Rooms Are Tentavily Booked! Thanks to all who responded.
OK. We have tentavily booked 20 rooms for next years convention. As we get nearer to the date we will soldify how many we actually need and on what days. I did a massive search of the area this last weekend and this is our only option that isn't already booked! Those who responded will get first choice.
The hotel is: Hampton Inn Massillon
http://www.hamptoninn.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=MSLOHHX It is 10 miles from the Stearn Center. It is downtown and it sounds like there is a nice plaza within walking distance for food and entertainment. When I asked the reservationist to describe the area, she said that Massillion is a small FOOTBALL town (her quote). Sounds like a perfect description to me! It has standard Hampton imenities, breakfast and so forth but does not have a pool. Anyone who doesn't want this as their hotel, should book elsewhere NOW! I am not kidding and no whining later! I have secured 20 rooms from Aug. 5 to checking out on Aug 9. The rate is currently $114.00 and am working on securing a better rate from them. (I found other places about the same distance, but the rates were between $199 to $250) 5 King bed rooms 15 double bed rooms 1 small conference room that can hold 3-4 games setups and we will have it for the entire weekend for late night gathering and scrimmaging. All rooms are non smokiing (we can adjust this as we move forward) We will also have space at the Stearn Center for those that want to save their cash and don't mind the camp-in experience. That's where I will be staying! It was critical to get these booked ahead of time even if we move elsewhere as everything is going to fill up fast once the HOF makes its announcements. Keep your fingers crossed that the HOF actually chooses that weekend. They may go to the next weekend, but everyone I have talked to is speculating that it will be that weekend. |
Great!
thmbsp$ I can't wait!

count me in on 1 room!
for all you "cowboys fans" in the hobby - I think it is Emmitt's year for the fun. for a fan of a HOFer, the whole experience will be overwelming if you do the entire package. i know it was the best for me last year when I281 went in. don't miss your chance at history! |

Are there showers in the Stearn Center?
How much space is available? I noticed 2-3 tents in rooms, is that the basic set-up? |
Small football town...
and then some.
Nick and I visited while in Canton at the mfca con. Small town with a HUGE (100 yr.) football tradition. Incredible football history and tradition!!!!!! See a couple pics from our trip in another thread. Quite AMAZING for a public high school. |
yeah the Stern has showers
That place had everything!!!!!
I saw a tent set up outside as well.....that's taking camping to the next level! The whole experience is all the events going on with the MFCA, the NFL HOF, the enshrinement, and game. The tailgate party that goes on at Dan "the Parking Man" aka the Parking Czar house, which is a mere 20yds from the stadium. I think the NFL usually goes with a AFC vs NFC format for the HOF game, so a Cowboys vs 49ers game would be a reach. I'm thinking the guys going will be: Jerry & Emmitt.....Are In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cris Carter - This would be his 3rd year waiting. For the 49ers or Cowboys to play there would have to be another player being inducted..... For the 49ers I'm thinking of Roger Craig, John Taylor, Ricky Waters or Charles Haley??? Don't think the Boys have anyone on the bubble at this juncture? Nat'l |

Yes, the tent setup is what we did. There is more space then we can possibly fill and many rooms we never even went into. I slept on an air mattress with no tent and was just fine! Tents can be erected anywhere in the building that we have access to which is just about anywhere. |
TENT SET UP IS COOL.
COACHES,
The tent set up was pretty cool to see. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAVE SOME MONEY AND BE THERE ON THE SCENE AT ALL TIMES. Please take advantage of the camp in option. Even if you are flying in and renting a car. You can buy a small tent tor what you need at the walmart that is in town. Afterwards, once everything is over. Someone who drove in or someone who lives in town can hold your tent at their house until next year. This way you wont have to lug it back on the plane. JUST AN OPTION TO THINK ABOUT. The faster you plan all of this out, the quicker you can sit back and relax and enjoy the rest of the year knowing you have things in place FOR A WILD SCENE IN CANTON OHIO IN 2010. I MEAN WILD SCENE ON ALL FRONTS FROM A EVEN GREATER CONVENTION TO ALL OF THE NFL THINGS THAT WILL BE HAPPENING. MANTARAYDRE |
I will definitely stay at the Stearn Center next year, I originally put in for a room because I was confused to what was going on, now that I know I've changed my mind. I have a sweet tent thmbsp$
What a deal! |
More about Massillon...
here is the link to the high school football program.
http://www.massillonproud.com/ If you love football you need to check it out - that is why Nick and I did a side trip there while in Canton. Indoor practice facility bigger than the Cleveland Browns! http://blog.cleveland.com/hs/2008/10..._massillon.jpg They get support like this and have not won a state championship since 1970!!! |
Awesome
WOW!!!!
They love their football. Nat'l |
