Solitaire Miniature Football Association: Anyone interested
Just putting out feelers to see if anyone would be interested in starting up or being a part of a solitaire miniature football league association. I know there are a lot of solo players out there who enjoy playing this game alone.
Just wondering if any of you feel comfortable in letting me know here at this site if you would be interested in establishing an association. Things such as "How to Do's", strategies, customizing, enjoyment, and support mechanisms can be put in place. I know there are a lot of guys that play alone but don't get the exposure. That's where I am going with the hobby and just wondered if anyone else would be interested in joining me? Reg |
I am in.

Solitaire Miniature Football Association
Reg,
Why do we need another association for solitaire play? Everything you are proposing is available or could be on the MFCA website. We have a section on the forum for solitaire play. I just don't see the need for another Association or Website, Unless it has to do with certain sections of the MFCA only being open to members only or you just want your own website. If that is the case then GO FOR IT. Sorry, I just don't see the need. |
I would like more Solitaire info/ tips/ discussion wherever it can happen

solitaire assocation
EFLfanatic there is only a area for solo coaches we are thinking about having just a little more like games shown on online how to do, rules chats about games played pics a lot lot more!!
|
Coach, I never spoke...
of another website or anything to that nature.
Just like 46defense stated, we enjoyed shairing our time talking about the game on the telephone. There is only a place on here that talks about solitaire rules. So don't read things into the word of "association". Please don't. I just think that guys do not discuss the topic enough and I like picking the brain of guys who see the game from that perspective. Reg |
Again,
... all of it is or can be available on the MFCA Website and forum.
Reg, I am not opposed to a Solitiare Association if that is what you want. I do admire many of the things that you do and you certainly have been one of the great innovators of this hobby. There are so many things that you have to contribute. Why not use the solitaire section of the forum? I don't know why people don't use it. Maybe because it is kind of hidden in the Rules Section. Maybe we need to change that and make it a totaly new forum section. Maybe start your own Blog. I may be totaly off base here. But that is just my opinion. |
But surely the game/hobby is advanced in the public consciousness with more, not less, forums/blogs/websites? Also, the existence of another website devoted to solo play does not obviate against continuing contribution to existing forums/blogs/websites. This is not a zero-sum situation. More information freely traded in the public sphere contributes to the spread of the hobby, not less information. The test will be, as always, to see if a new site is sustainable on its own merits.

Sounds Great!
Comrads:
Anyway to expand "America's Most Underrated Competitive Sport" is great news and fine with me. PLG "If there's not a point on the ball, what's the point to the game." "If there's not a buzzing sound coming from your garage or house on any given weekend, then you're simply not having fun." |
Move the topic
Gentlemen,
Lets move this to the "Your not alone" blog on the main page. |
This has nothing to do with my contributions in the game
Chris,
I could care less about contributions that I made in the game. I just find it odd that until now, this subject of solitaire was just an afterthought. Now that someone wants to take the bull by the horn, it has to be monitored and criticized. I am not one who likes re-inventing the wheel. I did not know that there was a section for Solitaire speak. I thought that section was for strictly putting your solitaire rules up. I never gave it much thought because no one was really exhuberant about talking about their solitaire experience. Any association that I speak of was not intended to create a website. Lord knows I don't have that type of time. I do enjoy getting in conference calling and talking to guys who like to play the game from the solitaire perspective and exchange ideas. I would definitely like to meet some of these coaches, hang out with them, and associate in a manner that is a little different from league play. So there's no need to read anything into this association other than encouraging guys to talk about their experiences in solitaire. You never know how your words can encourage someone else. Also, you may be willing to share ideas with these guys that may not fly in the competitive arena or tournament arena. Just my thoughts, Reginald |
The MFCA is owned by the members. If a number of members express the desire and want for a more visible or different forum for solitaire coaches then I don't see any problem with it. The more things we can do to accommodate the coaches and provide them with the things they enjoy, the better it is not only for the coaches here but for the new coach also.
Solitaire Coaches-Just let us know what the ultimate solitaire forum would be and then we can see how that fits in with the software capabilities and set it up. Most things are easy to do within the vbulletin program. Also, Chris Markum heads up a blog for solitaire coaches on the main page called, "Your Not Alone". This is a great place to also get involved and talk. We are experiencing a huge number of visits to the new site and are getting linked up all over the place. |
Wolf, I knew you would be ...
lurking somewhere! That's what I love about you my friend!
I am not sure how amny guys are thinking in terms of solitaire but I would not mind it having a stronger presence as a potential category alone. But that's just me!! That's why I had created a section for my NFL Greatest Teams Solitaire League is because I wanted to share with guys the type of fun and excitement I am having with the solitaire thing. Right after I put it out there, I had several calls and emails discussing solo! I thought that was great. Even 46defefense and I had a long discussion about the game and we got each other so fired up, it was scary! So I just like being able to go into a discussion on the main page because these guys are just as much players as group leage players or tournament players. The problem is none of them (us) have a loudmouth or bigmouth like myself! Reg |

