Whoever designed this paid no attention to the relationship of the shapes. The shape of the stars does not relate to the shape of the football. The letters are poorly done. They don't relate to the shape that they are in. The shape of the shield is rounder at the bottom. The old letters work better because their roundness relates to this shape. If they had just straightened the bottom lines of the shield to a "V" shape on the new logo it would have looked 100 times better.
The football has merit but the rest is wack! I know design classes will be tearing this one apart. If I taught, this would definately be one of my assignments. This is where the computer age has gotten us. The computer is just a tool it cannot replace design principles/technique. You have a bunch of kids these days who think they are designers, because they can work the heck out of a computer but they lack design principles/technique and they turn out crap like this.
They would have done better if they had had a design contest. They could have created a media buzz and gotten an excellet logo for the cost of their prize.

i have the "pleasure" of working with these types of "designers" everyday. i totally agree, learn to use a t-square and triangle correctly before learning the computer. the font really throws it off whack for me.
