Proline figures ?
 

Hi,

I'm looking on the Miggle Store, and I discovered the Proline figures range...

Anyone 's got info on that ? good pics of customs based on this range ?

For what I can see, I see pretty good potential for customization... Are they compatible with big sized figures (bigmen, ff.net, etc...) ?

Here's a couple pro-line customs. I'm not a great customizer, but you can do a few things with the Pro-lines.

Prolines
 

I personally hate them. Awkward body proportions that look comical. However, Mike Guttman nad some others have done good things with them. As for me, I gave them to my six year-old. He thinks there great.....

Here are some links to what can be done to some Miggle Prolines. I write this post because I was one of the biggest critics for these figures as I felt they were outdated. I was so wrong. I will explain specifically later. A little history.

The Proline figures were made from resin and sold by the legendary Mark and Bill Klingbiel. They were created pre-decal, pre facemask so all the parts were built into the mold. This explains why it is a challenge for some to bring them up to specks in todays' customizing age. However, they are more than functional in fact they are actually outstanding and your only real challenge is to get them to work correctly on the field. Once you do that they can inflict heavy damages to your opponent. I am including a link to my Giants for this year done by Mike Guttman. #53- Can blitz from both sides, extremely hard to grab. Forward lean gets him through the line quickly. I also another linebacker who is deadly accurate and super fast.

#44-That's actually Kyle Rote and the color has been corrected. These guys have excellent forward lean that offset strength issues related to Rookie bases. A cover corners' nightmare. This figure makes guys customize their cover corner's arms to get lower. Subsequently, if they succeed the other receivers are able to get open. they are very sturdy, and even on the slender rookie base, can come out of the backfield, run up the middle, and they fly on specialty teams. I stumbled across this figure Dimitri and the guys in our league are scrambling to both deal with and duplicate this player. The best find in my entire 40 years of playing.

#64-I think he may be the strongest player I ever made. When I initially received the team from Mike I thought I made an error by not making this figure a linebacker. However, through diligence I found that this player can put weight on the back end of the base yet still lean into the line, make a move, and penetrate. I have seen this guy coming through the line with three guys hanging on him. We have great coaches in our league and that is no easy feat.

#91-This guy is still a work in progress. He is excellent at rushing the passer quickly. You can also blitz him from the linebacker position. I use him as a stand up pass rusher. I love this cat.

#84-Reggie Rutledge has a figure like this but anything you see similar to a proline came after, not before. These are the first customs, the Alpha and Omega. Prior to that only the legendary Dirk Thomas customized Tudor players. The reason I use this as a tight end, and split end, is because the player cannot be easily grabbed. I use his quickness and ability to slide left and right to influence the defender away from where I'm trying to go. If you get too physical with him goodbye. He's on my Shockey, and Zeke Mowatt. I can split them both our as receivers too.

#9-It's Brad Van Pelt but we can't have duplicate numbers on our team and I gave 10 to Eli, not Fran.

Same figure as #53 however he runs straight as an arrow. Again he has excellent balance and speed.

#85-I was shocked to see that his low posture gets him by cover corners both buzzball and FF. com. They have to be fast and this player is yet another fantastic specialty teams player.

#81 and #86-After placing these men on bases and watching them fall awkwardly when I turned on the board I placed a call to Mike Guttman and told him I was sending two guys to replace them as I felt I made a huge mistake in selecting them for my team. Enter Proline, rounded fronts. Angle the player on that huge platform and they are both powerful and can be fast. They are actually better suited for tight end as you will note stark similarities with a buzzball fullback figure. The Buzzball figure breaks more cleanly because the arms are inward and the head is projected forward. This figure engages, occupies you physically, then breaks away. It's like a three stage rocket, it won't be your first option.

For what I can see on the pics, the figs are promizing enough for me. You made (or your painter?) a great work.

On a sculpture/position point of view, Some figs are well balanced and great looking (the #64 is great, I want to make Vernon davis with that, what do you thing about it ? :eek: ) , other are not so great (#84 "zombie", #25 "big head" :rtfl: ), but in an overall vision, they looks cool, and very playable and customizable. AND CHEAP.


What I see it's the cool price for them. I'm not afraid to customize (or even almost rebuild the figs, see my niners linemen work in progress) :D

I'll make an order soon in Miggle store. So if I can combine shipping, it 's OK for me. Remember I'm in Europe, so if I order things here, here and there, the price will increase a lot, what I can 't afford these days. It's why I'm trying to make my list of christmas shopping in Miggle store to complete the "core" of my MF hobbyist material. And because I want to support that historical pillar of electric football (even if I respect other companies in the hobby, I've got great buzzball and ff.net products too).