Don't be so sure...and you're lucky english is not my first language too ! If the forum was in french, it should be really a french tsunami here :rtfl: More seriously, solitaire game is very interesting. First, I didn't understand what solitaire could bring me...but I readed, and readed again...understanding the interest of it (especially YOUR way to play solitaire, mixing modelling, game and even a little roleplaying in the thing) and some posts I readed from you are the cause of my interest thmbsp$ |
my thoughts!!!!!!!!
first let me start by saying i love to play against other coaches one on one,and yes i get my behind kicked, but what i enjoy the most about one on one competition is the fellow shipping you are involved in when you are with that group of guys in or outside of the league you play in.but as a young child when i began playing the game it was mostly by myself so that's why i have this special place in my heart for solitaire play.the one special thing that solitaire play does for me is that you play by a set of rules that you yourself established, you play at the pace you want to,and this last thing is real important to me because guy as much as we enjoy playing in our league games or playing against that one coach you have always wanted to play there is always that one time where it gets heated and you argue about some form of the rules interpetation that has happened during your game.in solitaire who am i going to argue with i made the rules,so i am not going to argue with myself.and if i read where this one coach has this certain way he does something in his solitaire league,i can say you know that might work better for me in my solitaire league,so i change my way and use his way.you can't do that when playing in your local compettion league.that's why when i had that phone conversation with reg and he was telling me how he was going to do things in his solitaire league, it reminded me why i love solitaire so much. i'm sure there are a lot of coaches out there that play in leagues, but also so love to play solitare.norbert is a friend that i know is a awesome coach and plays in one of the best leagues in the country, but i did not know he loved solitare until i saw him at the miggle convention buying teams to get his solitaire league started and reading where he talked about starting his solitaire league.so by all means i am not saying i hate playing against other coaches, because i enjoy that type of competition also, but solitaire has a special place in my heart that will never die!!!!!!!!!!! so i know reg was not talking about starting up another association,he was just letting that love for solitaire come to the front, and i know there are many coaches that share that love also.

Solitaire guys-Let me know what kind of forum or whatever you want and WE CAN BUILD IT.

Solitaire Forum
Wolf, my suggestion would be to move the Solitaire Forum from the Rules forum and make it a completely new and separate forum unto itself. The only question I would have is do we make it open to members only or a public forum.
I love solitaire play more than any other form of the game and enjoy talking and reading about it just as much as any form of miniature football. Like alot of people, as a kid that was the only way I could play the game because none of my friends enjoyed it as much as I did. I spent countless hours playing, ordering my favorite teams, repainting teams to the teams that I wanted to use. Kept a notebook full of play by play game recaps, statistics, and records. 10 seasons worth, before life got in the way. And now since it is so hard to find people in my area to play against, solitaire play is what keeps me most interested in the game. It is the only reason I spent so much time and money developing the kicking cards, knowing that there was not ever going to be a big market for them, but just something that I could do to add to the game and hobby. Sorry, but this is just something that I am extremely passionate about. |
AGREE WITH EF FANATIC
Wolf,
I agree it should be pulled from the rules section and create an entire world for it. Maybe click on a link from the main page and it takes you the Mfca SOLITAIRE world with its own opening home page with all the extras. But all solitaire coaches much contribute mucho information in order for it to work. I imagine the solitaire blog and chat will go hand in hand with it. It all depends how deep and detailed the solitaire world would want this. MANTARAYDRE |
Wolf, what Coach LeMay said!!!
That works!!!
It's about time this area of miniature football got a little recognition instead of being treated like the ugly stepchild. This is probably the only league where artistic freedom will not be questioned or second-guessed. This will probably be the only league/forum where you will get more people coming on to see all the innovations of what a league could look like. I know guys like Effanatic, Clmdesign, 46Defense, French Guy, Mark Robin and others are some of the more talented guys in the game and the inspiration that each one of these people can show each other on the "front page" will be super! I like the elfanatic solution : More visibility, but no isolationism : Reginald 's got the vision for the artistic side of the hobby, wich can be developed in the solitaire play.
I explain, it's like the wargaming world. Some players are searching for the perfect combo, no matter the identity of the army they're supposed to play, and no matter the look of the figs. Some other players love to paint and custom their armies, and play it on tournaments like the way the army was designed by the concept artists and writers, to respect an identity, some kind of role playing aspect. No matter the result, since the player lived a little adventure following his mini heroes. And to conclude, some players...doesn't play a lot, and focus on miniature art. You see the common points we can make between MF and this example. |
Some of us have been posting on the Solitaire section, but being hidden in with the rules section sort of makes it easy to overlook. I think all we need to do is make the Solitaire forum a seperate one, perhaps between the Rules World and the Photo Gallery. Also, I think it would be important to keep it open to visitors, because it would most appeal to new people.
Reg, you said " I did not know that there was a section for Solitaire speak. I thought that section was for strictly putting your solitaire rules up. I never gave it much thought because no one was really exhuberant about talking about their solitaire experience. Perhaps you missed my entire season and playoffs, complete with game summeries and season long stats. I had alot of fun playing and writing it up, and hoped that those who followed it enjoyed it as well. I can't wait until I can add a few more teams and play again. If only I can get my video camera to uplink with my computer...   |
i agree!!!!!!!!!
chris i don't think you need to apoligize about the passion you show for your kicking game cards.they are great, i use them in my solitare league, and i think i was one of the first to get a set, because i beleive i bought them from you at the south bend miggle convention(i think but not sure) i think that's when i first met you.and later to again cross paths at the baltimore convention when i bought those awesome titans with the light blue jerseys you had painted.i also use clm designs play chart in my league and reggies box chart too.this is what i'm talking about when i said that i see something from somebody else and use it in my league.this is one of the many great things that could be discussed in the solitaire forum that could get guys saying you know that might work for me.because the only right way to play solitaire is the way you choose to play,no debate about the rules, they are yours!!!!!!!!

