right on the money
the jersey looks sweet

When you want to add dark tones on clear jerseys (in the hollows), you can use grey wash, but you can try other colors too.
Example : light blue on white jersey red on orange jersey orange on yellow jersey etc... to obtain a smooth finish, try to wash only the hollows, not the edges. You can also add an final highlightning touch on the edges : white on white jersey orange on red jersey yellow on yellow jersey white on grey jersey you can notice that the already light jerseys (yellow, white) don't really need highlights : just add a small painting effects on edges with the main color. you can also add a little black lining (ink or diluted paint) between diferent zones (jersey+pants, jersey+arms, etc...) you can also take a look on my skin paint tutorial here : http://miniaturefootball.org/2010/01...-step-by-step/ hope it helps |
Thanks Dimitri,
I have played around with a blue wash on the white jersey and it does look good, it makes the jersey look almost like a stone wash look and really makes the shades pop out. This one i used a grey tone wash and i like the subtle tones it gives, i get the shades, but its not over powering. i will post more pics as i do them... i am trying to do a whole team with these advanced techniques, but so far it has taken me about 5 hrs per figure to complete so at that rate it will take awhile to do a 40 man roster. |
after your grey wash, don't forget to add a little touch of white paint on the edges (and large aeras too) of the jersey ;)

Excellent!
You nailed it. Purple can be a tricky color, but you got it down. Using a different color for the wash does add a nice depth to the shadows.
The only thing I would push a little more is the hightlights on the skin. I just add a little caucasian tone to lighten darker tones for the hightlights. Just be sure that those stay only on the tops/highest areas of the details. Wait untill you paint a few more and see how your style really developes. I am anxious to see. By the way I still have to spend several hours on each figure. It just depends on if the detail is worth it for you. Personally I think it is thmbsp$ . |
thanks guys..
Thanks for the help with this paint style.
it does take along time to complete each figure, but the results are worth it. I will post more when i complete this team not fig by fig or this post will get way to long as i plan to do about 40 figures in home AND away uniforms...so thats 80 total. (alot of work..  ) Again thanks for the help, keep you eyes out for the new team. |
