2. 3-4
3. Zone Blitz
4. 46 D
5. Cover 2
6. Cover 1
7. Nickel
8. Dime

10. 6-1

A Little Defensive Insight

I see where you're going with having to have ten different "setups" on Defense, but I have to alert you to how inconsistent that would be to real football.

There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that any DC would setup in a GL defense if the O is in a 5-Wide set.

So, since I know you too use the video game playbooks, I would recommend you use certain Defenses based on Offensive setups ie 4-3 & 3-4 vs. normal Offenses (2 RBs/1 or 2 TEs) and Nickel and Dime against obvious passing formations 3 or 4 WRs. Then you could have ten (or more) different plays for each Defensive set, which could possibly be the same ten just with different personnel.

Off the top of my head I think I use twelve base formations that have twenty plays each, and of course GL and Special Teams are used when appropriate.

However you choose to do it, have fun and dont let the other coaches in your solitaire league cheat you like they do in mine! :D

Great ideas

I have 6 basic formations on O ( I have adjusted things not to follow Madden) and I understand where you are coming from.
Here is the O play selection.
1. Pro Set
2. Weak I
3. Strong I
4. Shotgun (long yardage)
5. Two tight end (short yardage)
6. Two tight end (slow the clock)

Now, what D would you put to each O? Maybe each O selection comes with a D selection. Example-If I roll dice and get Pro Set-HB Gut the D would counter with what? I would like to have at least 6 selections for each, that way I could use a six sided dice.

Something to think about

In my solitaire league I had 10 defensive sets as well. I had one labeled as a "wildcard" in which I could use any of the other 9 that I wanted. On occasion my defense did not match up to my offense (I rolled a run defense against a pass play). I did not tinker with it as much because teams are caught in the wrong defense in real life.

Keep doing what you do and let us know when you have the finish product.

What defensive formation are you thinking of for your Zone Blitz? A zone blitz can be run from various formations: 4-3, 3-4, 4-4, etc. ..... yes, even in the EF version of real football. What about Cover 3? Cover 4? Cover Zero? [no safety in middle of field].

Good luck. thmbsp$

Chris, don't limit yourself to just one version of each formation. I use 6 different 4-3 defenses, 6 different 3-4's, and 4 different 5-2's. thmbsp$

I do something similar Al. thmbsp$ You can take several sets and create various versions of them.
