Ironman Tournament/League Format???
 

I am a newbie so forgive me if this has been brought up before. Has anyone ever thought of a league/tournament played with only 11 players? In other words, NO substitions allowed.. Everyone plays both ways. I can see some advantages:

1. Faster play, you don't have to place and pull players.
2. Cheaper, you only need 11 figures and 11 bases.
3. Fewer Player characteristics to memorize.

Disadvantage:
1. What do you do if both teams are the same color?
2. Can't have specialized players for situations, i.e. loopers etc.

I am sure that there are more advantages/disadvantages out there. I am throwing this out for discussion which seems to be very popular on this board, grin. The reason I thought of this was because in high school, my football team played 8 man football. We had a center, 2 guards, 2 ends, and 3 backs. Backs and ends were eligible. It so happened that all 8 starters played the whole game both ways unless someone got hurt or it was a runaway game one way or the other. The 3 subs were freshmen, and none of them weighed more than 105 pounds. We went 7 - 1. Doug

it used to come up. but it has been a while since i brought it up. its a neat idea to "go back to how we played as kids", but for the most part, people have moved beyond ironman. i know in many of my league games i would show up with 14 or 15 players , other coaches thought i was crazy for not having at least 22 men on my team. well, i had way more than 22, i just prefferred to play with less. -less is more-. in 4 seasons, i only lost 2 games.

i think in the future, some tournaments will have an ironman division. a lot of us solitaire players stick with ironman teams, i know i usually try to only allow 13 or 14 players eligable in my solitaire games, gotta keep it fair.

I've gone ironman for my own solo EF/MF setup to maximise my investment in figures. I have enough for at least 13 teams at this stage. Most economical.

Could be done. Just play under the Original Tudor Rules with only original figures and bases. NO WEIGHT ADDED.

I was thinking rules from the 68/69 or 70/71 rule book that game with the model 500 series games.

tackling was any touch, passing was a toughy,was it evencomplete if you hit him on a bounce,or was that pre 70's,someone with a early rulebook please refresh my memory,for original bases ,are u talking original miggle rookies with the single clip and just miggle fab 5 men.:dohdh:
