QUESTION ABOUT OFFENSIVE LINES
What is the benefit in having multiple offensive lines from a strategic standpoint.
Andre, different lines have different functionalities. While the end result is to matriculate the ball down the field to paydirt, various lines can definitely add wrinkles that the average coach would not be willing to deal with.
On my team, I have 3 different O-line fronts. One line is a zone blocking, which allow for a more versatile approach on the game. This line has ability to be both a great rushing line and passing line. Some people feel that figures are not important but I submit to you, the makeup of the figure is important. The range of arm motion for this line is of the utmost importance because it may be the difference between a sack and a touchdown pass. Howver, this type of line is a very effective run-blocking line as well.
If you go from the Shootout Rule system, this line is great because you can hide so many things, whether it is a run or pass.
On the run-blocking line, it can be used to bait teams into thinking you are gonna use "Power Ball" on every play. This line is used for straight on blocking schemes and can be used as a play action line.
The benefits of various line is the versatility and "art of deception". It makes the defense think one thing is coming at them but something totally of the beaten trail could happen.
1) does it keep the defense off balalnce ?
Absolutely! If you can pass, it can really keep the Defense off balance because he has no clue of what's ready to hit him.
2) can you hide pulling guards ? I have several plays that I run where the QB rolls left. The LG pulls around left end. The LT blocks and the C blocks towards the left to create the double team. The Guard pulls around end as an escort for the QB who is rolling around that end to either pass or run. But yes, the LG does pull and makes an impact on the play.
