Coming this Fall/Winter - NFL Greatest Teams Solitaire League

1 Attachment(s)
12 NFL Stadiums, 32 of the NFL's Greatest Teams, TV, music, crowd scenes, miniature talk shows, color commentators, studios, website, newspaper articles, statistics, and everything else you could imagine in miniature football is about to happen!

More than an estimated 1,024 different custom poses, painted to their team's uniform of that era!

Offense in the white, defense in the dark, and 32 players on each team. Everything from 1-4 plays injury to season ending injuries! Night games under the lights and games played in snow!

Commercials, highlights, and some of the greatest names in the history of the game will get to suit up again! Jim Brown, Otis Taylor, Bart Starr, OJ Simpson, Fran Tarkenton, Alan Page, Troy Aikman, Marcus Allen, and the list goes on!

16 game seasons for some of the greatest teams in NFL history is about to take place in my new solitaire league coming this Fall!

Here are a list of the teams and the logo!!!

I knew you wasn't going to far........

......the competitive fire is burning. How bout dem Bruins!!

Reginald Rutledge 09-16-2009 11:56 AM

I will never stop playing the game

Love it too much! But now, I get to play it the way I want to and anytime I want to! I am gonna love being able to assess injuries to players during the course of an entire season instead of just during a game.

RJ, I get to play in any stadium I want without wondering whether the other person is comfortable. I get to do so many things now that I probably would never have gotten to do. Michael was the only one willing to play in snow. He never had a problem with that. I always wanted to watch OJ play in the snow again!

I want to be able to write up the storylines on these teams and create a book about at least one season! So much I want to do and when you've got the human element, you're always trying to schedule things around others schedule. So many great reasons to go back into a world of solitaire. I play the game not just for the competition. For me, that's not that important.

What is important (and we all want to win) is trying to experience the game from what I see the pros experience - the hype, fanfare, and all the things external to play on the field. That's what I love about the game. And the great thing is it can be replicated right here in miniature in this 32 team solitaire world.

Besides, I've always wanted to paint every team in the NFL in home and away and put them on the wall, Now, I get that chance over the span of the next 2-3 years. I am pretty geeked up about that!

As far as UCLA's win over Tennessee, congrats to the Bruins. They played great on the road!

LIKE A RECORDING ARTIST

REG,

This is like a recording artisyt who has many millions of dollars. Made recordings that made the record company happy. Also recorded songs to the fans liking. After many years of that an artist wants to sit down a make a cd/recording just for themself. they dont care if it sell i million copies or 1 copy. Sometimes you just want something for self. At this very point, you will see yourself happy in your own surroundings without any interference.

post some pics of the teams when they are done

good for you, Uncle RR

I think you have some interesting team years, but I think you missed the boat on a couple of them.........

1975-76 Raiders
1991 - Redskins
1998 - falcons

You have the Oilers, but the 1999 Titans?? How about any of the early 90's Bills were better than the team you list.....

.02 worth

detroitchild 09-16-2009 02:15 PM

Nice list Reg

I get the impression that you mixed in favorites from your youth with great teams that are more recent. I also loved the early Buffalo Bills teams featuring OJ Simpson (although K-Lo is right, the early 90 teams were better). I would have picked the Cowboys of the 70's but I can't argue with your pick. In fact, I'd take the teams of the 70's over the 90's/2000's the greater majority of the time. Just reliving my youth I suppose.

Keep us posted on your progress. thmbsp$

Here's the "Un-logic" Truth

The 1975 Raiders brought me to tears when they beat my Minnesota Vikings. At that time, I loved both teams but the Vikes were always #1 for me!

My favorite player of all times is Marcus Allen so I will always have the Raiders with Marcus Allen leading the way. I can already see him or OJ leading the league in rushing! :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

As for the Atlanta Falcons, I just like the old red and gray uniform and Bob Lee. I know they were not a great team and I may change this team to the 1998 team with Jamal Anderson but I love the throwback uniform. I may do an all-time team on the Falcons but I like going back to my youth (thanks Detroitchild).

But if I could get Marcus Allen on every team in this league, I would so when I think of the Raiders, trust me, I know so much about its history but my heart lies with the 1983 Raiders and the greatness of Marcus!

But now, I can go back in time and really have a blast with this thing!

Also, on that Oilers team over the Titans, it's simply because of Earl Campbell! I love me some Earl! The Tennessee Titans represent the same franchise and was 1 yard away from the title but I want to see Bum Phillips kick the dangblasted door in this time!

But now, I can go back in time and really have a blast with this thing!

steelerfan 09-16-2009 04:30 PM

Looks Great, although its funny if you asked the Steelers of the 70's which was their greatest team they all say the 77 version. Even though they lost the AFC championship due to injuries. They just beat teams up during the regular season

This will be where I talk about my league

32 Teams
35 man roster
5 on developmental team
Total team weight = 135 grams strategically distributed
Weeks and Season Ending Injuries

Season starts:

Thanksgiving Weekend 2009
Some Games will be on FF.Net Broadcast Network
1977 Cowboys vs. 1987 Redskins
1985 Chicago vs. 1967 Green Bay
1983 Oakland vs. 1971 Kansas City
1972 Miami vs. 1970 Baltimore

detroitchild 09-18-2009 05:58 PM

Hhmmmm....

