Growing Pains For Everyone
A coach has the ball, no timeouts for either coach remaining. The winning coach has the ball with 50 seconds left on the clock, what must he do to run the clock down or(take a knee) to end the game?
At the end of each play, in the last 2 minutes of the game, the 35/45 second clocks start automatically plus game clock. If you are losing, you may want to hurry up and set up your players because at that point, the clock would automatically stop. The defensive team would still have it's 45 seconds to set up. At that point though, the offensive team can not make any adjustments and the play has to be ran as is. This simulates a offensive team getting to the ball and spiking it to save time.
But if you are the team leading, you have the right to set your players up SLOWLY within the 35/45 second clock and just let the regulation clock run. Theoretically, you should be at 50-35 seconds when the play is ran. At this point, offensive coach designates who has the ball. Ball carrier runs the ball and tackled. If he is tackled out of bounds, the clock is automatically stopped. This would give you 15 seconds once the play is ran. It usually takes about 3-4 seconds on a running play. Stats are recorded and at that point, clock continues to run until it expires.
Always remember, "The Box" can be shaken by either defense or offense afger every play. That may be your only hope of getting a turnover at that point.
In the last 2 minutes, there is no wait on the center to be put down. This is the time of urgency and after the player is tackled, the 35/45 and game clock should start SIMULTANEOUSLY!
The only time a clock stops in the last 2 minutes is on an injury, penalty, fumble (change of possession), change of possession, challenged call, incompleted pass or ball carrier goes out of bounds.
This may need to be moved to the RULES section under Shootout Rules.
