shutting down a high powered passing attack (WHAT DO YOU DO IN CAMP)

Coaches,

Just curious, how do you guys prepare in camp to shut down a high powered passing attack. You know those receivers can only be held up for so long before they break free. ive seen some receivers get locked down in a tourney so it can be done. Alot of coaches are smart enough to put the round front bases on there receivers to slide off the cornerbacks and safetys. What strategy do you employ to slow this down.

1) has a zone defense ever worked in miniature football ?

2) Does anybody let the receivers catch the ball underneath then come up for the tackle ?

In miniature football..

In miniature football, there's not enough possibilty to shut down with a zone coverage but in a flickfootball game (my custom game ptoject), everything can happen, even blitz, zone coverage, man-to man coverage, etc....

Basic rules will come shortly on this website

Containment is what I hope for

Dre',

It's difficult to shut down teams in electric football but I think having the right athletes bring you closer to doing that. In the DFW style of play where you can throw to engaged players, it would seem that scoring would be up. However, some of the best defenses in the league give up anywhere from 6 to 13 points per game.

In the system Michael Robertson, Oscar Woodard, and myself run, the OLB, Shutdown Corners, and safeties work hand in hand. That's privy information because I know my opponents read this site but never comment. I can offer you methods to slow the other person down.

Hit me offline. There are ways to keep the other team from lighting you up.

Pass Defence

Shutting down a passing offense .

Well the first thing you must understand is the elements of the passing game.
Offense: Pass protection, defense coverage, open receiver, pass accuracy, receiver making the catch.

Defense: Pass rush, Pass coverage, reaction of the defenders on the ball.

Pressure vs Accuracy

No matter how accurate the QB is, if he has no time to throw the ball then his accuracy means nothing. Element of actual football

If the offense has the time, then the receivers must get open, but if the coverage is on point then once again the QB accuracy means nothing. Elements of actual football

If the receiver get open and the QB throws the ball and the defense is in the right type of coverage, then while the ball is in the air the defender has a right to the ball while the ball is in the air. Elements of actual football

The way one plays has a important part in the passing game.

Stopping the board to throw a pass, or to avoid a sack eliminates elements of actual football. It voids the proper execution of the pass rush, good pass coverage, and prevents the defenders right to make a play on the ball.

When the fuction of the game play is not balanced then it hutrs all areas of the game of football.

But if the focus is on the use of a prop then everything else gets voided out due to the game being played around a prop vs the game playing like the game should.

The MPFL is the answer to any and all passing question and contains all the elements of the actual game off football.

Wellington's Guide to Electric Football

Wellington Rules actually solved this problem IN THE LATE 1980s
by doing 2 things, recently referred to as breakthrus by others

The offense must call a play, in this case pass
This eliminates the hot potato Barry Sanders halfback pass phenomenon (yes I know Barry is retired but thats how old this solution is , and how long ago it was published)

2.The offense must dictate (presnap-before seeing the defense) the timing of the play, by electing to drop back and let the routes,(and coverage) develop for X amount of secondsThis prevents the "someone is about to sack me, Id better throw it phenomenon, which makes all but a "jailbreak pass rush" useless. Dictating the length of the pass play may sound artificial, but passing games in real life are devised by the depth of the QB drop, and the bend/break ratio of the linemen's technique, 50 series- 3 step drop, 60 series- 5 step drop, 70- 7 step drop, 80/90 - rollout right/left etc.

3. And maybe the most important, the QB is not hand held, he is mounted on a base, and must fend for himself, meaning you must coach him, and you must pass protect for him, meaning you must do coaching math of whether to protect with backs and TE or keep them in to block, it also allows rollouts
ALL PROVIDED FOR IN OUR SYSTEM, and in use for over 20 yrs with 30- player leagues,

4. Since the QB is now a physical target on the field, that cant run away as fast as your opposing coach can move his hand. your rushers now have a chance to register a sack. This also makes useful all those bases that run a 15 yd arc, because they are the perfect pass rusher to collapse the pocket.

5. The realism benefits, our ORIGINAL system provides
no need to play tackle-bump and run, because you dont have to cover all day
because our PATENTED Multiphase system has blitz possiblities, the offensive coach cannot counter.
no need to line your safeties up in punt formation, because if its run, they play from where they stand, and if its pass you have the opportunity (mandatory) to play man, zone, zone blitz or combination coverage (which you may design and have printed on cards in the Wellington System)
warning: playing a press alignment has a depth modifier , so if youre going to sniff the line of scrimmage you cant simultaneously play center field.

Last and definitely not least, you will not scare away people who have actually played, coached or seen real football, because you will be able to line up in static defensive formations, but still employ multiple stunts, coverages, keys and blitzes, all with the element of surprise, just be sure thats what you want to do, because there is a check out risk, and a limited amount of checkouts per game. This is to prevent the coach who calls an all out blitz every play, then wants to cancel EVERY PLAY,

This system is tried and true, the first and most realistic STILL IN EXISTENCE
whether or not someone else just discovered these concepts, does not change the fact We invented them. (CIRCA 1983- published 1987)
On the west coast ( which is part of the problem regarding the gap in recognition) we've been disinvited to conventions, so people east of the Mississippi have had limited exposure, but make no mistake, We did it complete, DECADES ago.

Offensive options - run, option, reverse, counter, bootleg, draw, screen, hb pass, (these are governed by direction, timing and strategy cards, which are played after the angling phase.

There is no play you cant run in our system
Defensive options, stunts- ( you can design your own)
Coverages- man, zone, combination, zone blitz (you can design your own)
Keys ( get an edge on predictable coaches, or pay the price when you guess wrong)
Blitzes- (a true element of surprise, outcoach your opponent by blitzing after his hands are tied- but again you had better guess right

this system is and has been laid out for over 15 years nd is copyrighted

Mr. Wellington,

Just a word of advice. It's difficult to land a blow when you telegraph your punches.

Man lets just stay on course, we know the truth, and based on what is written I can clearly see the truth.

We can't be concerned with hear say, false accusations, ect.

When you're on the brink of success many will come out and try to derail you're train, but that will not happen. Jealousy will cause people to do this very thing.

Good Subject

This is a good idea, there are so many ways to tweak a base. Flashing is one that I have good success with.

But you go through so many bases. One might spend well over $50.00 in bases but will not actual use all of them. Some get trashed more often than not.

Trying to find a bases that naturally run a certain way is key, and may requare a little tweaking vs one that needs a lot of tweaking.
