... LONGHORNS, COUGARS MAKE ECFA HISTORY - SISTERS EVERYWERE TIRED OF BEING KISSED

Texas and BYU skated to a 10-10 tie in ECFA Week 2 today, as the Longhorns (0-1-1, 0-0-1 Western Conference) failed on a 45-yard field goal with 13 seconds left that doomed both teams to a draw and a date to kiss their sisters. The game was the first tie in ECFA history. There is no overtime in the ECFA or EPFA.

Both teams lacked a killer instinct, as they were able to move up and down the field at times on drives that sometimes were 10 plays or more, but bogged down the closer to the opposing goal line they got. The teams traded field goals in the second quarter, and neither team scored in the third quarter, leaving it 3-3 after 3.

After the Cougars (1-0-1, 0-0-1 Western) missed a 55-yard field goal to try and take the lead ealry in the period, Texas responded quickly. Following a Gilbert incompletion from the 45, he found Hales wide open on the left side, about 20 yards down field. Hales caught the pass and did the rest, racing past the BYU defense for the game's first touchdown, making it 10-3 Longhorns.

BYU got the ball at the 25 after the kickoff, and immediately took a 5-yard false start penalty. But it didn't faze the Cougars, as Peterson caught his first pass of the day for 33 yards and a first down. He caught another for 9, and then a pair of Nelson runs from the QB spot gained 7 yards. Nelson then hit Edwards for 27 to put the ball at the Texas 4. Ashworth, who had fumbled earlier in the game, had trusty hands this time, catching Nelson's 4-yard TD pass. BYU elected to take the tie with 5:00 left, and it was 10-10 after the extra point.

Texas wasn't done, however. Back to passes to Johnson out of the backfield yielded gains of 25 and 23 yards. Following an incompletion, the Longhorns tried an inside running play to gain a few more yards and set up the game-winning field goal, since they had 2 time outs left. Johnson was stuffed in the middle, but BYU was called for offsides. From the 28, Texas tried the field goal, but it failed.

BYU had one last play from its 35 with 13 seconds left, but a long pass to the right side fell harmlessly incomplete.
