Battlin' Bozos 23 - Mennonites 21
The game was a first for the WMLMF, as Tim Young, from the Hoosier Heartland league, stepped in to coach the Mennonites, while Al Dunham took over coaching duties for the Battlin’ Bozos. Both teams fought tooth and nail, and in the end it was the clowns who stood victorious in a thrilling game that came down to the last play.
5 ½ got the first score of the game on a picture perfect 37 yard run around the left end that literally brought the lights down. In his excitement, Rav Al tossed his arms into the air, where he inadvertently hit the florescent light that was hanging down which shattered glass all over the floor. The game was temporarily halted until a new bulb was installed and the ground was cleaned up.
The Amish guys came right back and scored on Speedy Ezekiel’s 13 yard run to tie the game. The Bozos got a great kick return, and 2 Cents’ 28 yard scamper put the clowns back in front, 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a defensive stand off, and Bernie’s 60 yard field goal at the end of the half made the score 17 - 7 Battle Creek.
Billy Bob Weisser guided the Mennonites on a nice 61 yard, 12 play drive that culminated in a 26 yard TD run by Luthar Lamp that made the score 17-14 going into the final quarter. Once again, the Amish team drove the field, and Speedy’s second TD of the day put the Mennonites on top, 21-17. The Bozos battled back, and 2 Cents scored from 13 out. The clowns went for the 2 point conversion, but failed, to make the score 23-21. The Mennonites got a terrific kick return to the Bozo 43. Three straight pass attempts got no yardage, and Mathew Martin’s 60 yard field goal attempt was high enough, but not long enough as the clowns held on to win their second game of the year.
Speedy rushed for 100 yards and 2 TD’s, while the Bozos were led by 2 Cents’ 74 yards and 2 TD’s. Defensively, the clowns were led by Plus and Greaterthanfour with 6 tackles each. The MFCA’s own Lynn Weirdwolf Schmidt came up with 4 tackles for the Mennonites.
I want to personally thank my good friend Tim for his outstanding job of coaching and helping me out with my solitaire season. It was a great game and a lot of fun, broken light notwithstanding.
AM and -6 put pressure on Billy Bob Weisser
