Good luck with the tourney...should be fun....ppcrn |
Geno, I like the NAME! (we have been passing ideas back and forth but that one is a winner).
My son Joe and I will be there! The rules are fun and competitive to play by and this will be a blast. They are basically the NHFL rules with some tweaks that allow for more passing options. If you live in NE, OK, KS or Colorado, get down to this event and lets get the Mid America area up to where it should be! Thanks Geno for putting this event on! ppls$ |
Georgia
So if I live in Georgia, I'm not allowed to come?????:rtfl: :rtfl:
Wish I could, if I had the weekends off, I would probably go...Enjoy and take a bunch of pic's so Geno could put some on Face Book:) |

Seriously, anyone that wants to make the trip out can fly into Kansas City and ride out with me. You can fly to Wichita also, but I am guessing that the rates are cheaper to KC. Either way, the best way to get there is by horse or stagecoach. :D |
Got your logo up for you!
|
Heading for Kansas!!
Geno, my grandson and I will be attending and can hardly wait. We will be flying in to Wichita on Friday night and renting a car for the drive up to Lyons. My team will be an all star team made up of members who played football for Raymond High School, Raymond, Kansas from 1940 to 1956. Lots of fun making the team. Uniforms will be Purple, white and brown, very plain. No helmet decals, just numbers. My grandson will be bringing his very first team that he is painting himself. Could be his Pop Warner team, the Merced Bears.
This will be our first Miniature Football event and we are looking forward to it. Doug |
Will there be skills contests?
Geno, will you be having a fastest and strongest man contest? How about a passing accuracy contest? Hope So. Doug
|
The MFCA will be hosting a Skills Competition for kicking, passing, strength and speed.
All skills competitions are pre-qualifiers for the National in Canton. |

Doug you bring up another good point as well. Coaches you can have Pro,College or Fantasy teams. We would prefer for offense in dark uniforms and defense in light uniforms but if you just have a one color squad its not a deal breaker and we will work it out. Great job on the logo Wolf as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Geno H |
What?!
Well if there is a skills competition then I am coming! ppcrn
As long as Healey and Greco don't show I might actually win something! |
Tournament
Good Luck, guys. Wish I could come.
Great job on the logo Wolf!!!! |
WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Things are falling in to place. I have airline tickets, rental car and now motel reservations for my grandson Tyler and I as we will be attending our first Electric Football Event at the Mid America Melee on April 17th and 18th. We will be flying in to Wichita and taking a rental car up to Lyons. Our flight gets in at 3:48 and we should arrive about 6:30 or 7 Friday night. Can't wait for it to get here. I have been painting my teams and will have the 1940 - 1956 Raymond High School Bulldogs All Star Team (my home town was Raymond, about 15 miles from Lyons. The high school closed in 1957). One thing about a team from that era, the uniforms are simple. No stripes on the pants, no helmet decals, just a jersey number to decal. I love it.
I figured out a way to make a player holder to use while I am painting it. I put a #6 x 3/4" round head screw into a 3" x 3" x 3/4" board. I stopped about the distance of a base from screwing it all the way in. Then, I took my dremel tool (you could use a file here) and filed 2 flats on the head so it would fit through the slot. Then I just put the player I was painting on the modified screw head, slid it forward so the unfiled part of the screw could hold it, and I was ready to go. Works really well when you spray clear coat on it, plus makes the player easier to hold still while painting. I will take some pictures later and post to the forum. Doug, a rookie coach preparing for his first game. |
Just wondering about kids? Joe is coming with white and dark Steelers. He is almost 7. What other age kids are going to be there?
|
Kids at Mid America Melee, April 17 & 18
Lynn, I am bringing my grandson who doesn't even know he is coming yet. I am getting him a board, a set of tweaked bases, and players for his birthday. He is an avid Pop Warner Football player, but has been benched for one year because he has a bone blood supply problem in his right knee. He can't have any physical activity. So, to help fill the void, I am going to get him involved in miniature football. He will be 13 on his birthday in a couple of weeks. We will play a couple of practice games and then go to the event and both of us are gonna jump right in, take our lumps, and learn, learn, learn.

