THE BIG QUESTION
 

NOW that I have turned 59, I look at all the years of EF and still see the same thing that Isaw when I was a young man. COACHES can't come together to have fun playing a game that is to have fun and relax you. AS we get closer to the SHOVEL we should cherrish each and every time we get to play. but because of rules, certain bases, time or plays we can't seem to come together as one to make this work. let's quit working against each other and start working together to make this work.
miggle put out rules that a lot of rules usa one way or another. REGGIE PUT OUT THE SHOOT-OUT RULES THAT A LOT us use in the college games. put them together, mix them up and go from there.as I said before, i have played a lot of deffert rule sets, and won. coaches just have to adjust.
lets get it together and make it work before the SHOVEL CATCHES UP WITH THE GAME, cause you never know when the man pulls your ####

I have read so much about the BIG QUESTION. Why are so many putting up obsatcles about RULES? UNBELIEVABLE!! Bottom line, just play. Man, I don't get it, maybe the same coaches who are putting such an emphasis on rule sets really don't want to play anyways. Yea,yea maybe the ruleset I play under are better than yours only my opinion. Maybe the ruleset you play under are better, your opinion. But if you REALLY wanna play just play, I don't get it. Put a board down get your little plastic atheletes out and play period. If 2 grown men cannot agree on a set of rules to play by then maybe they just shouldn't play. There are pros and cons to every rule set, agree on some rules and play. REALLY what is the big DEAL?

In short, were not getting any younger "LETS GET IT DONE!" wnnrcgr I finally caught up with the West Coast guys, the final brick!. Its going to be tough, u guys have no clue, I sure didnt, the hobby has a lot of healing to do. Attempting to pull, this thing together has taught me so much, nothing impossible of course, the hard things are what we do. 7 different regions 1 goal, its going to happen, the character, of these guys Im working with, will only allow success, I have much faith it will happen!;) the madness continues..............

somewhat brief view since my return to the hobby - the biggest problem - guys can't deal with losing ..and want to only win or have things their way .. I have seen too many examples of such. Win at any cost or my way - way off.

I show up when I say I will because I WANT to play and I respect other peoples time.

Let's just play. Leave the cell phones off during game time and enjoy the action - win or lose - box nice or not ;) .

In my experience with Subbuteo (table soccer) that was the biggest thing we had to overcome. The best thing that ever happened when one of our players moved back here from Scotland. He was a former #1 player in the world. So clearly miles better than the rest of us.

The example he then set was one of teaching. Throughout our games he will actually stop to explain strategies, and techniques which has improved our games dramatically. (To a point when I play him I'm shooting to keep it within 3 goals)

There are times when competition is important. (playoffs, tournaments) but especially in your local leagues if the top players take the time to share ideas and encourage the newer players especially it will make for a strong league in the long run and encourage new people to try out the game!

The 'win at all cost' guy will do much more damage to building the game moreso than almost any other factor.

Count me in for the action...we are already in the mix now it's time to start making the trip here for at least one of the circuit events!

Well said. I also happen to kart race. Most of the places and people I have raced with are all very friendly and willing to help... to a point. And perhaps MF can someday adapt the same approach.

In the pits... we will share knowledge and information to help racers get up to speed. (usually a three year process to get them competitive) Essentially we'll help teach someone until they beat us. Then they're on their own. :) Why not 'mentor' a new coach until they're competitive, and can win... then send them on their own? For me... in racing... or whatever... it's the competition I'm after. I LOVE a hard fought battle for a position. Much more entertaining then driving away from (or crushing) the opposition.

I don't care what the specific rules are, the engine package, or the weights... Make it fair, and I'll still race. 100mph or 50mph.

Miniature football... rules? Just tell me what they are, I'll eventually adapt. Let's play!

I must tell you this story about Mike:

We were at the Miggle Convention late-night and he asked me to scrimmage him. He ran a play and opened a beer. Now all while he's doing this I am resetting my defense. Mike is sipping his beer not touching anybody on his team. So now I'm like, aren't you going to set up? Mike took another sip and stated, "What are you in a hurry for"? Chill out and have a beer. Enjoy the game. So I try to slow down because Mike is sipping his beer. So I grab one take a sip and start clowning with then some ten minutes later he yells, get your but over here and run a play. I think we got one series apeice in about three hours. Looking back I realized that I had played so competitively over the years that I did not stop to enjoy the game, just win. Along the way we shared secrets where he adamently tried to teach me how to pass with my thumb. It really was epiphany for me and confirmed that this game could truly be enjoyed if played under the right circumstance.

HOW do you remember #*it like that. I told the wife that Ido recall that night. now that I think about it, that's funny but true to enjoy the game.

You said it best. “People are afraid to lose”. From my experience of dealing with certain coaches over the phone and by way of email, I have found some of them to be petty and insincere. Sometimes they can be just plain hateful.
I believe my rule set is the simplest in the hobby. They are the following:

Front of base tackling
No pivoting after the play begins
For field goals and extra points, run the board for 3 seconds to allow the rush an opportunity to block the kick
No stalling
I am shooting myself in the foot when I say this. “No boiled bases”.
This rule set can be used for any weight amount.

Ask a coach to play like that. Watch how fast he runs for the hills. He will break his neck to avoid you.
