Playing days at Notre Dame
4 Attachment(s)
I was at my sisters house last week and she pulled out some of these photos of me playing at Notre Dame. Truthfully I never look back at these pictures and I have not been back to Notre Dame for 12 years. The reason being is I'm now 40 years old,but in my heart I'm still a kid. With all the changes to to school and stadium I feel like I won't recognize the place if I go back. To be honest with you I'm scarred that it will finally hit me that I'm getting older and I'm not ready to go there. I still know N.D as the place I have visioned in my mind.Anyway, here are some pictures of me in football and baseball, as I can only wish I could go back and relive those days. I would do a lot of things differently (like not break my angle:eek:   ),but I still had a blast. I will always love my school and I appreciate those of you who have said kind things about me.

Nice pics Frank. I know that was not a receiver that was lifting you up ! |
Sorry
That's ankle not angle. Also, the man you see in the backround of the kickoff return photo just happens to be Rodney Culver. Rodney, was killed in a plane crash while he was with the Colts. He was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and it was an absolute shame that he had to go like that. Man, that is one young man I wish all of you could have known.

That was Tony Brooks I believe. He was a moster running back and his "claim to fame" was that Ricky Watters and Tony were sent home the day before the U.S.C game for missing another mandatory meeting. Thank God we still had Mark Green and Anthony Johnson back there. We were loaded.

Frank
We were just talking about you the other day...Jimbo and my fellow coaches in the HHEFL are planning a "tailgate demonstration" day at one of the home Notre Dame games...it would be a thrill to have you at the tail gateing party with us. Tim Young is making a stand for our MFCA/HHEFL banner and we plan on setting up about 4 boards in the Notre Dame parking lot about 3-4 hours before game time. We are also looking at doing the same at a home Purdue game...You are welcome to join us as is anyone who wants to make the journey to South Bend...we have not set a game date yet, but we are working on it....
P.S. I am glad to know you...you have something a lot of people don't...you were a piece of Notre Dame history...40 or not...I would have gave anything to play one down on that field.... Matthew Culp |

Thanks guys
Matt, I can't make it up there this year because I used up my vacation on the time I needed off for back surgery. I would love to do that though ,and if you all do it next year maybe I'll have the time off barring any other back surgeries:eek:    I appreciate the offer and please take pictures.

Nice Pics and Video!
That second pic (B&W) would make a good EF figure! thmbsp$
I see you had knee braces on both(?) knees? I remember those braces, had one on my left knee. Those things look like something out of the medieval age when you compare them to things guys wear today! It sounds like you had some great times at ND. I know how you feel about the age thing. I turned 41 in March (holy crap, heading toward 42!) and it's tough to look back sometimes. Judging by the recent pics, it looks like you are keeping yourself in good shape...I'm sure being an athlete your whole life, it's tough NOT to do some things out of habit! Do you play any ball in flag leagues or anything like that? I did that a few times (some pretty good ex college players in a few of those leagues) but that was back in my mid 20's! I eventually got hooked on ice hockey and have been playing ever since. Thanks for sharing those pics and the memories! |
Thanks again
I just want to say a special thanks to Sweeka for that clip. I had no idea that was out there. Thanks again. Also,to Steelerfan 1967. I don't play anything sports wise. I was a gym rat for the past 10 years, and after my back heals up I can't wait to hit it again. I'm so out of shape right now and have lost a ton of muscle. I hope they are right about muscle memory.:D :D
Anyway, I just love to play some electric football these days, and I am crazy about this hobby I lost for 30 years. You all have totally brought back that little kid inside of me. |
Very cool
Sweeka...in the words of Bill Engvail...THAT WAS AWESOME!thmbsp$

Glad to help
We're family up in here! ppls$ ppls$
I love ND Football thmbsp$ I win a championship with "The Ohio State Buckeyes" And I pray to god to one day see any son of mines in my favorite college colors: ![]() GO BLUE! :chr: :chr: :chr: :chr: |
Great Stuff! Sweetka that was excellent. I remember watching that game at home. Thats why I love college football. It's the atmosphere. Frank, dont worry about getting old. I am 41 and still love to play with little plastic football players vibrating across a metal field. The key to staying young is feeling young. thmbsp$

Too cool Frank! That should be somebodies entry in the scene contest next time. We should have a commerative Frank Jacobs figure as a gift for every MFCA member. :)

Frank,
I was so dissappointed I missed you at the convention here. It is cool to post those pictures though, it is amazing you played on those great Lou Holtz teams! If I am not mistaken, didn't you have a big catch in the Bowl game that gave ND the National Championship? Irish and Oilers all the way... Mark |
Here you go Frank...

Since you haven't been back to your old alma mater in 12 years... I took the liberty of taking some snapshots that will hopefully bring back some memories of the place where you used to hang your hat.
Sorry I didn't get a photo of Zahm... you'll have to settle for Morrissey. Peace, Don |
Thanks to all who have posted here. Living 20 minutes from Notre Dame and living in northern Indiana all but 1 year and never more then a 40 minute drive away you can take things forgranted. All these posts remind me how lucky I am to live close to a big college school. I watched ND Football as I grew up. I saw alot of things in person that I here people talk about and I say to myself I remember seeing that. I never really thought about how lucky I was. I saw history being made and didn't even know it. Tim ppls$ ppls$ ppls$

Frank, are you playing in the CBSMF? It would be sweet if you could represent with the Irish from your era.
Thanks for sharing DMC GO BLUE! |
Thanks Don
Hey, I really appreciate those photos and it was awesome seeing how beautiful that place truely is. I can't believe it's been about 20 years. What's crazy is that I have dreams almost every night that I'm playing there. I never had one dream about Notre Dame while I attended Notre Dame, but now I have one almost every night.
With all that said, I still will only play in a pro league of electric football with my Oilers. I miss my Oilers toooo much for words. |
One more thing
Tell D.C (the rock) I said hello. It was great talking with both of you as you were on your way up there. thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$ thmbsp$

Attention Don
Heah...when you come to South Bend look us up...it would be great to get together for a afternoon of football at Tim Young's house. He lives in Elkhart which is just a hop, skip and a jump from Notre Dame. :)
|
Will do...
Matt... pm me with yours and Tim's phone numbers, and I'll be happy to give you guys a heads-up next time I'm in South Bend. In the past I've hung out with Frank Johnson, Jimbo Dunagan, and Pat Morris during my excursions to ND. It'll be cool if we can get together, maybe Michigan Joe will come and hangout as well.
Frank... It was good talking to you as well. I look forward to meeting you in person at some point. Keep in touch! Peace, Don |
