What type of base ??
If you had to describe the skills of players by position what would you say????
for all positions - if you like take one position . Also why would you want that certain skill or trait I am new to EFL and trying to put together a league team so help is needed I will have like a 48 man squad so there can be more than one type per position Example: RB -speed , runs straight, RB #2- Fast turns hard to the right for a speed sweep threat , or flare pattern Please add to this list . |
You should get a lot of replies on this one, at least I hope you do.
One thing I have been experimenting with lately is a running back, one that is not fast, of course you need those too, but one that looks exactly like your fastest back, but is tweaked for strength, lots of strength, one that will run right up behind your lead blocker and stay with him, not bounce back off of him, but one that stays and pushes. It can be good as he is disguised to look just like your fast RB, but he can help push his way through behind his lead blocker, good for those plays when you need to move the ball a few yards. I also like a WR on an ITZ dial, these can be recognized by an experienced coach, but he will not know what you have it set to do. This can be fun as you stack behind another receiver and then have this ITZ based WR run all kinds of crazy patterns. Just a couple of tings I am having fun with right now. |
Thanks for the reply
So the ITZ WR that moves say left , is that supposed to free the WR behind him by taking the cover coner out of the play? This is the type of thinks that I am taking about very good |
You can stack the ITZ WR behind and have him run a J pattern, a hook, run a pure diagonal slant. The ITZ dial is crazy you can make it do some weird stuff.
Very fun. The possibilites are endless. |
Don't forget loopers
Those fast hooking defensive ends or OLB's that put the pressure on the QB as well as help to contain the sweep. Can also be good for the RB's aswell (already mentioned).
BTW - those ITZ dials can be used for many things. Some already mentioned, blocking schemes. Just practice and let your creativity take you places. |

Good stuff. |
Waht about inside linebackers
Straight? Strong? fast? Moving left ? Moving right ? |
Ilb / Mlb
I would suggest strong and stable. Good balance - decent speed - but not too fast. Predictable direction with power.

Thanks sounds good

I am getting in late on the post but here is my .02 cents worth. Yes it is understandable to have a speed base on your RB figure but don't ever forget your loopers. I have a few tweaked bases on my RB figures to loop left or right for sweeps. The nice thing is that they run straight for around 40-45 yards after turning the corner on a sweep. You can also put loopers on your WR's for post and slant patterns and your outside LB's to blitz the opposing the QB. Before I forget you can use your loopers or ITZ on your QB for rollouts and bootlegs. As was said previously I would make sure my inside LB's had strength to neutralize the OL. Remember you are the coach so be creative. Hope this helps.

bases, team roster, playmakers
Rookies and Vets alike,
We all need to have that superstar playmaker in our backfields and your style dictates what kind of talent is needed to fulfill your coaching needs. On most of my teams, I use as many as 7 or 8 RB/FB to get it done. I personally like to use 2 go-to runners (one power, one speed) to move the chains. If they blocking is right, he will break into the secondary and cause more problems. I use so many players because they are role players. Designed to perform a function and I will change them depending on down and yards needed. bases: for pure all round RB - TTC with speed. Most TTC will have stability to run behinf the blockers, but you want one that will slid off when the hole becomes open. You can have them sweep to either sides as well as put the gut. explosive runners are next in the group... Rookies with power/speed combo sometimes TTC with the same makeup. these guys are waiting behind the line and as soon as the hole opens, they are thru it and 20yds down field before you know it. can be the same as the next type. next level is the speed back - Rookie base with speed that arcs. I need to have at least 2 of these types (one going left; other going right) to run sweeps. Sure the defense may notice that one goes left but they still have to stop the play. FB Base - power TTC that has quickness....not pure speed lead blockers need to be able to get a hat on the looper (OLB) or help push the pile. He also has to be able to chip and get open in the flats when you need that call. those are main types I like to use. It would be easy to name a base type, but if you have it tweaked for your plays, it really don't matter. I use Wide tops, frostys, R/L, miggle rookies, old school rookies.... |
K-Lo,
Great post! Wally |
Right on K-Lo
The Packers also have developed several different RB, WR, TE and QB's.
Each of them as we say "do what they do" in the system and scheme at the time. Probably like many coaches - My offensive style and system has evolved and continues to develop. $cch$ So my advice to coaches work 'em, tewak 'em, train 'em and then think about how you can use 'em. Not everbody has to go straight and fast! But that's football!ftbll$ |
Thanks K-LO for your insite on RB that was good
How about FS and SS Thanks again |
