Phil, I hadn't thought about a MVP award yet, but I like the idea. So far I'd have to say that the Bible Thumper, Billy Bob Weisser has the most impressive resume so far, but the season isn't over. Defensively, Norm Nest had been a monster in the Bees secondary, and also deserves some consideration. At any rate, here's the summeries for 'week' 6.....

Flaming Fairies 35 - Third Reich 29

The Fairies overcame two turnovers and untimely penalties, and finally got their running game untracked to prevail, 35 - 29. Wilhelm Klink had a stellar day, completing 12-17-0 for 158 yards and 2 TD’s for the Reich, but it couldn’t keep them from losing their 6th straight game. Chants of “Munich Lions” could be heard near the end of the game from the fans, an obvious reference to the Detroit Lions winless season last year.

Manfred Mann’s interception set up Munich in Fairy territory, and Gunther Huber caught a 13 yard TD pass to put the Third Reich up 7-0 at the end of one. The Fairies came back on Gene Simmons 85 yard TD reception. The Reich marched back and scored on Richard Meier’s29 yard reception. Simmons’ 49 yard TD reception tied the game at 14 all for the half.

In the third quarter, James Leach ran 11 yards to put San Francisco up 21-14 going into the fourth quarter. Johnny Holmes burst open with a 84 yard TD run to make it 28-14. The Reich came back with a furious rally, and Huber’s second TD catch of the day trimmed the score to 28-21. The Reich recovered the on-sides kick, and Fritz Mueller’s 1 yard plunge brought them to within one point. The Reich decided to go for a win instead of playing for a tie, and converted the 2 point play to put them in front 29-28 with little time left. Tommy Cruise calmly led his team down the field, and Holmes’ second TD of the day made the final score 35-29.

Holmes had a career best 195 yards rushing and 2 TD’s for the Fairies, while Richard Meier ran for 105 yards, and caught 4 passes for 69 yards and 2 TD’s for Munich. Derrick Danker had 4 tackles for the Reich, while Barney Frank and Ron Simmons had 5 tackles each for San Francisco.
