Giants offensive squad, work in progress
5 Attachment(s)
Hi,
Today I started my new miniature football 4.0g offensive squad, New York Giants based 2010 roster. You already know the first figure of it (running back). The concept of that team is to change the figure brand (usually I use ff.net figs) : this time I will use mostly buzzball figs, with some excalibur, ff.net and bigmen bits also, and during the sculpting process, I'll try to make a more realistic look than my other teams (wich have more "super heroes" look and feel). Of course as usual, I'll make detailed muscles and faces too. I also choosed to make a dynamic look, typical "after snap" vision of the squad, to make a contrast with the static look of the stock figures. I'm also in recycling state of mind : most of the figures has been given by a good friend of mine, some were painted, or customized, I removed paint and re-cut more or less everything. Thanks to him thmbsp$ Here's the early stages of the customization process. So, for now, they looks like Frankeinstein monsters, made from diferent bits, without an overall homogeneity, but it's a part of the fun : making a good looking team from "garbage" figs and bits. Following the pics : -complete squad -quarterback -wide receivers, halfback, fullback -tight end -linemen to be continued... |
These are going to be special! thmbsp$ Franken-Giants!

aaaaaaaaaaawwww yeah, i cant wait to see these getting worked on.
DO THE WHITE JERSEYS :D |
Hey Dimitri,
What is your artistic opinion of the Excalibur figures? I think they are a good base to start with decent amount of detail, but the length of their arms seems way out of proportion to me. What do you think? |
GO BIG BLUE!
I am so excited to see your giants! (Eli looks a little tanned so far though ;) ) |

you're right. But you can "cheat" a little representing a big massive modern player, like a lineman or a tightend. See modern uniforms : the shoulder pads are tight, and quite high. You can sculpt the shoulder muscles out of the shoulder pads (like I did on the running back), and make his shoulders larger too : so the arms will look more proportionned, and the athlete will look like a really monster. IN fact, finally the arms will still a little too big, but depanding the athlete field position you choose, it can be a good point to make it look stronger, for example. On my particular project, it stills revelant, because that type of "steroidization" will remains to strongest athletes (linemen, te, fb, etc...). My goal is to make anatomic realism compared to the field positions. Thin receivers, strong but fast running back, powerfull linemen, dextrous QB, strong heavy tight end and fullback, etc... Concerning the overall aspect of excalibur figures, there is many good points : sculpted chinstraps and facemask attachs, detailed shoes and jersey, etc... on the face you barely just have to cut the helmet line to make a cool modern athlete head. |

Commendation
Dimitri,
I would personally like to thank you for your unselfish giving to our community. Your being so open and forward about sharing your sculpting expertise, step by step in pictures instructions, and willingness to contribute, not conceal new and innovative ways to make our players come to life. I noticed you asked a question that I felt should have been answered openly to you and was rejected. I want you to know that I personally admire the way you handled it and went on your way. Keep up the great work, and teaching, so that some of us can learn without going so deep into our pockets. Sincerely, Ken Allen |
Thank you a lot, Ken thmbsp$

I just took a closer look at the guys you are making. I am impressed with the mixing and matching of different figure types.
and what brand is the blue guy? |
I have no idea. :D
I believe it's a "pre-customized" modified figure. The pose is custom, a friend of mine (MFCA member) sent it to me (with a lot of other things) like that. thmbsp$ |

We live in a capitalist society, some people don't. My commendation to Dimitri was knowing and respecting the difference. Hope this clears up any confusion. This thread is about the Giants Dimitri is doing so I shall not respond any further as I look to enjoy this thread. As I enjoyed yours. |

Thanks for the comments thmbsp$
For information, I'm currently working on my own hands tutorial, I don't know if I 'll put it on mfca.org or on next Tweak issue....probably on MFCA.org, since I've got other projects for the tweak, but who knows if I 'll have enough spare time to do that... any way, here's a pic of the final result I obtain with my own technic, used on a small tudor fig (smaller than big men, HK I believe ? ) for the example. I tried to keep it simple, fast and technically affordable for any average MF modeller/customizer. thmbsp$ |
You know what . . .
Thanks! It looks great! ppls$ thmbsp$

Love that you will not do the Cowboys! ppls$ ppls$ ppls$

I'm back
Hi,
I'm back in miniature football modelling ! I want your advises on my offensive squad chart (I used the 2009-2010 depth chart), to know if I did any mistake (remember I'm french! :D ) QB : Eli Manning (#10) RB : Gatrell Johnson (#33...I know he's not the first RB, but the long hair fig I made looks cool :D ) FB : Madison Hedgecock (#39) LT : David Diehl (#66) LG : Rich Seubert (#69) C : Shaun O'Hara (#60) RG : Chirs Snee (#76) RT : Kareem McKenzie (#67) TE : Kevin Boss (#89) WR (L) : Hakeem Nicks (#88) WR (R) : Steve Smith (#12) I'm working on muscles and main body shape. New pics soon ! thanks |

Today I prepared the figures for sculpting, cutting anatomic defects, remove the fake facemasks, and re-shape things...
Now It's time for green stuff action :D |
yay more pics from the french guy!
I am a huge GIANTS fan.
your research looks good maybe include mario manningham in your receiving corps no Jacobs or Bradshaw at RB? interesting choice... ...just a details to add... Last season the giants got rid of the red insert at the collar of their jersey. make sure you get David Diehl's shield tattoo: http://croatia.org/crown/content_ima...l_grb2_640.jpg Nicks had some big games wearing white gloves last season: http://www.scoresreport.com/wp-conte...keem-Nicks.jpg Eli manning has Red bottoms on plain black shoes GO BIG BLUE!!! |
thanks for the advises ! I'll certainly include the athletes you're speaking about in my "option guys" later ;)

Quarterback

Hi,
Wainting for my decal paper to finish the RB, I'm working on the squad again. Here's the almost completed quarterback (I have to finish the face, helmet, one hand and legs) ;) this afternoon, I'll try to make the other skills players, or at least, go as far as possible in that job. |

I just received my decal paper, by the way thmbsp$ I need to fix the hand of the QB, now. |

Hi,
Here's some fixs on the Qb hand, sculpting top and rear hand sides, and cut the fingers. Tommorow or tonight after work, I'll do the final sanding on it (and other aspects of the fig like helmet, etc...). You can notice also that I didn't not sculpted the entire face. No need for that. I barely use the same technic I described for ff.net figures here : http://miniaturefootball.org/2010/08...etailed-faces/ and just sculpted the chin and helmet side hear protections. You can also notice that I let the arms with no detailed muscles (I'll just add a little sculpting effect on white arm). I wanted to make the QB less powerfull than a RB, for example. I'll add some painted details on it, it will be suficient. |
QB completed !
