I have to echo what Doug just wrote. It was so much fun to get on the field again and to work with so many coaches who had never experienced tournament play. It felt very refreshing and they were all great guys! I see a lot of future to this tournament!
For me it was one of the best weekends that Joe and I have experienced together. This was one of the first times that it was just me and him and it was a great father-son time! I think that this is the true essence of the hobby! Joe came in with a few pass plays and learned to run during the tourney winning his first game based on overall yards. I have never been more proud of him and the true sportsmanship and game play he exhibited! He came home wanting to play another game, but he was so tired that he couldn't keep his eyes open. Joe's and my teams were a combination of tweaked bases. 50% were tweaked by me using Miggle, Tudor, Buzzball and the new Prolines and they competed very well so I can feel good about my middlin' tweak skills.
There will be much more to come in a future Tweak article with more details.
Thanks to Geno and Flynt for hosting this event. I doubt that they came out on the ahead side of the finances, but what they gave to the rest of us was a great experience! Their commitment to making this happen will show itself in the future of MF in the Midwest and in new coaches who will enter the tourney circuit.
Finally, the winners of the skills competition were:
Fastest Man 3.3 and under - Doug Hendricks 2.52 grams #32 28 2/8" (Geno Tweaked) Flynt Hendricks was a close 2nd and 3rd
Strongest Man - Geno Hendricks 3.30 grams #63 13 2/8" Joe Schmidt came in 2nd with a first run proline tweaked by Vince Peatros
Kicking - Tyler Davis 130 score (possible highest score of 150) TDK
Passing - Flynt Hendricks 190 score TDQ
Strongest Man Enhanced - Geno Hendricks 3.47 grams #? 10 7/8"