move the solitaire
Make the solitaire section to the main menu instead of inside the rules section. I would visit the solitaire section very often myself!

I'll have it up by Monday!

COACHES,
All over the country there will be coaches who disagree with some in there leagues and on some of the rules. IN THE WORLD OF SOLITAIRE YOU AGREE ON %100 OF EVERYTHING ! YOUR THE COMMISSIONER AND THE CONDITIONER IT'S YOUR PRIVATE WORLD THE WAY YOU SEE IT. SOMETIMES THE BEST MEETINGS ARE WITHIN ! LIFE IS ALL ABOUT THE SET UP !!!!!! *****There are some in the world who work better without others. Prince did'nt show up for WE ARE THE WORLD by accident. mantaraydre |
How about this...

Solitaire Coaches Association sponsored by the MFCA...I want a logo Wolf! Perhaps using the current MFCA logo, with MFCA man playing by himself on a board. :D
I think we can have our cake and eat it too. An organization or "sub-committee" within the MFCA. This could be a promotional avenue, because most newcomers are solitaire players or atleast could benefit from some basic instruction in forming a solitaire league at home. Someone within the MFCA, who would be willing to be the "embassador" of solitaire play could really give new members something they could use. Options are great in promotion, whether a new coach wants to play in a league or form their own at home...however we can help them adds to the promotional value of the MFCA. I still think we should have some sort of mentor program... I have 25 solitaire seasons under my belt...check out Wolf's logo he made for my next superbowl in the CSL (Culp Solitaire League). |
I Love it Silverhorse
Yeah Wolf,
What Matt said!!! This is starting to get good!!!! |

Buccs O/D BAM Rulesthmbsp$ Cardinals O/D BEFL Rulesthmbsp$ :D so....kick off is in 1 hour and I am practicing the discipline to compete against myself for an intense hour and ...No team can be my favorite + No arguing:rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: can I do it:o ...the film will tell.:D :D :D :D :D :D $cch$ ppcrn

I don't want to take too much credit for...
anything.
I know that I do remain in the Foxhole with the other players in the game. Sometimes I think I am too personal about the game, seeing that I own a miniature football company. I guess I could be less involved in that manner but I am passionate over the game. If what I said or my thoughts have made a difference in the perception of the solo player, that's a good thing. But I think everyone who is writing about the topic is now getting their "just due" because we are just as passionate about the game as league players - probably even more. Yeah, it's a great feeling in the winter time when you can pull out the game at 10:00 at night and not have to wait on anyone to come play. It takes a great imagination to play in this manner but us solo players know this is what's best about the game. You don't need anyone and you can play the game the way you want too. Reg |
