Lavelle Shelton asked me to post some pics on here of some classic Notre Dame football. He is creating a team to take on my 1945 Army team.

BigFranco and Lavell,
Here's a picture that I took of the 4-Horsemen, while visiting the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Peace, Don |
No wonder that 1946 game was scoreless. They couldn't tell who was who!

Thanks brother.
Well, my 1945 Army team is all but done. I've got a couple of helmet and sleeve stripe decals that I need to put on them, that Beenutt has for me, but all in all 22 are done. I'll get up to Beenutt's soon and have him photograph them with his special technique for me so I can post them in my Army thread here. I think everyone will be surprised at how cool they came out. I cant thank Joel Pritchard, Lavelle Shelton, and Larry Fryer enough for their painting help. They walked me through a lot of the how to do's. I used their tips and I think I kind of came up with a unique old school flat brush shading technique. I'm anxious to post the painting and see what everyone thinks. It also doesn't hurt when you are starting out with custom Chris Fields figures. I have also copied a lot for the styles that I have seen on here. Mostly, YOURS, Reggie. I love the "McFarlane" style that you paint your custom figures with. And I hope you will be impressed with my art. You inspire me. In this thread, my main objective is, I am trying to help Lavelle Shelton with his current project. As you know he is currently working on an old timer Notre Dame team to play against me. He is such a special person. Once he saw my team he said he just had to create a special Notre Dame team to play against me. Lavelle has a way of making you feel really good about yourself. I know a lot of you know what I am talking about. To see my work, and then tell me to my face, that my painting, has inspired him to make a team to play against them? Talk about humbling and incredibly flattering? I'm just trying to give him a little bit back here. I know he has limited PC Internet access. I would love it if someone like you, Reggie, offered mass produced 1940's style figures. Although I dont know how much of a market there would be for figures like that? I would sure scoop them up. Chris Fields, of course, has been doing awesome custom work for me so far. My first 22 Army figures are completed so I can take the field in our Dixie league. Chris Fields is now working on an additional 16 players for me for that Army squad. For Dixie competitive league play we are allowed 36 figures, so I'm going to get the extra players so I've got a full roster to work with. Who knows, I might eventually start making a teams of each of the great NCAA champions of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. I hope Chris Fields enjoys working on these figures for me. I'm not sure he is aware of my master plan. ;) ESPN had a TOP TEN list of the Best College Football teams of all-time recently. Old time teams on that list are: # 4. Army 1945 # 6. Michigan 1947 # 7. Notre Dame 1947 # 8. Oklahoma 1956 Also receiving votes in that poll but not making the top ten were: USC 1932 Minnesota 1940 TCU 1938 - Its a lot of fun doing the research on teams like my 1945 Army team. Who knows...I might try and tackle a 1947 Michigan team once my Army team gets done. And slowly, lovingly, work my way down this list here. Assuming Chris Fields is willing to keep making these old time figures for me, this is my tentative plan. - As a matter of fact, I'll probably start posting 1947 Michigan stuff in a new thread. That will start to get me fired up. $cch$ |
Great work
Keep up the great work. Maybe I'll post a picture when I played there in the late 80's.
