misconceptions and misunderstandings in our hobby.
hi my EF/MF brethren
From time to time I like to look at our hobby with a wide view, now this post is not meant to single out any indiviual or group, it is my way of just sharing what I feel, as of late I have been looking at what we have, who we are and our overall direction, EF/MF is strong, with new hobbyists, new styles of play and with guys putting out DVDS and internet tv capability we should grow even more in the future, peeps know as of late the SFEFLOC was restructured to go 4.0, now I have had some positive feedback and negative, but on the whole it was best for us, but in doing things sometimes you lose support of people you may have had close relationships with, to anyone reading this blaze your own trail, this hobby has alot of uneccesary people worship, I too have been guilty of this, but after revaluation of where I was and where I wanted so Flo to be in the EF/MF world I had to clean up my yard, there are great people in this hobby, but still it is just a game, weather a person is a great coach, player, figure artist , painter tweaker whatever, admire there skill but evaluate the whole of that person before you step out on a limb and say hey such and such is so great or wonderful, you may be wrong, and not know how you got involved in something deeper than you expected. I love the game and want to spread it anyway I can, but not at the expense of giving out bad information. to our newer hobbyists look at whats here, emulate the things you want to do from experienced veterans, but beware if you see that you are now allied or linked with a person or group that may not be on the same page or ideas as you, bounce! trust me, one person I think of is Anthony Burgess, now I wont recap AB's life and times in the EF/MF community, but I feel its a shame he is no longer here, even though he may not have been the most well liked indiviual in EF/MF, his heart and vision always shined, I understand him more now than ever. AB you are missed brother contact me, but in closing let peeps play how they want, help others when you are able, EF/MF can grow if We all contribute to it. and whats best for you may not be best for me, but have enough character as a person to let me try another path, somtimes my EF/MF family we can be what is wrong in the hobby, it took me a while but I got it. stay blessed |

Lock I feel ya bro......
...........but one issue I have is you can not and I repeat can not come on here and say your way is better then another way!! That doesn't fly in this world. If you love doing something your way then do it, don't try to be-little someone's elses way of doing things because you see it as a legacy way of doing things.
Some folks in this Hobby is thinking Reggie is forcing the TSO rules on folks to go National, however Reggie just promotes and hypes the TSO rules his way. Folks that have played in other leagues and come and play in the TSO ruleset love this way of playing because it allows you to be more creative, it challenges you mentally and physically and it also keeps you in the game all the time. I know some folks say physically, yes it does. I keep a towel with me at all times because I run a hurry up offense in this style of play and if you are not quick on your feet, I will cut that set on or force you to use a timeout, just like a real game situation. You got to love it. Lock I said all that to say let the community make a decision on a style of play and not force it!!! |
brother RJ thanks for the reply
I am in complete agreement, you cant force feed peeps things, that will just get you upchucked upon for real, I use to think the more things you were exposed to made you more well rounded, and it may, all it did for me was make me know alot of stuff, and a master of none of it, I still dig Devider Style, I still have a sincere interest in the MPFL , but I knew I had to focus on the 4.0 to settle on a style choose it and thats that, I will always have an interests in the winding road of EF/MF but it spread me real thin and I can blame no one but myself for that, now is my moment of clarity, RJ give me a call when you can, i need to kick it with on the real Dunn ok scream at me.

Similarities and Differences
This is what makes this hobby great. The varied approaches to how the hobby is played opens the door for creativity. We as a community must learn to look beyond our differences and look at our similarities; that is electric football. I’m not saying that to say that we should overlook our differences, for we should know how our neighbor’s differences. As I said to Anthony Burgess back when my video “Electric Football Federation†was only an idea, it’s not how you play; it’s what we play.

Scott, RJ and Lock...
Scott... The actual money shot was the part you chose to leave off what Lock said at the end of his post. It's underlined and in RED.

RJ... I agree with your post 100% Lock... Misconceptions and misunderstanding generally occur when people who have dilemmas with others, do everything but talk directly to the person with whom they are having the problems. People would rather come up here and post about things they heard third party...even if they don't have all of the facts or they just put up complete fiction altogther. You're not the type of person who usually does that, so I'll take your thread at face value until we've had a chance to speak. Peace, Don Smith |

Well stated all.
There were three times where this message clearly strikes a cord with me personally.
1. My second, maybe third convention, where Vance Warren, Frank Johnson, Steve Graham, one person I can't remember (sorry), and I were put into a room to put together a national set of guidelines in which to play. At the time we weren't even playing with TTC's in our league :rtfl: ! The first thing I noticed was how different our styles of play was for the same seemingly simple game. We did our best but it would have taken years of work to even come close. 2. We were at a convention doing the Green Room Rumble. The LA guys had the boiled of course and there was some complaining that they should not play. I couldn't believe such an issue should be raised when the men weighed 3.2. I really was blown away when you consider that these gentlemen traveled across the country to fellowship. 3. I was at a convention a couple of years ago when I went past a table with these awesome teams on display. By every indication they were for sell and being a collectore 1st (Walapalupe) and player 2nd (GLEFL) I started inquiring about the teams. I immediately was told how the old way of playing was not realistic (I know that) and this new system would revolutionize the game. Being that my philosophy at the convention is to learn every style of play, I gave the gentlemen my undivided attention. As the method of play was explained it was similar, though much more thoroughly detailed, to how we used to play in the DEFL, stop action and adjustments. I politely thanked the gentleman, who turned out to be AB, and inquired about the teams on display and then I found out they were not for sale. The guy was very passionate about what he was doing and you can't blame anyone for believing in what they have. However some people just have to have it their way and currently this hobby is seemingly in an interface mode. Everyone will have to sacrifice some facet of what they do to bring cohesiveness. This message board is the first big step to that end. The key is to respect what any league is trying to do and their rules. By leaving your style at home you are opening yourself up to growth IMHO. Thanks for all the information and insight and god bless MF/EF and AB. |

It is good to be part of this hobby, it is like being part of a great military unit, and like all units in and out of the military, all in the unit must get a long to move a long, that's just how it is. :)
