Custom Vikings finished

41 Attachment(s)
I finally finished my custom Vikings team using their 1979 uniforms.
All figures were made by me using Buzzball, Repros, 67Bigmen and Prolines.
Paint-Mike Beal's RM401 & 402 For the away jerseys I used Liquitex soft body iridescent white(Pearl white) paint.
Decals-Beals
Yes, they all have eyes-Beals
Chinstraps-Mine
Facemasks-Buzzball

After I was done decalling I used Triple thick brush on gloss, then I sprayed them with dullcoat. Then, I glossed the helmets.

The O-line weighs in from 2.4g to 2.7g and the D-line weighs in from 2.2g-2.5g

Enjoy

Great Job Mike!

That Matt Blair pose has done wonders for me. It's amazing how the customs come alive when that paint gets tossed on them. Clean, of course, and the finish is nice! thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

Poses are great, painting is sharp and clean, and I'm a big fan of the matt finish technic ppls$

In that way, the helmets (important focusing part of a MF figure) are highlighted.

O my God those are great. between these, the '75 vikes i got from you that look eerily like the same team and the way the Vikings are playing this year, i think the vikings have gone up a notch are to in my personall "like" rankings. thanks mike, now im gonna have to pull out your ;75 vikes to play Rav. Al's Rams that you guys did for me. what a battle that will be. the winner can take on my 77 man buzzball squad done by Raiderman and Chris S. looks like my EF weekend is full. i think this is one of your better works, i love the matte' jersey, the slightly different white used on jersey/shirt, and the shiny helmets. this team is special, cause my first viking squad i used 11 of the names you have, based on '74 and '75 seasons. best EF years of my life.

A true appreciation of your work

Mike,

First off, this team is exquisite. Always clean and fresh, your customs really come to life and look even better in the final product. The stock figures as well, dont look like stocks any longer and start to take on real-being look.

I also appreciate the detailing of materials used. I am about to finish a huge (and my very 1st all detailed team) of Cowboys, this weekend. Just last night, I was wondering in what order should i apply the different coats. Well, i dont have to wonder anymore, thank you.

But in expression of all the guys out here who detail, i love how each guy kinda has a signature move. You and your neck lines really bring out the flow of the shoulders, almost looking like they are in motion - outstanding stuff.

But for real, i think i am gonna go teenager again and start saving my money for a GUTTMAN team. I am huge on having some kind of piece of work from you guys in my collection, anything at all. And i now NEED to see one of your paint jobs on some of my custom figures. We have talked about it in the past, but now, that talk needs to happen. The GUTTMAN fund will start today, saving pennies and $$$ the best i can. I know this sounds silly, but thats how excited i am right now to imagine a team from you in my collect.

Good stuff Mike. Real good looking team.

Scott

Custom Vikes

Even though they are the "Vikings", great work is great work. Job well done Mike.

I especially like the away Tarkenton, DL's with their hands facing the OL, the Blair pose is really tight, and I always like the hiking center.

Way to represent!

Treks1 12-11-2009 10:12 AM

Another fantastic team Mike! Perfect timing to inspire me as I am just starting two teams of Vikings, current and classic jerseys.

As my kids would say, "Those are awesome possum!"

Did you say that you made the chinstraps? Those look really cool. Are you selling them or was that just a one time project for you? Let me know. I might be interested in ordering some.

I have some Mike Beal Air Force Falcons
Some Chris Stacey in about five teams
Mike Guttman did my Giants for this year!

I am a huge fan of the dull finish and highlighted helmet. When I first saw it I took a step back. Then, I laid them out, went somewhere and came back. When I looked at them again they looked so real. Most jerseys and pants don't reflect light. That finish is the real deal and I am noticing it showing up more often. Again great job Mike! thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

Vikings.....

Mike,
Great job.Very nice indeed.I know how
some guys like their squads "shiny" and
that's cool,to each their own.Hey I use to
like them that way too, until I saw a team
done with Testors DullCote spray.I fell in
love with it and do all my teams and alot of
jobs that way.I give the customer his choice
and if they're not sure I go with the DullCote
finish. It just looks good and more realistic in
my opinion.Plus the DullCote is much easier to
apply.I've not had good luck with Gloss spray
of any kind.So if I have to gloss a team ,I brush it
on.I use either Delta Ceram Coat -Gloss or TAMIYA
X-22 gloss clear coat. Both are good.
But back to your Vikes.....they look great.
Very nice job.thmbsp$

RMan-Yes, I'm making my own chinstraps. Can't see paying $10 for 33 of them. I sent you and two others samples to try. You can let me know what you think and what changes I should make.

Chris Stacey-The best Gloss Spray out there is Triple Thick gloss spray! I have never had an issue with it. The last 3 teams I did for Raiderman I used it. Ask him how they look.

Thanks for the praises everyone! Next-I'm doing a team in honor of CorEy.

ChrisStacey 12-12-2009 07:50 AM

Triple Thick Gloss Spray...

Mike,
I tried Triple Thick spray and ended up having to
re-do an entire Vikings squad ( 60 figs) in the new
uniform. It bubbled -up REAL bad.Not sure what the
issue was or if I did something wrong.I shook the
can real good.Sprayed 8-12 inches away.Temperature
was warm......So I don't know....All I do know is that
I had to re-do 60 Vikings in that new ( very time consuming)
uniform.I won't use Gloss spray EVER again......LOL
I basically did that job for free. Not that I'm getting rich
doing this but.........That particular uniform is a "bear" to
do.You know.

spray varnishes can be quite suprisigin, depending of the decals and paint you use before...Since I paint slot cars too, it's something I learned to fear :D

nostalgic

Wow!

I remember watching many of those Vikings. I'm NOT picking on them now but whenever I see those colors done so well, I think of Sammy White losing his helmet (and almost his head) against the Raiders or Ahmad Rashad making that one-handed catch of a Tommy Kramer hail-mary. Ever notice how much faster Rashad got later in his career? I bet Rashad never would've gone from one 1-yard line to the other 1-yard line like that Bobby Moore guy with the Cardinals! :) I know you artists out there could do just a few classic players from classic teams. I've seen the Jim Browns and the "Sweetness" of Walter Payton. How about some high-steppin' Terry Metcalfs? Or an even bigger high-steppin Otis Taylor. Oh, and just for fun, Mike, you could have added a Fred Cox figure - not a great kicker, just a long-time Viking. I'd love to see a pug-nosed Larry Csonka or a hard-chargin' Bob Lilly. Guys, you amaze me with your talents. Where's the MFCA Hall-of-Fame museum? Keep up the fantastic work from a jealous onlooker.

Very Nice!

That is a great looking team. I really like the change in color from the purple on the jersey to the helmet. It looks like you actually changed tone as well as adding gloss. That is a realistic touch. Your mix of poses really gives a nice style to the team, custom but still true to the Tudor look. And of course they are your usual crisp and clean looking work. I can't wait to see more.
