Niners offense : custom, sculpt, paint

Hi,

Now I made my linemen, I'll do the "score men" :D

So I start as usual with bare FF.net figures I modify more or less.

The first, the running backs : classic HB FB scheme.

For the half back, I take a right hand RB chest I put on a "gallopin ghost" legs assembly. The legs assembly was modified to a (IMHO) better realistic look. The whole thing was re-glued on base, and balanced.

the full back is made from a "dominator" figure I modified. I moved the head, modified the legs, and base position. The goal is to make a powerfull rushing look.

Of course, my RB and FB will have a little cure of steroids (especially the FB) before painting :rtfl:

then, my two wide receivers. I keep one of them stock, the other had just the head cutted and moved to look the inside of field (classic left and right receiver scheme). I'll make the now usual modifications (face, helmets, arms, and chest) of course.

On the pic before the last one, you can (almost) see that I'm currently experimenting a new face sculpting technic...if I achieve anything good, I'll make a tutorial. It should be a WAY easier to do than using putty, but with decent results.

Finaly, The tight and and QB are not done for now.

The tight end will recieve a special treatement, you can see all the pieces on the last piece. Yes, it's Vernon Davis you're watching here :rtfl:

sh..

I realized that I didn't glued the good chest for my half back (left hand) :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

running backs 1.1 !

Hi,

I fixed the problems of my running backs, here's the pics. Perhaps I'll move slightly the FB back arm too, I'll see that tommorow (it's 10.30pm).

Taylor 11-16-2009 08:02 PM

one thing

One thing that I recommend is that you take the running back on the right in the last pictures, and you take his left arm and move it forward so it looks like he is running, because when a person the runs they alternate their arms and legs moving forward and backward, so left arm forward, left leg back. You know what I am saying?
Nice job on the starting stages.
Taylor

the french guy 11-17-2009 04:55 AM

yes I see, very clever observation thmbsp$ I didn't think about that at all.

But I think I'll let him like this : I wanted him more "rushing" than running. So I wanted to avoid to have an arm wich can be hooked by the defense ;)

full back 1.2 and tight end

Hi,

this morning before work I made the rough shape of my tight end, and slightly modified my FB too.

The TE concept was to make a "square" player, very low center of gravity for power, balanced weight, and no edges a defenser can hook. You can see on the top view that the figure is not larger than his base, for that purpose.

This tight end is made from bits of RB figures, I cutted the head, chest, legs, right arm. You can see on the pics that I'll have a lot of resculpting to do. As I expected, the TE figure will be the biggest customization job I'll do for this team (with the Oline center).

For the FB, I just made the arm more inside, for same rushing purpose.

the french guy 11-19-2009 05:32 AM

Now...

I modified the faces and helmets, and start the resculpting job on the tight end.

I also started to reinforce the glued parts of some figs, and resculpt defects too.

tonight, I'll finish the fixes.

body building

Hi,

tonight I worked on the arms (need some muscles) and sculpted the chests.

Here 's the pics.

First, the tight end and receveurs. The tight end is stronger than the receivers.

Then, the half back, full back and quarterback. The HB and QB are thin, the FB is stronger.

next steps tomorrow. I hope to start the paint sunday, so My offense squad will be complete before the end of the month. After that, I will have one month to build and paint my D squad AND my brother's team too (before Xmas).

You could call them the Money Makers as well.

Scoring men, Skilled players.....it's all good!

Give me the reason why the 49ers? I'm bout to add you to my list of Favorite 49er fans!!!!

Nat'l

the french guy 11-21-2009 05:43 AM

to know the truth, you have to read the last Tweak issue to know the reason :rtfl: (free adverstisement ! :D )

More seriously, the niners simply because I discovered american football with that team !

When I was a teenager, the 49ers was one of THE bigs teams (even if their apogee was finished) ;)

Hi,

today I'm tired cause I worked, so I just added little and easy details on the figs.

I added some towels on receivers, TE and QB. I quickly fixed the QB face too (since I cutted it too much last time).

here's the pics. Tomorrow I've got work to do, so I guess I'll take my week end on monday, to finish the sculpting job before painting.

Great Muscle Technique thmbsp$

the french guy 11-23-2009 06:34 AM

Thanks thmbsp$

I believe if my Niners team doesn't win on the football field, they all will find a new job in pro wrestling :rtfl:

Coach K-LO 11-23-2009 07:10 AM

Great stuff

thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

love your muscle work,too.

