New project : Redskins stars

Hi,

Today I'll present a side project I have (another one :D ), 4 figures I'm doing for an american friend (I'll let him present himself if he want to :D ).

That project is quite original, since I'll detail some standard figs instead of custom poses. My friend wants to keep the figures their classic eficiency on the field.

It's also the first time I'll make some "short" figures.

So these figures will have all the fancy effects (muscles, hands, jerseys, faces, helmets, etc...) but with standard "classic" pose. Modern old school looking :rtfl:

Finally, the figures will be resculpted and just undercoated with a primer. I will not paint these figures  :D

Pictures soon ! I need to relaunch the computer first :D

Here's some pics.

I started stripping the old paint, and correcting the main defects with a xacto knife.

I also started to prepare the helmets for face sculpting.

the figures went into a alcohol bath too (pic4). One of them (third pic) will swim into next night. :D

To be continued !

WEIRDWOLF 09-18-2010 05:13 PM

Is that a Mouton Rothschild 1945 or a Romanée Conti that you are soaking them in? :D

the french guy 09-18-2010 05:42 PM

No...just good old workshop pure alcohol I'm using since years, wich became red I don't know why :D Perhaps the athletes are bleeding ? WHo knows ? :D

By the way, I drink just ordinary wine...but on each meal of the day, and sometimes on breakfast too (especially on fishing : cheese, ham, paté, etc...). That's the real french way to do :D

Good wines are for special days (friends diner, birthdays)

Really good wine (nothing as good as what you're speaking about) are for christmas and new year event :D (in my house, at least).

preparation

Hi,

this morning I prepared the figures for sculpting. Preparation is a very important step in advanced customizing.

I roughly fixed some anatomic defects, removed helmets edges, back, etc... and made a first rought sculpting with xacto knife.

Then, I sanded all the figure, to have a nice and clean base to work with.

Some of us can think that it's a lack of time : but finally, it's a gain of time and make the work easier. It will also bring a little extra touch to the final figure, not really noticeable as an individual thing, but important in the whole project.

Like a well painted and flocked plateform on a finished painted figure.

Training hard

5 Attachment(s)
Hi,

This afternoon I sculpted the first figure.

The athlete worked hard with him new personal coach (see first pic) :rtfl:

Now, he need some facial plastic surgery, and hands (hands are, as I heard, quite important for football). I will also fix little defects once the figure will be dry.

The basic figure inspired me a powerfull defensive player. Maybe a big middle linebacker. Working on stock figs is interesting.

Here's the pics.

WEIRDWOLF 09-19-2010 09:58 AM

Does the personal trainer work for hire? He looks like he has an effective approach! :D I could use someone like that for my team and a female version for myself.

the french guy 09-19-2010 10:00 AM

It's a new 100% natural approach of training. No pills, no needles. Just hard (I mean, HARD) motivation. :D

I don't know if he will be for hire until a long period. Here in france we need him heavily these days :rtfl:

Enough for today

progress

Progressing is slower, but I worked a little on the figures.

I added the last helmet details, and also added a hand on the runner (or to be more specific, the beginning of the hand). It will be used as a support for the fingers.

Next step : friday or tommorow night. I'll finish the hands (and the 2 first figures) this week, so I can make the same schedule for the 2 last ones (big work on sunday, and little additions during the week).

CowboyMike 09-22-2010 09:13 AM

looking good

Here's the hands.

Of course the "freddy krugger" style will disapear tommorow, once it will be dry.

I'm particulary happy with the strong-style figure...Perhaps I should keep that fig for myself  :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

last sculpting

2 Attachment(s)
Hi,

this morning I added the last sculpting effects on the figures : the hand palms.

THis afternoon, I'll cut and sand the fingers, and the 2 first figures will be completed.

Now I'm working on the 2 other ones.

the french guy 09-26-2010 05:51 AM

Next figure

5 Attachment(s)
I Started to work on the third figure, a thin model.

I wanted to keep it thin and looking fast, this short figure is not a good candidate for hard muscles, or it will looks like a pitbull or something like that :D

So I tried to keep that modern and tight look we can see on WRs, for example.

Here's the first pics of it.

the french guy 09-26-2010 06:46 AM

figure almost completed

I need to make the hands, and it will be finished.

(PS : last updates on the 2 first figures are on topic's page 2)

Last figure

I call it the "running back star" style. Dread locks, strong, tight jersey, eyeshield...For me it's the typical modern football athlete.

Now the 4 figures are drying. I'll finish (hands, mostly) them during the week, and paint a primer coating on it to fix the last defects and make the figures ready to paint.

Then they will fly to their next owner and coach. :D

the 2 first figures are completed. Now I'll wash and polish them, then I'll put a primer coat on it.

WEIRDWOLF 09-28-2010 08:55 AM

When you say polish, are you rubbing them with something?

NEW CASTLE HiTMEN 09-28-2010 10:38 AM

AWSOME!!!!

Exactly. I wrote that post fast before going to work, now I can explain.

In fact, I wash the figure with clear water and soap.

Once it's done, I put a coat of acrylic primer (spray can). Then, once it'sd dry, I sand the major defects (but it never happens of course :rtfl: ), then I took an old tooth brush and some cheap toothpaste (white stuff, the cheaper the better).

Then, I rub the DRY toothbrush with some cheap toothpaste on the figure. I do it gently, but consistantly.

THen, I wash the figure again. It helps a LOT to have a nice figure surface.

In miniatures painting, there is 2 MAJOR things people forget about to obtain nice result : making a well finished good looking base (plateform), and be carefull on painting preparation.

Lindyhopper49 09-28-2010 06:00 PM

REDSKINS?

what happened to Big Blue? I was so excited to see you develop an AWESOME giants team... and now you start a divisional rival? :rnt; :rnt; :rnt; :rnt;
:rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

they look good though... And your giants will need someone to kick around wnnrcgr

but lets see some more G-MEN!

the french guy 09-29-2010 04:09 AM

the figures are not for me :D

the big blue are progressing : I finished to sculpt the QB, and I'm actually working on the decals.

But I've got other priority for now : tweaking bases for my steers squad and my niners defensive squad ;)

this is the hands, my only friend, the hands

Here's a little pic of the last steps on the figures. I added the rough hands and clothe on the RB.

The figures will be finished tommorow. And then fly to USA...

the figures are completed, I have to make a picture of it tonight. Tommorow morning , I'll undercoat them. ;)

here's a pic of the 2 last figures completed and the 4 figs set too.

I can't wait to put the primer on them. It's the stage I prefer, because the figure stops to be an amount of green stuff and bits of this or that, and become a "unity".

the french guy 10-05-2010 05:07 AM

figures completed and ready to paint

Hi,

the figures are almost completed. Just have to polish a little bit with tooth paste and fix little defects, but they're 99% finished.

Here's some pics !
