike Robertson in one league, Tom Johnson in another, DC Smith in his area, Salty, Raiderman, Adrian Baxter and so on in your league so keep in mind all of our views are limited by who we know. Why would anyone consider someone they never have seen play? Trust, but verify. Just my opinion, no offense. |

My Top 10 That I've Played or Watched
Jimmy D...not even to get my name on the consideration list??? I'm not saying I'm top 10, but not even on the ballot? I believe I'm still waiting for my first loss to someone from Michigan (2-0 vs Norbert and 1-0 vs Ken Allen). I'm sure it will come soon...but give a brother from another mother some luv (thx K-Lo and CorEy):D :D :D Just for that, I'm playing Ohio State at Buzzfest!!!
Here is the top 10 that I have seen play. If I haven't seen you play or played you, then no disrespect...our paths just haven't crossed yet. 1) Adrian Baxter (unbelievable passer, cerebral, fast swarming defense) 2) Raiderman (can elevate his game against the best) 3) Norbert Revels (Can beat you in multiple ways) 4) Big Keith (love my matches with him...gotta always think hard) 5) K-Lo (one of the best running coaches and "matchup" coaches) 6) Don Smith (The Don! School is in session when you play him) 7) Greg Hardamon (I've only seen you play once, but was impressed) 8) Ron Bell (played him once at Miggle...great passer and interior rush) 9) DC Smith (The Kid...great player and even nicer guy) 10) Jim Davis/Tom Johnson (Both very tough matchups!) I haven't seen many/any of the TX or LA guys play and only a handful of the Michigan guys play...so I don't feel qualified to insert them though I'm sure there are many who have top 10 games. Just one guy's opinion! |
TOM
I don't know what to say but i just had a brain fart and i left off a lot of very good coaches that should be on the list but only 32 could make it and i just plan forgot about you and some more coaches and that's my bad. so forgive me |
Jimmy D
No problem my friend. At some point we probably need to resurrect the "tournament ranking system" that we had mid-decade. It was nice because it helped get some more guys out to events (or at least so I heard) and also it helps provide an objective way of ranking. It still has holes in it as league play doesn't factor in (because of the wide variety of leagues, # of participants, etc) but it helps create some healthy banter amongst coaches.
I just got too busy with work and family to continue on with tournament organizing and rankings. Much love and appreciation for those that still do! Tom PS: I'm still playing Ohio State though :D |
Tom
What formula did you use? PM me so that some of us can attempt to resurrect it. Thanks!
I surely miss that ranking system. |
Ranking Formula
Hi Ken,
Are you going to Harrisburg? Hope to see you there and catch up, my friend! I'll see if I can resurrect the formula on the old tothehouse site. Basically, I liked that it dealt strictly with tournaments and the one national league at the time, the NHFL. Now that would be expanded. There were 2 tournaments each year in each region that would count for the rankings plus miggle, which was rotating. Usually we didn't have more than that for tourneys so it wasn't an issue. The ranking system went something like this: Multiply how many times you voted for Obama * 50 points for the general and 25 for the primary. Then add in 30 points if you're from the midwest and an extra 20 if you're a Packer fan...no wonder one year I finished tied for #2 with Revels behind the Raiderman (actually I had 3 runner-ups that year). I think the charts below are pretty close to what it actually was. Now when there's double-elimination you end up splitting the points finer (as you have a 3rd and 4th place person as opposed to 2 semifinalists), etc. When you have a pool play, you rank the people coming out of the pools (like the final 8) like a normal tournament and divide the remaining points by the number of participants. I liked it because it encouraged guys to play other styles...there wasn't one mandated style or anything...just approved tournaments. All the tournaments were open entry so anyone could have the same chance of being #1. In case you're wondering, I believe Baxter won the points title year 1 and Raiderman won it year 2. Big Keith was winning the points title year 3 and I stopped doing it because I didn't have some of the results mailed to me and I started my own business so things got hectic. In a tournament consisting of 4-8 coaches: 1st place = 40 pts 2nd place = 20 pts Semifinalist = 10 pts Eliminated Rd 1 = 5 pts In a tournament consisting of 9-15 coaches: 1st place = 60 pts 2nd place = 40 points Semifinalist = 20 pts Round 2 = 10 pts Eliminated Rd 1 = 5 pts 17-32 coaches 1st place = 80 pts 2nd place = 60 pts Semifinalist = 40 pts Quarterfinalist = 20 pts Round 2 = 10 pts Eliminated Rd 1 = 5 pts 33-64 coaches 1st place = 100 pts 2nd place = 80 pts Semifinalist = 60 pts Quarterfinalist = 40 pts Round 3 = 20 pts Round 2 = 10 pts Eliminated Rd 1 = 5 pts |
The formula
I thought you just threw the names in a box, shake the box, pull a name!?
Who were the past winners of the system??? Adrian Raiderman ????? I think norbert?? Nat'l |

Past Winners
We did the tournament ranking system for 2.5 years on tothehouse.com
I remember the winner of year 1 was Adrian Baxter. I remember him travelling a ton that year and taking home a lot of hardware. I know he came to the Minneapolis Mall of America tourney, I think he went to the Bama event, won one of the Harrisburg two events (at that time there was Winterfest and Slam), won one or both of the DC tournaments (DC College and Columbus Day Bash). The winner of year 2 was Raiderman. He won Winterfest and possibly Slam too. I know he did ok at Miggle and came to the Minneapolis Mall of America tourney and won that. As for Revels, Norbert won Miggle that year, but didn't do a ton of travelling that year. When he came to Harrisburg for Winterfest, fresh off Miggle, I remember I knocked him out in the second round so he didn't get a lot of ranking points (bring a kicker next time :D ). I do remember him making a killing for $ collected from base tweaking that tourney. Actually, that year I tied Norbert for second overall ranking with runner-up finishes at DC College, Columbus Day Bash, Mall of America, and semi-finals at Winterfest. The third year, Big Keith had won Miggle and I believe won the Harrisburg event as well and likely would've won the points title. I had trouble getting the Miggle results and some of the other event results and had been extremely busy at work so it didn't continue...but it was pretty safe to say that Keith was the #1 lock for the rest of the year with 2 big tournament wins. |
My list consist of coaches who won tournaments not league Championship. Because I dont know who they all are can someone make a list who won the most tournaments. That would be my dream team to see how my skills are against these guys who won playing under so much preasure.
Thanks peace |
