It was a night to remember as the Charlotte Electric Football League opened it's 30th. year of play with very special guest Joe Greco in attendance.Joe had business in Buffalo and made the hour and twenty minute drive into Rochester
to join us.His visit added even more excitement to an evening that went by all too fast.Joe is not only a great guy but he is a terrific ambassador for the game and hobby. The entire league joins with me in a huge round of applause and thank you to Joe for taking the time to be with us on this memorable night. John DiCarlo (Larue) CEFL Commissioner |

Larue has one of if not the longest running leagues in the US. I can't wait to visit with Joe one on one about his experience there. I know he was very excited about the visit which he expressed in the marketing committee meeting last night. Can't wait to hear more Joe!

I got back from Buffalo late last night. I just wanted to say Thank You to John DiCarlo (Larue) and all the members of the Charlotte Electric Football league for the tremendous hospitality they showed me and for the wonderful gift box that they sent me home with (figures, bases, footballs, a NY Giants mug).
I was ecstatic that my work travel schedule just so happened to have me up in your neck of the woods to be able to come for the opening night of your 30th year - what an achievement. For anyone who has the opportunity to be in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area I would strongly suggest you take a side trip to Rochester for a visit to the Subterranean Stadium - it is like visiting an Electric Football Hall of Fame. On display are all varieties of teams, figures, bases and other electric football memorabilia. One of the boards actually has a working miniature Goodyear blimp overhead. The league's proud heritage is also on display with a wall of past Champions and CEFL Hall of Famers. A board with the night's matchups, another board with the league's standings and large game clocks and scoreboards add to the overall experience. While soaking up the atmosphere you almost forget that there are league games being played. Having been around for 30 years there is great camraderie and fellowship as well as a lot of good old fashioned ribbing going on. There was also some great electric football being played in a unique style that I found to be really enjoyable to play. And isn't that what this is supposed to be all about? I was able to get off a few pictures before the battery in my camaera unfortunately died. Once again I would like to say thank you to John and all the CEFL members for welcoming me into your home and making me feel right at home. It was an experience that I will never forget. Joe G |
Man oh Man!
Seeing all those rookie bases reminds me of when we had our leagues going strong all over the city in the 70's and early eighties until people came along and ruined it with money/greed.
Thanks for the memories and being able to see that the game is being played, in earnest, like it's supposed to played. We definitely need more of these "grass roots" settings to bring back the hobby. Joe G, you are a great asset and ambassador to the hobby. Awesome Gentlemen! Got me thinking of doing the same type of thing. Again. thmbsp$ |
John DiCarlo and Joe Greco
It was inevitable these two would get together. Everybody knows about Greco. He's just absolutely one of the greatest ambassadors this game will ever see but John DiCarlo is equally as great!
LaRue has always been one of my biggest supporters and just a great supporter of the game. He's been doing his thing for so many years. Sometimes, LaRue would just call me and encourage me, inspire me, and let me know, my work was well appreciated. He never knows how much his "ambassadorship" is of great help and comfort. I wish I could someday go to his neck of the woods and just fellowship in what they do. We could all learn from guys like LaRue and Greco alike. Reg |
Awesome...
what a great place to get together and play - thanks for sharing pictures Joe and congratulations once again to Larue and the CEFL coaches for keeping it rolling! ltsplbll $cch$ hlmt$ ftbll$

Thanks for posting the extra posts, Joe.
How do they get their games done in an hour and 45 minutes? Is their rule-set posted in the forums? Would be curious to hear how many plays they usually get in a game in a hour and 45 minutes |
Great pictures, Joe. Glad you posted them, really adds to the experience.
That's a great setup. Our Maryland Subbuteo Club has something similar, where the other club co-founder cleared out his good-sized garage, set up tables, put up his whole collection and that's where we played every week for many years. He called it "The Shrine," and even has a large green wood board where everyone who plays there signs in silver Sharpie. I was proud to sign it first. I think the home of the CEFL should be the miniature football version of The Shrine. Great stuff. Ed wnnrcgr shkthbx: |
Kool!
Great stuff guys! ppls$thmbsp$
This story and these pics should be on the MFCA Homepage. :D |

Larue would be best to answer the question as to the number of plays per game.
If I remember correctly, they use a 35 minute running clock for each half. When the 35 minute clock expires they then run 5 additional plays. All of the coaches set up very quickly and once the offense and defense are set there are no additional adjustments made at any time. This eliminates a lot of the time that it takes to run each play. As far as I could see they get in lots of plays in a short amount of time. Joe G |
30 YRS AND COUNTING
I SALUTE YOU ALL IN CONN.

Plays per half
What Joe says in his post is correct,we play two 35 minute halves followed by 5 untimed plays (there are no time outs),There are no adjustments made by ether player after the switch is turned on what you see is what you get.
We do not have kickoffs you start at the 20...we found kickoffs where too hard to defend against no matter how you played (one second rule ect). We get plenty of plays in per half (at least 20) sometimes more. We have a 1 minute rule (both offense and defense have 30 seconds to set up) so our games move along. We like all other leagues have our own Bible and we feel ours has served us well for 30 years.I guess what really counts is how much fun you have playing and our rules are simple yet fun. I also think that a national set of rules would be a great thing for the game, maybe each league could contribute some of their rule ideas to form the "New Testament of Electric Football". Once again a big time thanks to Joe Greco for stopping by,we loved having him it's something there should be a lot more of.Our league has an open invitation to all MFCA members and I'm sure the rest of the leagues do too so if you get a chance to drop in on any of us do so....you'll find it to be a great time as will the members, it is what we are about! Keep playing Keep Teaching Larue |
If you want to know more about Larue's league and his miniature football room, there is a great article in Tweak magazine winter issue 2007 thmbsp$
