Tips on hollowing out FF.com figs help needed
 

Customizers ok the figs i got, have to hit a quick diet to make weight for the Brawl I got enough lite platforms for the transplants of the figs. any tips on hollowing out the torso, what dremmel bit best fits the task.

Here is the type of dremel bit I use either the cone shape or the bud shape close to this size works great with FF.com figures.

I just used either a battery dremmel or regular dremmel. They both worked great. The key for me was to dremmel kinda slow to medium at first and it will create a nice little hole. I find Reggie's figures very easy to dremmel. I cut off the arms and head as well and hollow out as much as I can from the torso. I also had to hollow out some of the legs as well on some of his big guys to get them down to 2.0. No matter what even when I put a hole through the other side sometimes I just used a little apoxy sculp to patch it up. You really can't go wrong. Good luck and I hope this helps.

The ff.com platforms ALL weigh-in at .08 grams!!! That will get every figure to 2.0 or less, but without a replacement platform. So, either "GUT 'EM LIKE A PIG!!!" or "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!" or "MAKE THEM WALK THE (SANDPAPER) PLANK!!!"

Option 1: The EASIEST and least insulting way to drop weight is to swap out platforms or shave the platform down on course sandpaper until you reach the desired unpimped figure weight of 1.7 grams. If the figure weight minus .08g platform weight is still greater than 1.7g, skip to Option 2 or 3. If the figure minus .08g plus the new replacement platform is equal to 1.7g, then you're good. Proceed with pimpin' that figure out!!

Option 2: Chop their heads off and using a 5/16" drill bit, drill straight down and pull out a 1/4" deep plug; then angle the drill left using the same hole at the neck; and again at a right angle. You should set your bit length from neck to jock so that you don't make the mini-men into mini-WOmen!!! Madame Butterfly anyone??? Put all the pieces on a scale and see where you are. If there's only .01-.03 grams to "shave" then use the sandpaper as described in Option 1.

Option 3: Gut E'm!!! Chop 'em at their waist and hollow out both halves until they add up to 1.7 grams.

Reattach ALL options using a super or krazy glue - which may add back a lil weight, that's why I chop down to 1.7g. ppls$ thmbsp$ ppls$

Thank Guys I kinda thought the Same as both you guys on the bit, and drilling spots, Geno Ill hit ya at 8 pm if thats cool.

I've found that yougurt and fruit in the morning followed by a lunch of cheerios with soy milk and a chicken salad for dinner really takes the weight off and keeps the cholesterol low. Just look at the before and after on my FF.com fig. :D

I know, I know...I'm really not any help....hey it's Friday!

these rules just really aren't too inclusive to allow FF.com figures. I have light weight platforms that weigh 0.4 instead of the current 0.8, but still 2.0 is REALLY hard for the FF.com figures. Hollowing out these figures :confused:, now that just seems over the top and eliminating platforms and simply gluing them to bases to make them 2.0 is not how I would create a premium team that I would like to showcase.

I think IF the maker of ff.coms can do it, both in 2006 and 2007, AND finish as the #1 and #2 seeds, respectively, then IF you really, absolutely had to use them you could.

The other side of the coin would be to jack-up the weight to 4.0 and make the other 98% of the guys add weight to compete with the 2 guys that want to use ff.coms. IMHO because of all the work involved, my 3.2 Haiti Repro/Buzzballs have served me well the last 2 years and will do so for a 3rd time.

Its not about needing these figures, its about WANTING to use these figures. By the way I never said 4.0, how about "3.3-3.6 max TOTAL weight" that would do the trick to be all inclusive. I didn't know the Virginia guys or anyone else OTHER THEN ME would want to use FF.com figures. Did you put that to a vote or poll or something?

If this helps i have found that all i needed to do to make MOST of the FF.COM figs meet weight is to remove them from the platforms they come with....cut some plastic platforms from the clear plastic that comes with the bases we all know and love (which helps recycle the plastic in a usefull way) glue them to the plastic and paint it up...you cant tell the difference when finnished.

Considering the 2-Time, 2-Time WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE GALAXY doesn't use them, I'd concur with you by not needing to use them for any kind of an edge, but just wanting to use them because they look sweet tricked out. IMO, I would think the 1.7g-1.8g figures would need to be "gutted" or "beheaded." The 1.6g figs would have to be modestly tricked out, so I would prolly gutt them as well just to be safe. Lastly, the 1.4-1.5 figs just need new "platforms".

The only thing I will add to simply cutting the platform off and gluing it to a lighter platform is that I chose hollowing out so that I did not change the positioning of the figure on the platform. Reginald will tell you he placed the figures on the platform to do a specific job. I want to pay respect to him and leave that alone and play his figure at a 3.2 format. Hollowing the figure isnt hard by any stretch of the imagination. Its simple.

Taking weight off of your figures without removing the platform is easy as pie. (wishing we had a pie icon)

Back in 2006 before the Brawl... Reggie contacted me about playing and wanting to use his figures which (by the way) were allowed. He just didn't want to have to shave them down just to make weight. I told him that I have a FF.com team that weighs 3.2 and that no shaving was required. I explained to Reg that all he had to do was decapitate the heads, use dremel bits: 105, 107, or 110. Drill straight down (from the neck) to the pit of the stomach, and slowly make circular or side-to-side motions, pull out the dremel, turn the figure over and dump out the plastic. Once figure is at desired weight, than use a piece of plastic to peg his head back on the neck. Glue and let dry. Reg said it was so easy that he couldn't believe that he didn't think of it before. Reg's FF.com Brawl squad passed team inspections with ease. He only had a couple of figures at 3.2, most of his squad weighed in at 3.0 & 3.1 grams. By removing the excess plastic via the neck and choosing not to remove the platforms, the integrity and positioning of his figures were maintained and never compromised.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on taking down the FF.com figures to 2.0 limit. I tried using the dremel tool before but it was real a pain so I stopped. I think the key is to use the right tool (drill bit) to do the job and now seeing that you guys have done it I will give it another effort. Isn't this chat board great for stuff like this thmbsp$

Don, thanks for taking the time to both give detailed techniques for how you were able to accomplish this and also for calling me and going the extra nine yards to make sure I felt satisfied and on the right path with my team. I really didn't mean to make it sound like I was somehow upset or anything. Quite the opposite, its just that I have a team that is able to be 3.2-3.3 (total figure + bases) and I was suprised to find that they would not be able to play because of the STRICT 2.0 max figure limit. I was honestly suprised at the level of concern with this kind of detailed rules restriction (I'm not exactly tournament savy) and the level of concern for cheating. I incorrectly assumed 3.2 instead of 2.0 figure and specific base weight limits. I look forward to building my SWB team and I thank you greatly for your help in giving your time in helping me achieve this.

Thanks for the kind words. I had a great time speaking with you about your customizations. I didn't take anything the wrong way during our conversation my friend. I understood that you had some questions about why things are the way they are, concerning weight limits throughout our hobby. I just hope that I was able to clear some of it up for you. As I stated on the phone... you weren't the first person to ask these questions and you won't be the last.
