Testors Dull-Coat
 

Does Testors Dull-coat spray yellow on white. I would like a dull-coat to my Vikings, and I don't want the white to yellow. I hope it doesn't. If it does, could you guys please respond what dull-coats don't yellow, or to do something to the figure that will make it not yellow. Also I use Apple barrel, Delta Ceramcoat, and Folk art on Reginald Rutledge figures. I am also looking forward to using testors enamels on Reginald Rutledge's figures. Thanks a ton for any responses!

I don't know about the spray, but the brush on is one I'd stay away from. I used it on a Rams team and it made the yellow in the numbers run off the figure. I also would stay away from the gloss. I was putting it onto the Dolphins team that I just painted and it picked up some of the green on the figures base and spread it onto the jersey. I had to re-paint 8 figures because of it. I like Testors paint, but not their clear or dull coats. I would go with Delta Ceramcoat matte finish instead for the dull look, and their high gloss for a shiny look.

for flat finishes, i use testors model masters flat clear lacquer finish. it is a brush on finish, and it does nit yellow, from what i have seen. i seal the figures first with a brush on water based varnish.

Yes, it does yellow over time. My Notre Dame team looks like I painted them yellow instead of white.

If I spray something over it, like Krylon clear gloss and spray the dull coat will it turn yellow. Or What is a good flat finish that I can use then

I'm a BIG fan of testors DullCote.It gives your team a
"different" look.A great look I might add,but that is just
my opinion.Some like the flat look some like the gloss look.
Both have their appeal.But getting back to Testors DullCote.
May I suggest you brush coat your figures with an arylic ( water based)
clear-coat/varnish, first.Coat them well,GrassHopper.Get ALL the
little spots that spraying usually misses;i.e. between the legs;
under the arms;Then spray with the DullCote and you "shouldn't"
have a problem.There are several good brush-on clear coats out
there,Model Master;Delta ;and others.I prefer Delta clear coat myself.
Give this method a try.All the suggestions given are good.Your choice.

I should of said the model masters dull coat is Testors.
No it has not yellowed on me yet and I have used it for 5 years.
I prefer delta ceram coat for the gloss. I get the gloss/ brilliant and use it on the helmets.
I should say I agree with Chris Stacey.
I brush everything on.

To brush coat, would a model masters gloss clear acryl work. Thanks, Michael

This was a very timely thread for me as I want my current project to have the dull coat look that I see from the spray on Testors dull coat. After seeing this thread, my plan will be to use (1) the Delta Ceramcoat semi-gloss brush on first, (2) spray the Testors dull coat, (3) Delta ceramcoat gloss coat on the helmets.

Micheal, I know people that have used the model masters gloss clear acryl, I never have. I really like the delta ceramcoat semi-gloss and gloss varnish as I've found it to be very durable and without a doubt it leaves the white very pure (absolutely no yellowing).

I use micro-scale coating for my gloss and flat almost exclusively. Brush-on dries nice and smooth and I have never had any of it yellow. Find at good hobby stores with model building supplies or online.
