fake play rules ?
 
Hi,

Seeing some real football vids yesterday, I was wondering if anyone has integrated fake play in their games ? ( = for example you call the run and make a pass, or make a run with another RB than the first designed)

If somebody use it, how can you manage that ? In solitaire, I think it should be easy, but in a 1vs1 ?

In solitaire, I plan on allowing teams one trick play per game, most likely a halfback pass, or some kind of reverse pass, something like that.

I think you could also do it for kickoff returns, where you use two returners and one goes in one direction then pitches on a reverse. The trick of course would be to have the two returners end up close enough to each other to be within legal pitch distance in most leagues (ours in the BMEFA is two base lengths).

You can easily incororate reverses, options, draws, etc. within multi-stop rule sets. Actually all you really need is to add one stop to your rules and you can easily incorporate these type of plays. The option for example...you call QB run right (RB is running right too, but outside of the QB run lane). Then as the play develops if you stop the board then you must make a pitch to the RB. The draw play is first called "pass", then as the board is turned on and the QB drops back to pass you stop the board and call draw in which the ball is handed off to the RB who was originally set deep. You could easily incorporate the one stop rule into "traditional" rules by allowing it on one play per set of downs, etc. For a more pure multi-stop rule set (more than one stop) you can review the MPFL rules to learn more about that way to play.

Draw play
 
Yes, I use the draw play by stopping the board and handing the ball to the running back. The back must be within a certain distance to receive the hand-off. I then allow a pivot to the running back and the defense can pivot any unengaged defenders who have not crossed the line of scrimmage into the backfield. This neutalizes wide blitzers from the outside!

I ran this a few times... You make your QB spin around while holding onto your RB. Once he rotates once the RB is "released" to the empty side of the field. Enjoy...

the only problem I see, is that for now we play with spacing limits between the figs (one base widht and 1/2 base lenght), so perhaps it will be more difficult to set up...But it's definitly a fun trick to test, especially because we can test it without adding stoppages.

Trick Play
 
The other thing that a lot of guys do is to tweak the prongs so that the guy runs backward.

It opens up the "bootleg", fake rollouts and plunging into the line, and some interesting wide receiver routes.

Since the player isn't down until the base (not the figure) loses forward progress, it is a nice addition for deception.
