I've returned to the GAME

Hi all, new to the forum old or forgot all about electric football. I got my first game for christmas back in the 70s and played it a lot and started collecting teams and then I pretty much set a side and did nothing with it again. In 2001 I got interested in it again and wanted to buy some unpainted players so i did and painted them up then went to my parents and got the old board out and it didn't work so i set it down again. Last weekend I got a brand new game at a garage sale for 5 bucks and have rekindled my interest in the game. I've been amazed how I forgot so much about it. I know I'm at the very beginning and want to get back into it and relearn how to play. I still haven't forgotten how the little guys would never really run a straight line, HA So my questions I have are what is the difference in the players, these days? Will my old bases still work if I get new players? My old stuff is in good condition but wonder. Back to the players I see all kinds of new poses the players are molded in. I would guess since I have so much existing stuff I might want stick with what I have and buy new unpainted figures. I do have the talent to paint them, but would be interested in making my own decals. I sorta posed that question about that on another post, but since I have decal paper and a printer that can do that sort of thing why no save a buck? Since all my teams helmet logos were either painted with a toothpick by me or by the factory that originally made them. Playing the game I need to play more before I can actually ask anything about that, which I'll prbably will. Thanks and I look forward to and learning more about the game thmbsp$

Welcome back !

welcome back!

I'd say the biggest change to the game is that we can now improve the bases thru "tweaking" to get them to run consistently and smoothly. This takes the playing part of the game to a whole new level. We gotta get you some tweaked bases so you can see the difference for yourself. After googling thru all the teams in the pictures section of this forum I'd recommend you do a search on tweaking bases. You will discover that people have learned to squeeze the back prongs of the bases (and angle them back) in order to get them to run smoother. This is just one example of the "tweaking" to the bases that can be done. Some other major changes are homemade big boards, custom figures, as well as decals and accessories for dressing up your figures.

Hope that helps.
Joe

I'm guessing you live near to Matt Culp and the Hoosier Heartland EFL. You need to hook up with him as soon as possible. The best way to get back into this fast is to find a reliable mentor and Matt is one of the best!
He is listed on here as Silverhorse. He is a Cowboy fan but we all have our problems we must deal with...:D !

You can reach him by email at mmmculp@comcast.net He lives in Logansport.

Can you explain to me how these leagues work? I'm just amazed how big this game has gotten :)

Welcome back to the hobby, you are in for quite a ride. This is no longer the toy that we all cherished as kids, this is played at a professional level now and the things you will see and learn will amaze you.

What will amze you even more are the FANTASTIC coaches in this hobby and their willingness to share, teach and support you in your rediscovery of the greatest hobby in all of table top sports gaming.

Don't get overwhelmed with all the info that is out there, take it in at your own pace, you will learn it. I strongly suggest getting together with a local league or experienced coaches for some "talking scrimmages", showing you hands on will greatly increase your learning experience.

Have fun!

Matt has a great league , even if he is a Cowboy fan :D
Our league works like this. Each caoch has a team , hopefully their favorite . We put coaches into divisions based upon location of the coaches or the days that are easiest to get together .
We have a common meeting place to play our games . The meeting place is Donatos pizza for the weekend games and Massey's pizza for the Monday games. We can also play games at each others homes. I would prefer for the games to be played at somewhere public , but that cannot always be done.
If you would like I could send you a copy of our rules so that you could have a idea on what rules we use in our league .

Hi There,

Greetings to you my friend. My name is John but I am better known on the chatboard as Coach J. To begin with welcome to the MFCA chatboard and welcome BACK to the hobby. By the way I have also read the replies to some of the other posts.

Now to your questions. You might want to invest in some bases from Miggle. My suggestion would be either the Orange, Teal, or Polo Green Speed bases. You may also want to invest in some Proline bases. As for the figures yes there are a lot of new poses by some of the more creative people in the hobby. The poses you saw are what is known as custom figures. You mentioned that you paint fairly well and have a machine that can print out decals. If that is the case I would recommend that you purchase a set of unpainted figures and paint the team that you want. I also would suggest that you get in touch with Matthew Culp aka "Silverhorse228". I also think it is wise for someone who is either new to the hobby or in your case getting back into the hobby to find a mentor during the early stages of miniature football. A mentor can explain to you how leagues work and answer other questions that you might have relating to the hobby. Hope this helps.

Have a good day, feel free to ask any additional questions, and again welcome to the MFCA chatboard and welcome BACK to the hobby.

John aka Coach J

Welcome Back!!

I too just returned to MF after many years away - your timing is great - this is like the "Renaissance" period for EF/MF. In the last year I have met many great guys and currently play in 2 leagues! It is simply awesome!!! thmbsp$

These replies have been great ppls$ Thank you all. I feel like a kid in the candystore with excitement for electric football. So many questions to ask and so many things to research. Today I'm heading to my parents for a visit but my main objective is to get my players :D I can't wait to practice with them. I know once I start playing more questions will come. Thanks again.

my man welcome back

I too recently returned a little over a year ago. Like Coach J says, find someone that can teach you all you need to know. If I hadnt found these guys that we have here in the Atl, I would have given up or worst yet be lost. You'll have a great time with some ups and a whole lot of downs, but overall you will enjoy yourself.