The last question is about the figures scale. Since I 'll play a lot of FF.net figures, which are quite big, what is the size of Miggle proline ones compared to FF.net ones ?

The size is compatible, the weight is not.

FF.Net figures are heavier.

That used to be how receivers lined up. Straight up, hands down. The slightest movement in the 70's to late 80's by a wide receiver caused a penalty. It is actually accurate for the position even if it wasn't designed for it.

Price wise, you can't beat the prolines, or any Miggle product. They are not as flexible as FF.com but they will meet any weight specifications, in any league in the United States. Their weight is similar to Buzzball Figures.

Historically speaking, FF figures were introduced with a disclaimer that they were for design, not play. They caught on and people started using them. In my league, currently the Great Lakes, we used to have a 3.2 gram weight limit. I found no problem with the Miggle, Haiti Repros, Buzzball, or prolines. However, with the FF.com I had to cut the platform, then glue the man to a thin sheet of plastic. Others had to cut the man then hollow them out and glue them back together. Whew! I built a great Eagles team but just changing out bases was like working a job.

If you are in to creating Lifelike poses and things, then I am told that FF.com is easiest for the entry level customizers.

The best customs I have seen came from a guy named Chris Robertson. I think he used Haiti Repros and Buzzball but others may be able to help you there.

Purchase some lead golfing tape, set a weight limit, about 4.0, and go from there. You definitely need a scale more than anything to properly assess your team.

Vernon Davis would be excellent on that figure however the concern is will he get open? He'll surely look good! thmbsp$

#25 is a Buzzball Cover Corner. For some reason a good physical Defensive Back does have a small body and a big head! :rtfl:

I'll buy a couple of bags of these figs on my next miggle order. I'm sure I'll make something with it. And the modelling challenge is interesting too (making good looking figs from a cheap and not appreciated figures range, it should be pretty cool :D )


As I said, the only thing I was afraid was the size compatibility with ff.net figures I've already got.

I love the proline figures. I think they spell football in regards to their poses. Couple them with ff.net figures and dewayne jennings mini mac's. you can create a nice looking team. I like that running back (well all the fig's) ken allen has on his giants. That's a cool running pose with a football in his hand. I would place him in the backfield with a ff.net running back. Also their size are pergect to blend with the larger figures. A good WR LOOK is the proline wr placed on the left side. ( due to him looking up towards the right. ) And the ff.net speed demon on the right hand side (due to him looking left as he is running). Both are big strong looking wr's that are ridiculously balanced . Put both on a rookie base and you have T. O and RANDY MOSS streaking down field. GET YOU SOME PROLINES FOR XMAS !!!!!!!!!!

hey ken, also the running back you have with the football in is hands. he also looks exactly like the patriots slot receiver WES WELKER after he catches the ball and begins to run. That is also a possibilty for someone in the slot position.

PS/ I am painting all of my receivers in that proline and ff.net pose. %100 percent performance from both and extremely balanced. They run straight as heck on the right base.. 2 each.. The addl 2 is in case i go empty backfield and 4 wide. PLUS. NO CUSTOMIZING NEEDED WHATSOEVER. !!!!

Notice the S-DEMON looking left, just place him on the right hand side on the field. Look at the pic of the proline reviever ken allen has put up. Place him on the left side of the field. Visualize them playing together. Their poses give you a nice realistic motion pic/pose due to their running stance and where they are looking.

I've got this ff.net figure ;)

What I wanted to see is more the scale/size comparaison between proline and ff.net fig, more than the style comparison, in fact :o

I don't have the ff.com figure.
 

The receiver that Dre is referring to is a pose that I think Reginald customized on his CBSMF Volunteers. Now, that figure is going to be added to my CBSMF team. It is one of the sweetest I have seen. Plain, simple and realistic.

The scale and size are pretty much the same. The weight is the issue. I know the platform on the ff.com's are very heavy and some players are pretty solid. The difference ranges from about .2 to .9 grams. A scale will truly help you find all the answers.

Remember

Buzzball, Miggle, Haiti Repro, Proline same weight range.

ff.com is heavier by .2 to .9 grams in such cases.

For the weight, I'll receive (I hope) soon my precision scale , so I'll be able to balance everything. If the ff.net bases are heavier, I'll be able to change the proline's ones by thick plasticard, for example. ;)
