Motors
 

For those of you who have created motors in the past, can you help me through this?

I have created two motors. Both in the same electrical boxes that reggie uses. Same motors also (radio shack.) Each motor, after a week of tweaking them, has had the brass piece "pulled off" of the back. I may post pictures sometime later.

What have you had success with for building motors?

I have a 308.

THe simplier, the better :D and light weight counterweight allows my board to run quite smooth (even on 3.0g or less) and not too loud (for a fiberboard speaking...). THe light weight counterweight make the board switch off faster too (you can see it on the vids also).


the board is actually running with only one motor.

If you look at the thread call ''How to build a board'' in the tip section, I show how I build my motors. When you say that you tweak them, what do you mean ?

Changing counter weights or modifying them to get better speed/vibration.

I personnally glue with metal epoxy a ½ x ½ inch piece of brass with a nut on it. The nut is glued with the same Lepage metal epoxy. I glue the piece of brass on the motor shaft.

Have you soldered the wire to the "brass piece" which comes out of the back side of the motor? This is the area that I have been having trouble with.

Yes I did. I heat up my soldering pen and quickly put a drop soldering wire, sorry I don't know the word in english. I do not heat the piece of brass too much.

Avoid too much heat
 

on that brass tab that attach wire to the motor - it is very thin and will basically melt away. The way Pit describes is the best - let the softened solder drop on the wire/brass.
