A podcast is basically an audio file (or a video file in case of videocast) you can download and read with your mp3 player (like an Ipod, for example...it's why we speak about
podcast).
These files are often available by RSS flux (what is an RSS flux ? it's quite the same as a newsletter with richmedia content (audio, video, text)) you can suscribe, then you receive the news in a RSS player or modern email client (what is an email client ? well...
)).
podcast file content : often similar to a radio show (or tv show) content. Then, you can listen it on your computer, or your mp3 player. Since modern mp3 players are also video players, the podcasting is evolving to video these days.
In one word, podcast is a recorded media content you can download. It's diferent than live streaming where you can see or heard in direct live some media content (ustream, web radios, etc...).
