No more 9 men on LOS?
 

I was watching some more "game" films and started thinking about the defensive set ups. Most rule sets, from what I can seem to decipher, look like they pretty much keep the offense into "recognizable" sets, even limiting the number of runners in the backfield or even not allowing them to have their interior lineman angled.

When you look at the defensive rules for most leagues, they all seem to say that they are not limited to any recognizable set. So you often see 8-9 men on the LOS and they can be angled whatever which way one deems necessary.

The bottom line is that the defense seems to have all the advantages. They get to press the receivers and have all the gaps covered.

I propose that rule sets be changed so that the defense can have no more than 6 men on the LOS. This would include cover corners.

I think that this would now give defense something to think about in the way of strategy. Do you press the receivers on the line and keep LBers back in zones? or vice versa. DBs play back and LBers come up to blitz.

I haven't tried it myself, yet. But I thought that this would be an interesting topic to discuss.

Hey Vince, we play by the coaches setting up the offense and the defense at the same time (simultaneously). The offense can shift, motion man and pivot any player/s during the set-up. Mean while, the defense is setting up and moving players at the same time as the offense. You should try this method with another coach. It allows the offense to get the defense in some bad situations. Of course the defense can out manuever the offense. Play it as real football without all the set-up rules. I think you will discover a very interesting way to play electric football!

You're right, same thing here. The other point is that we doesn't allow stacking or piling (each figure has to be separated from each other by one base space width and 1/2 base lenght), so the defense has to be carefull with the formation.

Of course, they can make a single line screen...but it's the offense job to take advantage of it (passing deep or slot passing of course, or even strong run) thmbsp$

I personally don't like any restrictions in offensive or defensive formations and set ups. I have talked at length with efgamer regarding his similtaneous set up method. It seems to me like a pretty good method to me. I tried to incorporate it into the MFCA CPC Championship Game Rules http://miniaturefootball.org/2010/06...les-announced/ but we still wound up giving the offense some time to make adjustments.

What you are proposing is good if restricitions are to be placed on defensive alignments. There are rules that have the defense set up in layers with a minimum of 5 yards between the defensive line and linebackers within the tackle box. This eliminates stacking within the tackle box.
