Convention guests

10 Attachment(s)
I see that the forum has been as bit slow as everyone is at the convention. I am posting this for those of use who cannot be there, as I am sure there must be others. Man, do I wish I could have made it. Best wishes to all who are there! drl$$ thmbsp$ :chr:

Those at the convention will probably already know about the special guests, but for the rest of us, here is a hint of what we are missing.

Dewayne Jennings arranged for some former Ohio State stars to be in attendance at the convention. All three played in the NFL. Dewayne asked me to make some custom figures of them.

These are custom poses made from Dewayne's Electric Gridiron figures. They are:
  • Roger Harper in his Cowboys away jersey. He was a Safety fort both the Falcons and the Cowboys in the Mid 90's.
  • Garcia Lane of the KC Chiefs, who was a kick returner during the mid 80's.
  • The last one you all probably know, Dominik Hixon of the Giants. He has been a WR/KR for the past few years, including Super Bowl XLII.
Names, numbers and logos were decals, and the rest painted. I hope I made the real players proud of their miniature football selves.

WOW!!!

With Dewayne Jennings figures and this type of painitng, we certainly have evolved to a new level.

I noticed the slow down in posting on the forum too, which I am sure is due to those who are attending the convention. I wasn't able to go as well. Just looking forward to all the great convention postings and stories when everyone returns.

Anyone know if they are going to be broadcasting any of the games on UStream or anything like that? or doing a play by play online?

Gridiron painter, your figs are great. Difficult to evaluate the real scale of them, on the pics : wich is a sign of high quality painting IMHO ppls$

Speaking of the convention, it should be great to see vids, pics and live stuff, for sure thmbsp$

If those weren't on a base, I would almost guess they were 10 inches tall...beautiful as always!

Exactly ! Hat off, G.P !

I think for our next figure contest, we will go to 3 classes.
Traditional style-no shading or highlights...like Guttmann's style for instance
Enhanced style-Fields, Jeff, Dimitri and Gridiron for examples
No Decals style-Ravenna Al for example

Any other ideas?

Sounds good,

I sure as F can't compete with this :rtfl:

Thank you!

Thanks for you compliments.

I certainly agree about there being a distinction in styles in the contest. Perhaps the breakdown could be based on type or size of figure. I know that there is a big difference between standard figures and Electric Gridiron figures. The size difference and sculpting makes the amount of detail alot easier to paint and add.

I do not want my work to discourage other people!

I have just been trying to push my techniques to the maximum realism to see how far it can go. I still like my 1969 Super bowl Chiefs as well as any figures I have or have done. They are not nearly as detailed as these figures, but I like that they are a truly customized team, and still look good when I play them against regular tudor/miggle figures.

I can't really use Dewayne Jenning's figures against the regular ones as they look like a different scale and they have so much more detail. Also, the weight advantage makes it hard to make the game competitive with out adding weight to the regular ones.

I guess this is one more thing that will have to be worked out by the competition rules commitee.

Thanks again for your encouragement.

Michael

Weight

I guess this is really just the same old discussion about weight class isn't it. I will eventually try to do a complete weight comparison between all of the figures and post it where ever it should be.

I need to order some Buzzball figures and Footballfigure.com figures to compare. Those are on my things to order list, but I just don't have them yet to compare.

I agree, especially on type/brand distinction.

Even if each brand has his own qualities, everybody will agree ( I think) that some brand/ranges are more detailled than some other ones (french diplomacy :rtfl: )

So perhaps, to make a contest more fair, we should split it in diferent categories :

each brand (miggle, jennings, Buzzball, ff.net) stock painted figure

customized painted figure (no matter the brand, or even hybrid figs, BUT with work in progress pictures so we can juge the customizing level too).

and a "special prize" for the best figure no matter the brand, customized or not (based on overall look, and/or originality of the subject, dynamic, sculpting, etc...)

or something like that...

Welcomed!

GP - Your work is outstanding. I witnessed these figs at the convention and just stared at them, like in a trance. The modeling of these figs encouraged me to buy far more Jennings figures then i had planned. ANd i cant wait to have at it.

Yeah, your work is discouraging:rtfl:  :rtfl: , at first. But far more encouraging and exciting as it can only make us all bring our game up another level, within the realm of whatever our "level" and "game" is. And thats all we can ask forthmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

Thanks man and please keep posting.

Scott
