Give me your best arguments--who is your best? Marcus Allen is mine--you might say Barry Sanders at OK St., but the Big12 was sorry back then.

Jeff, can't argue with that--he was definitely the toughest! Would have been a great pro too, if not for u know what.

I was at a game his rookie season with the Browns. He did not get to play , but after the game he was CHUGGING the Beers on the bus after the game. This was back when fans could walk out onto the field and go to the locker rooms before and after the game. I wish those times would come back, my kid would give anything to get Marvin Harrison's autograph.

Yeah, I remember when I was little, and my dad took me into the tunnell to meet Deacon Jones in L.A. Back then you could actually access the players pretty easily--it's a shame the NFL has gone so corporate--I think i'll do a post on this subject and see what others think. Great input, Jeff.

The player that got me watching Pitt football Tony Dorsett. As for Griffin, you said college and two heismann's is pretty impressive.

You, know i was trippin--Dorsett was the best--he's my all-time favorite, college, or pro--don't know how I left him out. Still can't get on board with Archie, though. We are talking about college, but he was such a Mandarich-sized bust in the league, that could be have really been that good?

college and pro are two completely different games played by similar rules. just because one was an excellent college player doesn't mean that it will translate to the pro level (i.e. archie griffin), and sometimes it is the other way around as well. i don't see jim brown on your list. he is the greatest pro rb of all time, but i don't ever hear him being considered for the greatest college rb of all time (i know, he was technically listed as a fullback, but the responsibility of the position was a little bit different back then.) he was great in college, but not listed as the greatest. my point is, if your are going to ask about who is the greatest at this level or that level, their performance at any other level should not come in to play, it's insignificant. i think that your question steers more in the direction of who was the greatest at every level.