Coach list
Here is a list of entries so far.
Lynn Schmidt - Missouri Joe Schmidt - Missouri Doug Hendricks- California Tyler Davis -California Chris Flynt - Colorado - Jeff Bissonnetee- Colorado James Sledd - Kansas Jared Vonfeldt - Kansas Flynt Hendricks - Kansas David Foster - Kansas Geno Hendricks - Kansas Carl Coley - Oklahoma On the fence Jeff Shinn - Kansas Dad Shinn - Kansas Chris Nelson - Kansas Robert Thomas - Kansas Terry Redden - Nebraska Bill Brent - Kansas Lance Williams - Missouri Looks promising if we can nudge these guys off the fence it would be fantastic. I might add that some coaches are not sure due to thier lack of competitive play. Any encouragement from the MFCA member ship would be helpful.:D There are currently 6 new coaches so I feel this is a perfect tournament as alot of equally talented coaches have entered. Geno H |
Great fellowship
Any of you new coaches that are on the fence about joining this please let me tell you that Geno H. will make sure you are going to have a great time and everyone will help all of you newbies out. Please don't deprive yourself of the fun that brings out the kid in all of us because you are afraid of anything. You are in great hands with Geno as he will help you with bases and everything. If you are even considering getting back into electric football, do yourself a favor and just dive in and enjoy the ride. I've been playing competitively for threee years now, and I've found out that people in this hobby are so awesome when it comes to helping out the new coaches. You would be a fool not to let yourself be a kid again and enjoy this. Please get off the fence and just live a little. You deserve it. It will be the best decision you make. Don't ever forget to just have fun again, because I know I did that, and it was a miserable time just being an "adult".

Geno, Tyler's last name is Davis. He will be 13 in a couple of weeks and loves football. Looks like a nice group of guys. I talked to the motel lady Saturday and she is excited about us coming to town. My wife and daughters (including Tyler's mom) don't know what to think about going all the way to Kansas to play miniature football, but they know we will have fun if you are there.
Did you try one of the holders that I told you about? I have to get my digital camera out and take some good pics to post here so other guys can see what I am talking about. See you in a few weeks. Doug |
Geno, how are you coming on the rules for the Mid America Melee?? Looking forward to seeing them. Doug
|
Doug,
Doing the final editing. There wasnt a single document so i have had to attempt meshing the original rules with all of the changes we have made in 2008 & 2009 and a couple of twists specifically for the Tournament format. It has proven to be a HUGE task. Bear with me. Geno H |
Picture of easy player holder for painting

Guys, I was painting my first figures getting ready to go to the Mid America Melee and noted that I was having problems with touching the wet paint while holding the figure, and also that I was going to need some way to hold he figure while spraying with clear coat.
I came up with the following. Find a #6 round headed screw, 3/4" long. File one side flat to the shank of the screw. Then turn the screw and file a parallel flat on the other side. You now have a screw with a flat on 2 sides and a lip on the front and back. I used a 3" x 3" piece of white pine to mount the screw on. Your choice may vary. Use the rectangular opening in the base as shown in the picture of one of my throw back 1940 Raymond All Stars and you have an almost instant, but certainly cheap player holder. Hope it works for you. Doug |

New Football Field to be dedicated in Merced, California Friday Night
It is now official. The dedication ceremonies and the first public viewing of the Tyler Davis Stadium in Merced, Caliornia will be this Friday at 5:00 PM. The 620 Stadium has arrived in Dos Palos, and will be transported to Merced on Friday. No word on when the first game will be played, but it will be either the Merced Bears or the Dallas Cowboys against the Raymond Bulldogs.
Both teams will be making their electric football debut, as will Coach Tyler Davis, my soon to be 13 year old grandson. This will be my first electric football action since the sixties when I used to play an 8 man game because it was faster and fit the field better. Geno used to come over and watch us play. We never let him because he was "too little". Sure wish I still had that board and players. I did paint them into a KU team and I think an Oklahoma, but am not sure about the Oklahoma. (It was an UGLY paint job). Coach Davis doesn't know about the field or the team that he gets to paint as they are a birthday present from Grandpa. Cousin Geno has also sent some tweaked bases for both teams. The first thing we need to do is get our teams painted and decaled. I have been practicing decaling and I HATE DECALING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully we will get the teams done in time to do play some games before we come to Kansas. But you guys will be getting some fresh meat, grin. I have a set of passing sticks made for both of us. We are going to start that way and then work on learning how to pass with Geno's quaterback after we get back from Kansas. Hopefully I remember to take my camera to the official Tyler Davis Stadium opening on Friday and can post to the list what his reaction is. Can you guys tell that I am really excited about spending some quality time with my grandson??? Doug |

4 Attachment(s)
The Raymond Bulldogs will be playing their first game since 1956 when they appear in the first annual Mid America Melee at Lyons, Kansas on April 17th and 18th. I've been getting my team ready. Note that this is an all star team from 1940 - 1956. No face masks, and very simple uniforms. No shoulder numbers, no stripes. My first attempt at painting. Tyler and I will decal this week. Here are some pics.

The Raymond Bulldogs are comin' to town!!

The Raymond Bulldogs have been practicing hard, and have finally received their uniforms after a long wait. A 22 man traveling squad will be making the long trip from California to Kansas, and will be led by Quarterback Les Hendricks, Center Harry (Junior Hendricks) and running backs Merle Hendricks and Gary Milsap. Les Hendricks was Doug Hendricks father and was the first quarterback ever for the Raymond Bulldogs and Junior Hendricks was the father of MF legend Geno Hendricks.
