Sweetness!!!

I was watching the NFL network and they were doing a program on the best runningbacks and while I didin't see the whole show I got to see three of the best - OJ Simpson, Gayle Sayers and my all time favorite Walter Payton. I got to re-live some of his runs and it brought back so many memories. I know that everyone has their opinion on who the best one was: Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Sayers, OJ and while I loved to watch them go ( the ones that I was old enough to see ) my money will always be on Mr Payton. I can remember him running over like 9 Chiefs ( sorry Wolf ) , Lions, and Saints on the same play.. thmbsp$ :D you know what I am talking about. This quote from the only cryboy I respected, Tom Landry, " He is the best running back to ever play the game". WOW! Very high praise from an awesome coach. RIP Sweetness and thanks for the memories.

Coach_J 04-30-2008 02:18 PM

To begin with thank goodness for the NFL Network. I think I would go crazy when it is not football season if it were not for the NFL Network. Yes I have seen that program on the NFL Network. It brings back memories of those great running backs and there great running style. I have my own opinion of who I think is #1 but Walter Payton definitely ranks high among the great RB's of all time. Not just great RB's but he would be in the top 10 of the greatest NFL players of all time. Walter Payton not only was a great RB but had a lot of class on and off the field. I am only disappointed that he was not given the chance to score a TD in Super Bowl XX. Have a good day and thanks for sharing.

It's The Greatest

NFL Network is the greatest network ever. It keeps me up to date about all things NFL. Here in Baltimore County, it comes as part of a sports package. Sometimes they show high school football games. I get the opportunity to see football talent around the country.

The running back that the network doesn't show much of is Tony Dorsett. Although I am not a Cowboy fan, I still enjoyed watching him play. He was a beautiful runner.

I was really blown away when I ready about Barry Sanders retiring before breaking Payton's record, how humble, that's class, baby!

Love sweetness but...

I have believed for a long time that Walter was on the juice, and that may have led to his becoming ill at such a young age. As far as the best of all-time, I think you have to break it down into catagories.

1. Best---OJ Simpson--best pure runner I ever saw.

2. Best small back--Tony Dorsett--fastest ever and never took a big hit.

3. Most versatile--Marcus Allen--could run, catch, block, and throw.

4. Most productive--Emmitt Smith--just look at the numbers back to high school.

5. Most powerful--Earl Campbell---just ask Jack Tatum

TVsCHACHI 04-30-2008 05:27 PM

That's a terribly prophetic theory,

it breaks the heart, and what's to come?

Look at Baseball, a terrible farce.

Crap.

Norbert Revels 04-30-2008 05:34 PM

Hey Chachi

About 5 years ago I was at Mcdonalds here having a healthy meal, LOL, and who walks in, Barry Sanders, no gold everywhere, didn't have 10 guys around him, cat had on a t-shirt and some shorts, he was driving a tahoe blazer, I didn't bother him while he was eating, but soon as that cat finished and headed to his truck, I talked with him for a few minutes, the guy has more class then alot of these cats playing, Payton was his idle, he worshipped the ground he walked on, some knuckleheads really don't know the whole story as to why he retired, only what they see and hear on T.V., if the guy would have played as long as some other backs, imagine how many yards he would have had.

TVsCHACHI 04-30-2008 05:52 PM

How Sweet It Is.

And why not be down to earth, just another person? Some cats want to live so BIG.

Roethlisberger is a great quarterback but could use a little dose of maturity off the field. He's known to be a conceited person, very full of himself. While Troy on the other hand is very humble. He was at a restaurant with his wife, Theodora, numerous sources confirmed this on PGH Sports radio, and after eating thanked the respectful patrons for not bothering them, he not only signed autographs for everyone, he also picked up the entire tab of the restaurant.

One Hand
Barry Sanders

Other Hand
Pacman Jones

what's up with that?

WallyJ 05-01-2008 10:53 AM

dallcow4life28,

"I have believed for a long time that Walter was on the juice, and that may have led to his becoming ill at such a young age."

That is a pretty irresponsible statment... What facts support this?

Wally

sweetka 05-01-2008 11:10 AM

Barry

Was undoubtedly the best pure running back there ever will be. Take away the offensive line from any back listed in your top ten and then see if they get the yards that Barry did. He had no offensive line blocking after Utley became parylized and Eric Andolsek got killed in the same off season. Barry also took himself out of the game instead of rushing one more time as a rookie which would have allowed him to pass the "Nigerian Nightmare" Christian Okoye for the NFL rushing title.

