Testors dull-coat again, mixed feelings.
 

I've heard so much about Testors dull-coat spray. I have heard it works great and is the best sealer out there. I have also to stay away from the junk. People say it runs the ink off the decals, and it also yellows the white paint. People also say that it works perfectly fine, know milky finish or yellowing. So I want you guys to be as detailed as possible. I will be detailed too.
Does Testors 1261 spray on dull coat...
Turn white to yellow?
Ruin Beenutt's or Reggie's decals?
Make your players look like milk duds?
Do anything else to your figures?


Information: Reggie's and SIW's figures.
Paints: Delta Ceramcoat, Testors enamel, Folkart, and Apple Barrel.

I want to know if you have used this product, YOURthoughts, other reviews, the questions above, and the instructions.
Also, I would like to know if I should go out and get this product, or leave it, it is junk.
Any other answers would be apprieciated.
I am not demanding answers, I am just stuck if I should get this, or if I should leave this.

Depending on the type of paint that you use, weather it be acrylic, enamel, water base etc. Once the sealant is applied the heat from the sealant will make some of those paints run and on other types of paint it works fine. Most likely though it will work on all of them with the right amount of time. Some paints might need more drying time when applying testers dull coat than some other decal sealers.

Now for me, I've never used testers dull coat so I can't say for sure but I just thought I'd mention this.

I can't answer your question about the Testors flat spray, but I can say that the delta ceramcoat FLAT varnish is a great look for the flat. I love the delta ceramcoat glosy, semi-gloss, and flat. It protects great and looks great too.

I recently put the flat on my figures and was planning on trying the testors flat spray, but after the brush on delta ceramcoat I felt there was no need to do the spray,

Ok I have used it and had mixed results
 

I painted a set of Eagles for someone that the spray did damage the decals but painted and sprayed other teams that nothing happened on. If you are set on using it then I have a simple solution that can help with all of your concerns - coat the men in mod podge first before you spray. the dull coat may not be quite as dull but your decals are protected and you still get a nice finish.

Krylon matte spray and Krylon gloss spray will not yellow or dissolve your decals--it's all I use.

I've been using Testors Dull Cote for several years now
on the teams I do for coaches and haven't had ANY problems
with it.Having said that,let me explain how I apply the product.
1st.< I seal the painted/decaled figure with a BRUSH- ON
clear coat.Delta is good;Model Master;There are several to
choose from.Someone mentioned ModgePodge.This is a great
sealer BUT after you apply it you will need to go over it with
another brush-on sealer like Delta,or MM,etc.The reason is
that Modge Podge will/does react to "heat" if not clear
coated.Atleast on these plastic figures.It becomes "sticky"
in the heat.Good sealer but has that draw-back.
Another good thing about brush-on sealer is that you get
all the nooks & crannys that spraying sometimes misses,
i.e. under the arms; between the legs;Hard to reach areas
for spray.
After you brush coat with your sealer of choice,then spray
with Teators Dull Cote.
1) Shake can real good. I think they reccommend 2 minutes
Also,while using ( spraying) shake the can occassionally.This
helps keep it mixed-up good.
2)Spray with even strokes from about 8-10 inches away.
Spray the front of your figures,then turn to the side and spray,
etc,etc,.Essentially turning the figures in a circle so that you
cover ALL sidea/angles.
If you have "bent-over" figures,say like a center or "O" linemen
prop them up so you can spray up under the bent-over part
that isn't showing ( chest area;neck front:)I use an old rookie
double-clip base with the prongs cut off and prop it up.Works
great.
3) Let the clear coat dry for recommended time on can.If you
want to,spray another coat on,but between the brush-on and the
one spray coat,you should be covered.

As I said,Ive been doing it this way for a few years now and
haven't had any problems.I think if you follow these guide lines
you'll be happy with the results.Maybe not.Try it and see and
let us know.
