Finally working on a Bengals gameboard!

1 Attachment(s)
Guys,

You might find this amusing, but I don't even have my own custom board for my beloved BENGALS!!!! mgngcrz .

I have finally started working on a design and I would like some feedback.

Step one is the playing field... I am building an all time Bengals team modeled after their 80s uniforms. Here is a graphic based on the original "Jungle":fghttt: ... Riverfront stadium.

I tried to mimic the astroturf color and the old bengals script logo. I also placed the Cincy Reds baseball field in the exact location as the original. The bases and pitching mound were removable but the area around them was permanently stained from their dirt. Let me know what you think...

jeff 03-26-2010 04:23 PM

I am sure it is going to be well thought out and the quality is going to be in a league of it's own.
Can't wait to play on it this fall.
I also have some custom figures { e-gridiron } for you if you want to take a look at them.

Have you ever figured out how many hours you have in just building a custom board ? Frame and field only , no finishing touches.

Just a wood frame and field, ready to plug in and play, takes about 20 hours. A full custom with upholstery takes about 30 hours. ;)

Nice

Great stuff Roller. I always like the Bengals earlier uniforms better (the ones with the word Bengal on the side of the helmet). I believe those were from the '70's. I think they went to the tiger stripes in the early 80's.

Franny-j-boy 03-27-2010 05:33 AM

Love the 80's uniforms

But if i were you I'd scratch that stadium they had.In a perfect world those 80's Bengals should have played on this new stadium they have now that is awesome in every way. That old stadium was ugly and nasty, and i have talked to several bengal players that said they hated that field. Definately go with the 80's team, but with the new field. thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

Will you add some texture on the field too ?

steelerfan 03-27-2010 03:08 PM

I'm sure it will look great, Now we need to get you into the Mid-Ohio league and playing some games.thmbsp$ thmbsp$

The image doesn't show but the final product has a fine texture that looks like turf...

Coach thanks for everything you have shared with me in the board making process...

funny thing I too have been working on my new Cardinals field and ....it seems like a 4 month project for me and it's mines....man others 1-2 and they are gone...Roller is that called self neglect or over-outer commitment:eek: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

roller 04-01-2010 04:02 PM

Amen...

KC,

I really appreciate your thank you. And yes, I believe that it is over commitment!!!mgngcrz

Making good progress...

I've made good progress on my board... It's been tough to fit it in between all the boards I'm makingmgngcrz

The frame is complete and the surface is ready... I just need to add feet and electronics...

I'm also adding some newly designed player trays for this gameboard built out of PVC and styrene...

Frank Jacobs came up with this idea, and then I ran with it... Here is the design drawings of the top half of my beloved Riverfront stadium, represented as a player tray!!

Treks1 06-24-2010 11:30 AM

That's looking VERY, VERY good. A simple touch but man does it add some "WOW" appeal the the board. With your skills the details will be fantastic. Really looking forward to seeing the finished product! ppls$ ppls$ ppls$ ppls$

gridironpainter 06-24-2010 11:35 AM

Beautiful!

That board is going to be great looking. The white makes it contemporary and even elegant (in the art sense). The use of the stadium accents as the player trays is also a perfect use of design as function. Needless to say, I (we) are very impressed with your design skills AND ability to make them work.

I also just saw the subtle hint of the dirt staining on the field, that too is a very nice touch. I never knew the Reds played on turf. Grounders must be punishing on that field.

I can't wait to see the finished board.

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks everyone...

Thanks everyone, but I have to give credit for the idea to

Frank Jacobs aka Franny-j-boy.

We met up a few weeks ago, and he hit me with this idea... I just about fainted when he told me about it. I drew this up and asked Frank if this was what he was picturing in his head... He said I nailed it!

I have to give a huge thanks to Frank. He has given me so many ideas over the last couple of years... He is a huge asset to the hobby!!!frstplc frstplc frstplc

Wolf,

I actually use Google Sketchup to design all of my projects... It allows you to export everything into all kinds of formats... these being jpgs.

It is a FREE program available from google...
http://sketchup.google.com/

Download it and try it out... it's really a great way to "build" your projects and work thru all of your design issues before you ever even lift a finger...ppls$ ppls$ ppls$

the french guy 06-25-2010 08:51 AM

too bad sketchup is not available on linux. i'm already a big fan of open source software (gimp and inkscape). I designed my gameboard field graphics with that two softwares. thmbsp$

but the software is not everything, and Roller you're definitly an artist ppls$

That is sweet! I downloaded it right away...I had never heard of this before! Google is really kicking butt on some of these type things including other stuff like Google Docs. ( I love that program)

Did you need to purchase the license?

Franny-j-boy 06-25-2010 09:35 AM

Awesome work David

You really have went above and beyond what I expected. That player tray is going to be unreal and just adding a whole new dimention to gameboards in general. WOW!!!!! Sketchup

Wolf,

We use the "pro" licensed version here at work... it only has a few extra features that the freeware version does not...

Terrain modeling and something called a ruby console (which I have never used!)

I love free software, especially when it works as well as this!!