Here is my favorites

1. Jim Brown
2. Barry Sanders
3. Da Juice
4. Walter Payton
5. Eric Dickerson

That's just who I like to watch.

Hey Norb, Barry and Herman Moore used to go up to, of all places, Palmer Park at the break of dawn on Saturday mornings with some other former players, shoot some hoops, fellowship and be gone. If you ever see that guy jump you wouldn't believe it, and that was after he quit. I wonder if they still do that?

Wally this is not something that just came to me since the recent steroid scandals. It is just my opinion--one that I had back when Walter was still playing. If you ever saw some of his workouts--it was the classic workout of a steroid user--and I have known some in my life! They never get tired. Also the whites of his eyes were always yellowish, which is the most tell-tale sign. Back in the '70's and early '80's, steroid use was unchecked, and rampant in the league. Just ask Mike Webster, or Steve Courson, or Lyle Alzado--oh I forgot--they're all dead.

Wally, sounds like you believe that Clemens never used, and did not have sex with a 15 year old. You probably believe there are WMD's in Iraq, too, and that Bush is just stupid and not murderous and that we don't torture.

WallyJ 05-01-2008 05:17 PM

dallcow4life28,

You know as well as I do that Roger Clemens is guilty... that's because there is evidence.

Evidently you were very close to Walter Payton and got to see the yellow in his eyes. By the way, that is not a method of testing for steroids.

You also mentioned about the workouts that Walter did... those are standard today. Back in the 80's, those workouts were ahead of their time. Maybe you should throw Jerry Rice under the bus as well. He was a workout king as well.

Keep the discussion to football.

Wally

dallcow4life28 05-01-2008 06:20 PM

Under the Bus

How am I throwing anyone under the bus? This forum will not be broadcast to the public airwaves--it is a discussion board. I have a right to my opinion, as do you. Are you a spokesman for the Payton family or something? Sounds like you just want something to beef about.

WallyJ 05-02-2008 08:52 AM

dallcow4life28,

This is just a lively discussion, don't take it to heart.

Wally

dallcow4life28 05-02-2008 11:11 AM

The only record that you need to be concerned with is head to head in superbowl and by my count the cryboys are down 2-1 to my Steelers. :D

Hey Lee,
Chill Bro.....see I Said The Same Thing And You Didn't Come At Me That Way On The Other Thread...read The Thread Bro..... Man We Can't Even Have A Regular Discussion .....did You Ask The Reason Why He Quit? Maybe It Had Nothing To Do With Losing?

WallyJ 05-05-2008 09:09 AM

Lee,

I came at you? Read the post, you jumped in and jumped on me my friend.

Also please get your facts straight. I only played one game in the NYEFL, which I won. I also sent everyone I scrimmaged home with their tail between their legs.

I missed two play dates because the commisioner of your league at the time, tells me three days before we are supposed to play. After asking him multiple times to get a schedlule and publish it. Then I get a call from "Air" telling me I'm out of the league. Because I missed two meetings? Sounds like someone their didn't want me playing in the NYEFL.

So let's net this out... your upset with me because when we started the BAMFL we did not want to merge with the NYEFL. We chose to go in another direction with an established set of rules. It's as simple as that... you are the one that has taken it to heart. We (Morgan, Dre and I) IN the BAMFL have opened the doors and would welcome anyone from the NYEFL if they wish to join our league.

Wally

Hey Wally ...

Asking Dawg, What's Up With A Rock He Threw, Was Not Jumping On Him. He's A Grown Man, He Knew He Was Igniting Some Dynamite With That Cryboy Talk ( By The Way Dawg, Only Cryboy, I Ever Saw Was Swann In The 79 Sb after he got hit). And Also Dawg It's 2 (70's And 90's) To 1 (70's) In Decades Of Domination, Let Me Know When Yall Top That...

Back To You Wally: I Don't Think He Needed Any Help, You Just Wanted To Be Funny And Jump On The Bandwagon. And I Don't really Care Why You Quit Our League Or The Bam's direction. I embraced and supported yall since day one. But let's not forget You were the one WHINNING AND CRYING About My Metal Qb When I Was About To Join, BAM (I wonder why? FALSHBACKS MAYBE??). So Go Head With that foolishness, The Point Is This, If You make a Negative comment towards a man Without Knowing Him, Your Going To Get A Response From That Man. I Was Talking About Football, And You Jumped In And Directed Your Comment To Me, Period!!