I see you switched to the '77 Cowboys. Good pick thmbsp$

There were some classic battles between the 'Boys, Vikings, 'Skins, and Rams during the mid '70s. The Cowboy vs. Redskins rivalry today is NOTHNG like it was back then.

Have fun dude and keep us posted.

Commercial for NFL Greatest Teams

Reginald Rutledge 09-21-2009 02:28 PM

More Information

Each team will have its complete own identity.

There will be a 140 gram weight distribution among 35 players. That means each player weight must average 4.0 grams.

The identity of teams come into play with some guys may weigh 5.0 grams or even 6.0 grams but that means other players may be 3.2, 3.0, etc.

For instance, if I want the Steel Curtain to be 5.0 grams across the front 7, that means somewhere else, I am gonna have to give up some weight. Each team must have 140 grams total or less. The problem comes in that if you have Mean Joe Green, who may be the dominate player at 5.5 grams get hurt and Ernie Holmes at 5.0 grams, your backups may be 3.2 or 2.2 grams, which could cause a big problem on the run defense or pass defense.

Some teams will have great backs such as Jim Brown at 5.5 grams but a sorry defense. Or backups light in the pants.

So many possibilities but all will be based on how I saw each team during those eras that those teams played in.

You can rest assured that great defenses like the Fearsome Foursome, Doomsday, the Steel Curtain, the Purple People Eaters will have dominating defensive units. However, because teams will be able to get hit with weeks and season edning injuries, it will be vital that these players don't play every down and they sub in and out.

You never know when an injury might strike.

Also, for some teams, the Andre Rule will be in effect. I want to see how some teams do with the Andre Rule while others will not have the rule. That will be interesting to see.

1985 Chicago Bears Roster and Weight Distributions

1 Attachment(s)
This will make for a very entertaining and interesting league in that all the players will not have the same weight and if injuries invade, it could be devastating to teams. Some players are heavier than others, superstars get star treatment, and scrubs are just that, scrubs!

Attached is a look at the roster of the 1985 Chicago Bears.

WOW...this is one incredibly involved solitaire project! I love the variable weighted players...let us know how that works out. Reg, you've always got big plans and dreams...thats what I've always liked about you. Keep posting any pictures and updates, its very inspiring.

I have been waiting for this to take off so I can steal all your idea .

I need to know how you get the week and season injurys

average weigth is brilliant

REG!!!!!

The idea to have a team max weight is brilliant!
Absolutly brilliant.

Next year I will propose that the DFW use this logic. This one adjustment to the shootout rules opens the possibilities wide for coaching adjustments from week to week and year to year depending on your opponent.

Reginald Rutledge 09-24-2009 04:30 AM

Texastimetraveler, I appreciate the...

thought but having been associated with leagues for as long as I have and knowing the "win at all cost" attitudes of many coaches, the average weight theory would be next to impossible to do.

Here's why: It's all about ethics! Guys want to win by any means necessarry. Many want to be able to see their names in lights so "how they win" means nothing! It's just that they win and trhat's their bottom line. I've seen that attitude for many years locally and in some cases, nationally.

The problem comes in policing something like this. You do need to police this very closely. Monitoring something like this can be very difficult. While I am flattered by you wanting to propose what I am doing here, everybody is not honest like you. Someone will and can slip a little extra weight somewhere on a player along the line.

In solitaire, it's very difficult. Each team will be registered and this will be their bases and weight for the entire season. My attempt here is to inspire people to get back into playing solitaire. I know some like to play in leagues and I think that's great but there is a segment of MF'ers who are looking to continue playing without having to leave the privacy of their own home.

I will be posting so much on "The NFL Greatest Teams Solitaire League" quite often.

Hi Reginald,

your idea is very interesting ppls$

One question, you said that the bases will be the same for the whole season for each team : but will you allow yourself re-tweaking/fix them during the season, or will you let it exactly the same form the first day to the last one, perhaps to simulate the tiredness of the players after many weeks of play ?

The total weight is also a great idea. But I understand what you means, it should be difficult to use in competition. It's the kind of "what is not forbidden is allowed" problem, too many special rules or opened rules always occurs some players to search for the perfect combo (same thing in classic miniatures figures wargaming, or slot car racing, for example), away from the true spirit of the particular rules.

I guess it depands of the players group, and the objectives of them. Like in slot car racing, some people runs "stock version" cars, other races "free class" cars where almost everything is allowed. I think both are respectable, as long as all players involved has the same objectives.

Anyway, I'll bookmark this topic too, for my own solitaire league. As a complete newbie in EF, and -I beleive- a pioneer on this side of the pond, creating a little solitaire league will be usefull to pratice in the mean time I'll search for game partners here (even if I already found another player for regular playing on monday evenings!)

