I've been doing this for many years in this style of play. I saw my friend Geno Hendricks so frustrated at the Shootout one year because everyone was stacking up on him to stop the run. Geno promptly went up stairs and hopped on line and blasted the Shootout.

I could see the frustration in Geno and I had told him, if you can't pass in this style, you will be frustrated! He knew what he was getting in to but he still wanted to play. When Geno came back down stairs, Pervis "Pep" Woods, DeWone McDaniel, and I took about 30-40 minutes and basically taught Geno how to pass.

Needless to say, Geno came back down in the elimination rounds and played his heart out. Things became easy for Geno as he went on to play in the Semifinal rounds of the Shootout. He beat some great coaches along the way. After it ended, Geno pulled me to the side and apologized for writing what he did. Geno's a great competitor but he had not planned to be stopped in the running game. Once he became comfortable in the passing game, he never complained about stacking in any manner.

Today, Geno's one of the great passers in the Big 12. He practices tirelessly to compete. With his ability to run the ball and use play-action passing, he is a cinch to compete in the CBSMF playoffs. This is from a guy who wanted "crutches" put in place to help the run.

Geno was one game away from competing for the 2007 Championship this year and is one of the well-respected players in the country. But when he originally competed under the Shootout system, we knew he could not pass. So like any great defensive mind, you stack it up to stop the run. If he has game, he can still beat you in the air.

Dink and dunks are fine but can you make a 40 yard pass on a rope when it counts the most? That will be required when yall play in the CBSMF. Just my opinion.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

#1 Here is a copy and paste of what I posted on Miggle about my frustrations in 2006 TSO

I will tell you all that this style of play is well.......frustrating for a newbie I am sweating and feel VERY.........rushed......I am having a hard time adjusting.Prelimanary rounds are about a third over and I am setting at 0-4.I have had almost everyone tell me that I have the strongest bases here BUT........there is alot for me to learn about these rules and style of play before I can start to be competitive. Listen to me when Reggie tells you that it is different playing the Texas Shootout rules he means IT IS DIFFERENT.The preliminary rounds only set the bracket for the tournament. So I hope I can learn more in these upcoming games. And then appy it in the Tournament.

more info coming later.

#2 You, PEP, and Dewoyne only told me the importance of a Pass game.
I taught myself AFTER that tournament through hours of practice.

#3 You and I talked and YOU thought the post was negative I did not think it was negative only TRUTHFULL.

#4. As for the rest of the post...thanks for the compliments.

#5. Lets keep it real.
