Review of Available Custom Boards

Am looking at taking the plunge from the old Rose Bowl Miggle board to any of the custom boards out there. I specifically need a link (or reply) to either the 308 Gameboard (from footballfigure.net), RollerBoard, Monster Board.

I specifically need to know any personal experience with these boards (or others I am not aware of). Are there dead spots? Did the $ you spend seem to equal the quality? I am aware that these boards range from $400 to $1200and I will take that into consideration.

Were you pleased with the surface? Was it a sheet metal board or the new fiberplastic as advertised. Did any one of these boards have a feature you considered of paramount importance? Quietness of motor? Frame? etc.

Thanks for the replies, ladies and gentlemen.

Are you referring to the Field of Dreams Monster board?

RAGUKID 07-23-2010 07:37 PM

Yes but I am more interested in the 308 and Rollerboard. I will discuss this privately and thanks to everyone. This is a very helpfull group.

See link posted by Ragukid, the builder is Bill Porche and his boards are MOST EXCELLENT! I have one and I LOVE IT!

Bill Porshe makes those field and they run great , very fast.

The problem is getting one , I talked to Bill last year and he was doing some school and had no time at that point to make the boards
He may be free now I have not checked back with him.

I've actually not played on any of the boards you mention as of yet, although, one of our league mates has a rollerboard and I very much look forward to playing on it.

I play mostly in the south and play on a lot of locally built boards by Charles Lane from Tenn...I am not even sure he supplies boards via mail, etc. All of Charles' boards run nice and my teams "track" as they do on my 620.

Now, just to throw a another at ya, the best boards I have played on. ~1 1/2 years league play, have been Bruce Wattz painted fields power either by a Gotham or (2) Miggle/Tudor motors.

For me, I just find the painted surface is always a "tad" faster/smoother than any cover but I do have and enjoy both.

Hope that helps....

You get what you pay for... you wanna cut corners and getta cheap priced board that has dead spots? or play on a MONSTER BOARD that has NO DEAD SPOTS....
I was penny pinching when I just got back in this Hobby, and got stiffed, I was told the 620 was the biggest board out there when I was looking for the Rams VS Steelers SuperBowl Table top in the late 70's and gotta earlier table top no where near that size I was requesting..
So... yeah be aware...be very closely aware you could get stiffed...
I tried one more time to trust. Bill Porche came through telling me to do it his way and I couldn't go wrong. So, I got my ownself in believing I could build like he requested I do, and now i'm a serious monster board Fan like no other!!
Then only Flaw... is I can't find any more Rheostat's from the company that used to sale them.
I gotta lead in Colorado that another Coach found some, but hasn't finished making his Monster Board to tell me if it's good or not to use...
To Be Continued.. I bet if you built it, it would be even cheaper!? cutting out the middle man!!!.. thmbsp$ thmbsp$ Start trusting your self to produce a product you can be 100% proud of... it's always a chance you got it in you...ppls$ :fghttt: ppcrn frstplc Go MONSTER BOARD!!!hlmt$

AMEN!

I am building my first board using what Billy taught me and what Rick Garrison taught me, it is going to be sweet, but I bet as it sits right now 80%finished I have appx $300 in materials cost.

I see now where the Field of Dreams cost is where it is, I love my Field of Dreams but need a smaller field to haul to game day.

Check your PM IVSOPTIONS!

Aw there you go!? minimizing to get other games in against coaches who don't like wide fields? heh heh heh heh heh.. naw....I seen my pocket book go past my exspectations too, after I finally recieved an exspensive already done adhesive Field Cover from Coach B...
This was a sign. Just the field cover was over the top, and I still had to come up with all the other pieces..
I stayed on course even though it was looking too exspensive.. and turns out, it's not bad on materials. Now, the skills are blessed in me through these guy's to create another city of Football player's of EFL in my own Back yard..
that's the hard part....
Nobody, and I mean nobody Get's it here in OKC... I even made 17 QueCards for the beginner's so they can see where to line up during the huddle..
All I can tell you is.... I'm turning heads with these MONSTER BOARDS, and if I have to make one for someone.. well... the RHEOSTAT just made my price tag go down considerably if I can't purchase them....
I have a Alternate Route that's half of the MONSTER BOARD. with still plenty of smooth vibes 4 motor style, but , built on 2 " and 1 waiting on another piece of Metal " Air Hockey Boards..
I know some of you seen them back in the day when I was still learning to build boards...
Dude PM me for more Q and A's...

field choice

I have a few different types of fields.

1. Rollerboards- Made of fiberboard, runs great with one new motor and the teams control is great because of the fiber surface. Less sliding after you turn it off after a play and crisp snap response when you start it for a play.
The on/ off switch does not lock and be careful of the wires or you will be welding them together. Nice size field.
Fiber wood is no longer available and you will wait a year.

2. Wattz field- Made of metal and is hand painted. Runs with a old Gotham or miggle motors and is heavy duty. The high gloss finish allows for fast game play. The hand painted surface is beautiful and is my favorite field to use. Similar the Rollerboard in size.
The players will slide after you power off when a play is over.

3. FF.COM 308- Fiberboard, heavy duty and is easy to move around. The best motor system and you can order replacement covers. ( Don't be in a rush!) Shortest length of the three 38 1/2 but it is the widest field.

I have played on a roller board and owned a Watts board . Love the way they both play and the description above is accurate.
I currently own a 5- 13 board and love the stadium aspect of the board, it made of pvc plastic ......... I believe and the surface is hand painted.

There are a few other board makers on this site and I cannot recall all of there names.
Just look thru the photo gallery or league section and look at all the pics , find some you like and ask the owners of those boards all the question you might have .

Small correction...

Wayne,

Just a small correction... The board you have is made of PVC plastic and not fiberboard.

Just thought you would like to know.;)

I bought another older rollerboard

Hi David,

I bought another older fiberbaord Rollerboard and I have not used the new one I bought from you earlier this year. Only for practice.

RAGUKID 07-26-2010 05:03 PM

What have I got myself in to?

I had to laugh out loud on the last post. I started this thread and nowhere did I expect so much helpful information from "youse" guys.

A practice field? LOL

It never occured to me that ANYONE would have the $, drive, determination, or space (yes, I'm married) to even THINK of having a practice field for their guys.

You've got me thinking, gents. Perhaps one board isn't enough?

What have I gotten myself in to?

...But its a heck of a nice trip!

: )

Coach Rip 07-26-2010 05:13 PM

..........They wrote a song about it...

'What have I gotten myself in to?"
