My first post & of course a couple questions

Hey guys, I just found these boards...wish I would've seen them sooner! I got my first board when I was like 8, & didn't know what I was doing with it, I lost interest & eventually sold it. The other day I was looking around the net & found that EF isn't dead!!

I purchased an excalibur vibrating football game off ebay the other day, it looks like it has the "real" grass look...so my first question is: Is it a good board?

My next question is: Where do I find some inexpensive NFL teams to get me started.

welcome

not to usurp coach J......BUT let me be the first to welcome you to the word of electric/Miniature football or welcome you back should I say..My name is Brian W aka wolverine

To answer your NFL question....That depends on how you want to go...Miggle toys who took over Tudor Games was told By the NFL they had to stop carrying NFL teams SO there is None being made except by some private persons..BUT you can find NFL teams on ebay
OR you can go the college route..Miggle still makes college teams and EF teams that have NFL colors without the logos and names
go to www.miggle.com
and go to the online store

the other thing about the set you bought...Ive heard that its not that good...but I dont have one so I dont know for myself

Hope this helps and again welcome back...Brian w

Hey, since this is your first post I want to tell you welcome to the hobby!!!!! Unfortunately, there aren't many NFL teams for sale (other than Excalibur), but they aren't very cheap. I would say go to Miggle.com and look for some 67 bigmen college teams, or look for some EFL painted teams that resemble the NFL team you want. If you are interested in painting, buy some figures from www.4buzzball.com (buy the Mag 7) or www.footballfigure.net .
Those sites both have great figures. For paints, you can use some cheap Apple Barrel, Folkart, or Delta Ceramcoat paints that you find in the craft section at walmart or Michael's. Also pick up a few detailed brushes. Do a search on painting and you will get more information. I think you will need bases too, because I hear vibrating football doesn't sell very good ones. I suggest getting clear speed diamond bases, from www.4buzzball.com, or getting some proline strong, orange, or polo green bases.
Start looking through posts, and you will learn more about the hobby, and better information.
Also check this URL and look at the Vibrating football review towards the back: http://users.anytimeweb.com/Clients/...docs/MFCA3.pdf

Keep up with the hobby, and when you get more experienced buy a 308 board, or Watts board, or a custom big board.

Thanks the help so far guys! is the 67 pretty much what everybody uses?

Taylor 06-01-2008 05:07 PM

The 67 stands for 1967, and if you are not playing competitive the 67 bigmen are great, especially for starters. If you are playing competitive, then you will probably have to go to the links I posted, buy some figures, and paint them OR pay someone to paint them.

ninerfan09 06-01-2008 07:30 PM

Just one more question, I've seen some helmet stickers & custom endzone & mid field logo's but haven't found where to get them, know a good site?

WEIRDWOLF 06-01-2008 07:39 PM

Welcome to the Miniature Football Coaches Association Forum. Make sure you check out the main page at www.miniaturefootball.org and visit the league and links pages for more info. There is a Bluegrass League starting in Kentucky and I am sure someone will contact you from that league.

Excalibur makes a nice battery field for at home family game play but the real question is where do you want to go with the hobby? Do you want to compete in a league or just have something fun to do with the family and kids. There are a number of ways to go. If you want to compete eventually, then you shoud at the minimum pick up a older model #620 Tudor field. They were and are the standard for many leagues however there is a trend towards going with larger 2' x 4' fields that are custom made or made by various manufacturers from Buzzball to Footballfigures.net and other various individuals.

For NFL players you either need to get someone to paint them for you or purchase them on ebay. Excalibur is suppose to get some made but nobody has seen these yet.

That should get you started on your first questions. Please feel free to ask questions but also0 make use of the search engine on this site. Just type in some key words like 620 field, custom boards, etc and follow someof the threads that come up. Many of your questions will get answered through the search and will probably lead to more questions.

Enjoy and welcome!

Every question you have is here and has been answered many times. Search out your answers in this forum, in doing so you will be surprised what else you will learn about this wonderful hobby today.

Get some basic knowledge under your belt and then ask some more specific questions.

The Excalibur board is actually pretty darn good, it's battery powered, I actually bought one recently and was surprised, it was better than I was expecting.

NFL teams are all over Ebay and always up for sale here too.

Take it all in, search out your answers, you are on your way into a great hobby and welcome to the brotherhood.

NFL teams

Excalibur customer service confirmed me by e-mail that NFL teams should be available for August 1st on the Excalibur website. Can't wait to see them and at almost 20$/team, they better be great!!! i need two sets of every teams (some home, some away..) for my custom project

If not, when i'll go with the Miggle figures and ordered some decaled helmets and maybe do some touch-ups with a couple of theses.

The result: i wish for the beginning of the NFL season

oh BTW, welcome aboard my friend

Thanks again for all your help, I guess I was a lil too rambunctious with the questions to start off. I just purchased my first two teams off ebay (49ers & Dolphins)
Hopefully in the coming weeks I'll try a project of my own & share the result with you guys.

Hi ninerfan09,

Greetings to you my friend. My name is John but I am better known as Coach J on the chatboard. I am the gentleman who was mentioned in the initial response. Welcome to the chatboard. As Geno H said keep up the enthusiasm and eventually someone can come with an answer to your question or questions. Most of your initial questions have been answered. If you are looking for someone to paint a particular team for you then let me know. By the way I noticed that you live in Kentucky. I will try to see if I can put you in touch with some coaches in your area.

Have a good day, feel free to ask any additional questions, and again welcome to the chatboard.

John aka Coach J

kentucky league

Hey ninerfan09

Where in Kentucky are you? There are a group of us in the Bowling Green area that are forming a league if you would be interested in playing in a league. I am in Nashville, TN but I go up to play in Bowling Green.

Welcome to the forum and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get back in the game.

Thanks

Welcome To The Hobby

You will find most of your questions answered here. also, familiarize yourself with the PM function. you can send a personal message to an individual on a more specific question, or looking for a more specific answer. also, its a good tool for just chatting away about the hobby.

There are some of us here who have been back for 2-5 years (myself and some others), some are brand new (Michael, who is 12yrs old and yet, gave you the absolute most informed response thus farthmbsp$ ), some back within the past year (DetroitChild and a few others), and the old vets who probably never left the game. my point is, dont feel like you are way behind in anything or feel its not your place to ask a question. there are guys in the same boat as you and we mix in right along with the founding fathers of the hobby.

as you research how far the game has come, you will see there are different people who specialize in different areas. just watch, you will figure out what i just said soon enough.

and as previously mentioned, as far as being back in the game, it has become more of a hobby for us. you can explore and settle into the many facets of the hobby that are here. you can play in a league or tournamentsfor competition. you can play solitaire leagues which is all by your self with a few teams. you can get into painting your own teams. you can get into customizing your own figures from the 5 or so different manufacturers of figures. you can get heavily into just tweaking bases for optimum performance. or you can get into building boards and stadiums. or perhaps just collecting teams. did i leave anything out??????
might seem overwhelming right now, but it will all fall into place as you dabble more on the board and in the hobby. most of us do all of the above, but like i said, you will find some guys are specializers in the particular aspects of the game.

BUT THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS, FIND SOME GUYS WHO PLAY, AND ATTEND THEIR GAME. FIND THE LEAGUE IN KENTUCKY AND TRY YOUR BEST TO GET TO AN OUTING. WE CAN TELL YOU ABOUT THINGS ALL DAY, BUT WHEN YOU ACTUALLY SEE IT, IT COMES TO YOU SO MUCH FASTER AND WITH BETTER UNDERSTANDING.thmbsp$

So enjoy my friend, and welcome.ppls$