And Mo, It's A Different Situation, We've Established A Friendship, So We Can Go There A Little. But Your Partner Doesn't Know Me Like That. Check the thread, he rubbed DALLCOW the wrong way too, he gets a little too personal with his comments..

And Truthfully, We NEED To Be Mindful Of The, comments (which are a lot times Insults) And Trash Talk We Throw Around, Because Everybody Doesn't know Each Other Personally. Fact is Everybody Isn't From The Suburbs, And Everybody Doesn't take Kindly To insults or personalized trash talk. I Mean If You Want Trash Talk About Each Other Teams I'm All In, But It Becomes Personal When You Direct It Me.

But I'm Cool, Wally Give Me A Call So We Can Put This Past Us Even
Further... Mo, i need you to call me too, i lost your number...

I Apologize To All My Fellow Coaches, and the MF NATION (Except You Cowboy Haters)

P.S. FELLOW COWBOYS FANS PM ME YOUR FEEDBACK ON THIS INCIDENT....

WallyJ 05-06-2008 09:56 AM

DOOMSDAY78,

We are good, I'll give you a call tonight.

I wasn't taking a shot at your metal QB... I was referencing TO (Terrel Owens) in the post game interview in the Cowboys lose to the Giants.

Nothing personal here just a good Steeler-cryboy talk all in fun. I don't think that the decades of domination mean anything if you don't have the bling to show for it. ;) Steelers got 5 - Cryboys got 5 ( although it took them longer to get them ).......failing to see the domination here

Bigdawg And Wally

WALLY, I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR WERE REFERRING TO, AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO. REMEMBER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ME USING A METAL QB WHEN I WAS JOINING THE BAM..TALK TO MO IF YOU DON'T REMEMBER, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY IT'S SQUASHED, TAKE CARE, HOPE TO SEE YOU SOMETIME..

NOW BACK TO YOU BIGDAWG: WE GOT THE BLING 5 RINGS, BEFORE YALL DID, AND WE WERE IN 5 SB'S BEFORE YALL WON 4...

AND IT TOOK US FROM 1979 TO 1992 TO WIN ANOTHER 1, THEN WE HAD 5 BY 1995, SO THAT'S 13 YEARS FOR OUR 3RD RING, AND 16 YEARS FOR OUR 5TH....NOT TO MENTION (8) CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES, AND THE MOST SB APPEARANCES 8 IN NFL HISTORY, TO GO WITH THE BLING!!!frstplc frstplc................ frstplc frstplc frstplc

BUT IT TOOK YALL FROM 1980 TO 2005 TO WIN ANOTHER ONE TO GIVE YALL 5 RINGS..THAT'S 25 YEARS POTNA!!![/Bfrstplc frstplc frstplc frstplc ..............................frstplc

CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE, SQUEALER FAN???

"]SO WHO'S TEAM HAD TO WAIT LONGER TO WIN THEIR 5TH, THE PITTSBURGH SQEALERS THAT'S WHO..I TOLD YOU, YOU NEED A CALCULATOR, BRO YOU DON'T COUNT TO GOODlffng$

SO GUESS WHO'S THE CRYBOY NOW!!!!!, AND GUESS WHAT THERE GETTING FOR CHRISTMAS, A CALCULATOR AND A CASE OF TISSUE!!!!:rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:rtfl:

CAN YOU SEE IT NOW???? NO OFFENSE BIGDAWG, I JUST GOT FACTS TO GO WITH MY JOKES.....PEACE

I like picking with you crazy cryboy fans cause you guys are nuts just like us Stiller( that's how it is said in the burgh ) fans. You forgot to add a few facts to your fancy stats like Steelers were the first to WIN 4 superbowls - kissing your sister doesn't count --ask the players they will tell you getting there means nothing unless you walk away with the bling. And the the Steelers have a better superbowl winning percentage than the boys and if not for a two perfectly placed chest high picks ;) (4 years 7mil from Oak Raiders- or something like that :D ) they would probably be a .500 team when the chips were on the line.

Truth is the boys had some players that I really did like - Pittsburgh native Tony D, Harvey Martin, Randy White, Tony hill & Golden Richards they were as good as they came. Until more head to head superbowls can change results the ONLY stat that matters to me in the Steeler/ Cowboy debate is Pittsburgh 2 to Cowboys 1. i think even your calculator can get that far. :rtfl: frstplc
