Default The Old AFL Rules

First off, I hate having to call it the Old AFL just to define it from Arena ball. I just got my new edition of the Complete Chiefs History from NFL Films and stayed up till 1:00 last night watching it. I'm still not done but what I have seen so far has made me very happy. It has a great deal of new footage that I had not seen clear back to the Dallas Texan era and includes just about every piece that NFL Films ever did on the Chiefs.

Man, if you are a youngster and have no memory of THE AFL you would do your self a favor to go back and look at any footage you can find. You will see perfect tackling like you have never seen in the modern era, hits that are now illegal, MUD, BLOOD and the best uni's ever. I really miss that brand of football. Looking at the old footage makes it increasingly hard for me to watch modern era football. Maybe, I am just being nostalgic but that was FOOTBALL!

My dad took me to see my first pro football game back in '66 or '67. We went to the Oakland Colliseum and watched the Chiefs and Raiders. I remember the Chiefs had #1 Noland Smith returning kicks. I was in awe of his ability to return them considering how small he was on the field. I was rooting for the Chiefs but I believe the Raiders prevailed. Yep, those were the days. Gas was 25 cents a gallon, a hamburger from McDonalds was 20 cents and girls wore mini-skirts. Makes you wonder why things have to always change...