Interesting

Reg,

This is very interesting and innovative. I'll be watching to see what I can stea......um, borrow for my solitaire league. The only thing I would probably change is reducing my 6.0 guys to 5.0 (or even 4.5) to distribute a little more weight to a few of the second/third stringers.

Great stuff thmbsp$

That's what's so great...

about the game is "no one is right/wrong". If what you think is right, that's what will make your solitaire time worth it. Essentially, no arguments and no one to dictate to you how to play - life is good!!!

We truly see the game of MF in so many different ways and that's why we all are right.

In my logic, I want some teams to be so dominate in one phase of the game and others to have superstar/HOFers who redefine their position that you will be able to see the effect of a broken leg on a defensive tackle which puts him out for 8 weeks or how a running game go from averaging 200 yards/game to 60 after a great back is lost for 4 weeks. Thus, you make some players 6.0 grams, perhaps 7.0 grams, or 4 grams! Who was frighting toyou as a player because he just dominated everybody?

I want to see the Steel Curtain be considered among the best defenses of all time only to lose Ernie Holmes with a broken tibula and then LC Greenwood for 5 weeks because of a quad-tear!

This will definitely change the makeup of the team. The playcalling will remain consistent as "The Box" will call the plays but players going down with injuries will make it a game of attrition.

With 100 plays during a game, there will be plenty of opportunity for things like this. It will be interesting to see the 5-man taxi squad being called up to replace these players. Obviously, some players will be "light in the pants" compared to the superstars they replace but the superstars are significantly better, which causes a big drop off.

This league will be centered around great runners such as Jim Brown, OJ, Sweetness, and the likes and some of the great defenses of my time such as the Steel Curtain, the Purple Pople Eaters and Gang Green.

You will always be robbing Peter to pay Paul in this style of play, meaning if your D-Line weighs 6 grams across the board and your LBs are at 5 grams and you're great defensive backfield is at 4 grams, you've used 55 grams on your defense. This just tells me you have a high-priced defense, million dollar babies, but you will have suffered in other areas, such as O-linemen, RBs, etc. This reminds me of the Baltimore Ravens, who had a caretaker as a QB and not really much but had one of the greatest defenses of all-time.

These are the unique dilema that I am faced with that makes this most entertaining. Half the fun is creating the players and weighing them accordingly and then going through a work out.

Attn French Guy-I will tweak players throughout the season but once assigned a base, that's his base. But all players don't consistently do the same thing on the playing field. They may be sick one day and just don't perform so essentially, they are re-tweaked game by game. We will not get to practice regularly so teams will all have their own identity at the start with a small write up and we will view players throughout the season to weigh their consistency.

Sounds good thmbsp$

I can't wait to receive my own figures and start to play. All that stuff (leagues, pics, vids, rules), it's very inspirating. ltsplbll

The BOX

Reg

Your chart is great! I was trying to think of a way to incorporate injuries and penalties into our league here and this chart works nicely. However, we have been using a shoebox to substitute for the "Box". Everyone who has not tried this style of play is missing out. It brings the coach and the spectator so close to the felling of a real game:D Reg, Did you happen to send my "Box" out yet? Thanks again for the chartppls$ ppls$

I've been telling people about the Action Simulation for MANY years. I can tell you that from my experience, it helps keep things "fresh".

Those aspects of MF can not be simulated how I want without "The Box". I am just "giddy" about having to play a season using the weeks and season ending the way that I want to. Can you imagine, creating the Super Steelers with players at 7 and 8 grams such as Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes, and Dwight White. Then you shake that box up and "Wham, DT (Joe Greene) out for 5 weeks". What a devastating blow to a team that put a lot of stock into this player!

Then, Dwight White gets a season ending injury which makes Pittsburgh have to put in light weights like Jon Banazak! Imagine the great Jim Brown, weighing 6 grams and terrorizing the league, gets hurt and now, "What does the Browns do?" Their second stringer weighs only 2.7 grams and you have to go with it!

Or imagine the great 1985 Bears losing Walter Payton for 2 quarters because of a hamstring pull! How devastating can that be to the Bears championship run.

Between injuries, penalties, and fumbles, this can be a lot of fun. I love the fact that now, I get to see about me. Do what I always wanted to do. And not be bothered. I get to stay up late hours and play when I want to and using the injury rules the way they were meant to be used.

Learn the chart and enjoy the chart. Trust me, it will make the game not boring anymore. And you will be able to talk about it to. And the guy that's listening will think you are talking reality!

Yes, it exactly what I thought (but without the athletes names :D ). It's a really good addtion for solitaire play.

Since here in France, it's possible I'll just find casual gamers to play on versus (wich means demo "soulless" teams to keep the game fair and balanced), I have a great hope in solitaire play to be able to do fine customizing and bases tweaking. And your chart will be helpfull for that.

Creating the Rulebook to be Fair

1 Attachment(s)
Everybody probably played alone for many years so I think many of us had a playbook in mind.

The first version is nearly finished in theory but will be tested sometime soon. These are plays that I know work well in miniature football but developing the defensive schemes to be fair to this is another thing.