The TE is a monster!!!!:rllngs: :rllngs: :rllngs:

I might have maid Gore one of these type of poses (IMO) because he is a power RB and could be more like this....

Question, what does the team look like that the 49ers play against??

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean here ? :o

This afternoon, I'll finish the figures for painting. This morning (I'm on week end!) I fixed little defects (knees, etc...) and I made TE Vernon Davis hair.

THis figure is my favorite, I think I catched the power of the best Niners player (IMHO) this year with that figure ltsplbll

the french guy 11-23-2009 02:30 PM

I can't wait to paint Mister Davis !

I discovered that pic on google :

I 'm more than happy with the TE fig I did ! :D I can't wait to paint it, even if I will not do the complex tatoos :D

the only issue is that my own TE keeps his ball in his left arm, but...nobody will notice it here in France :rtfl:

Lindyhopper49 11-23-2009 04:33 PM

you will notice that players will sometimes change the ball to the hand that is away from an oncoming defender. I am sure there are lots of pics of vernon with the ball in the other hand

;)

the french guy 11-23-2009 05:14 PM

I didn't notice that. On the pics I saw he had the ball under the same arm...but I don't really care, after all :D

Tonight I finished the custom job. Chinstraps, and some extra details.

Especially for my half back, I made a eyes shield, I was inspired by that pic :

See attached pics for the result...Dark vador is playing football :rtfl: i

My two favorite figures are definitly my TE and HB...powerfull, agressive and dynamic ltsplbll

tomorrow, I'll make the undercoat, and start the painting in a few days.

the french guy 11-24-2009 02:02 PM

the warriors are here !

Hi,

Tonight I undercoated the figs...Tommorow I'll fix the little defects the undercoat revealed (undercoating is usefull for that), then....paint !

I'm happy with the result of my faces "mass sculpting". They look like warriors hlmt$

I like the undercoating stage. It really reveals the figure sculpting and customizing, because the matte grey undercoat catch the light. You directly see if the figure "works" or not. And when you're experimented, you already can see the final result in imagination (I do that for my pro scenery work : I can see a bit of styrofoam and see a castle in it :rtfl: )

steeler1 11-24-2009 03:23 PM

good job

The men look great! What do you use for the face and what is the green (Putty stuff) you use called.

Great job on Davis and Gore. Vernon is having a pro bowl year for sure!

too bad the Niners doesn't have 10 other Davis on their team this season :D

Thank you for the comments !

for the putty, I used "green stuff" paste. Easy to find on Ebay, for example. I buy mine in 36" rolls for about 20USD shipped. I buy big quantities because I work professionnaly with that every day (and everynight, on hobby time...I do quite the same thing, but it's funnier I don't know why :rtfl: )

for the faces, This time (except for the QB) I simply roughly sculpt them directly in the plastic, with xacto knife and sand paper. The result is good, easy and fast, even it's not as good as really sculpted faces.

Mini update

5 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Today I sanded the last defects, and prepared the figs for painting.

I'm very happy with my "knife sculpting" technic for the faces...with the undercoat, the result is as good as real putty sculpting IMHO. See attached pics.

To be continued. Before the end of the year, I'll do a complete 22 figures steelers (2009-2010 roster) team for my bro's christmas, and I'll finish my own (at least, the offense) team too.

After that, in 2010 I'll go for full sculpting, and for "one shot" (unique figures, reproducing NFL HOF stars for example, so I'll have fun painting the whole NFL teams range) complex customizing too.

And perhaps I'll make a third team in last months of year 2010.

TVsCHACHI 11-30-2009 12:45 PM

Very Nice thmbsp$

this afternoon, I painted the basic colors. Tonight, I'll make another coat on jersey and pants, then go for advanced tecnics (see my article on MFCA.org to see the "how to" tutorial).

shading and highlightning

2 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Tonight I finished the shades and highlights on the main coats (jersey, pants, skin) of the figures.

Here's some pics of the result (bad pic, quite saturated because it's 8pm night here).

This week I'll finish them. Tommorow (maybe tonight) I'll start maling the gloves, straps and stuff like that.

PS : you'll notice that I'm doing one white skin and one black skin scheme : It's simply easier than searching for each player to see if he's got clearer or darker skin (so I should adapt each painting scheme to each individual) and give some uniformity for the team.

@One2watch : thanks ;)
