standards
I like the poker analogy offered above, on the old Miggle board I would use Billiards to make the same analogy. Like EF there is more than one way to play. In Billiards you have games for strict competition like 9-Ball, Straight Pool (14.1), 8-Ball, One Pocket, Banks, etc. Then you have novelty games for light competition, like Rotation, Cut-Throat, Cowboy (variation on old English Billiards), etc. Then for a radical change of pace there are billiard games designed for the pocketless table, like Caroms (straight-rail) Cushion Caroms, and Three-Cushion just to name a few. Then there is Snooker, as you can see the variations are extensive but all are fun to play, and there are common standards and rules that apply the same way in all the games, especially when addressing and striking the cue ball is concerned. I contend we need standards and common rules that apply in all forms of EF. For example, what exactly constitutes a tackle or engaged players or “in the box” when placing the TTQB on the field. How about a variation like Front of the base tackling, what is exactly is the front of the base. I would like to see a basic set of detailed rules that can be applied to different EF styles, like the hand-off/pitch rule (2 base length standard helmet to helmet (any Part) or base to base just name the standard convention. The NHFL rules along with the BuzzBall Tournament rules are well done and most of the details are explained and battle tested and when in use tournaments run smoothly. I would like to see an EF Rule book from Miggle with standards and details explained along with a list in the back of major tournament winners. The great thing about this hobby is when we get in the room to participate and support an event and no matter how well defined or not the rules may be we all get along and have a blast.
