These have indeed been interesting posts....There is A LOT of hypocracy in this hobby. As far as a solitaire "movement", solitaire has has been around for decades. No one invented it by putting it on the Internet. As a practical matter, EVERYTHING is on line now. Look how I-Tunes has changed the music industry, or how Facebook and Twitter have changed our society. So some form of EFL on line is just a natural progression. Nothing new here. If one person hadn't introduced an Internet format, someone esle would have.
Having played in both a league and solitaire I can see advantages and disadvantages to both. I honestly don't think that if ALL coaches played solitaire, even if each an Internet access, it would be of much value. I think the hobby's most redeeming value is the fellowship, and that's hard to experience over a computer screen. I miss just hanging out with men I call friends, but I don't miss a lot of the controversy, arguments, cheating, and child-like behavior that playing seems to bring out. Something about competition brings out the worst in people. But in a way some of the Trash talking a competition and yes, s&*#$ talking is what made it fun.
The way I see it, nothing worthwile comes easy; supporting a good league or even putting on a good tournament is hard. Every coach who participates has to decide for themselves wether or not its worth that sacrifice.
Clearly there is a place for both leagues and solitaire in our hobby.
BTW I too have a U-Stream account- The Spartan Network.
